Scottie is definititely a Top 50 player, and a HOFer.
But he is a guy who would not have accomplished much of what he did without MJ. He owes a lot to MJ, as do a lot of players who made a lot of money in the NBA by playing with MJ.
If Scottie had stayed with the Seattle Supersonics (the team that drafted him), I wonder if we would be celebrating Olden Polynice's induction into the HOF?

Yeah, because the Media was exactly the same back then. You didn't hear about Babe Ruth being a alcoholic womanizer either. I know stories about some of the greats in the 80's that are as bad as that, but everyone is human. The holier than thou routine many maintain on here is unbelievable. Don't tell me you never in your career have slacked off at work when your colleagues needed you, or got upset you got passed up for a promotion and coasted for a couple of days. I'm very early in my career and I've done both those things, and don't tell me it's because I'm slacker either (I work between 55-65 hours a week), I'm just honest.

He sat a few seconds of a 40 minute game of which he played literally thousands. I'm sorry, I'm a realist, people make mistakes and do stupid things, it doesn't negate everything they've done. Over the course of his career if thats the worst that happened, it's nothing. It's far less selfish than when people hold out or demand trades.

Just being Devil's Advocate here, but Phil Jackson bulit up Scottie the WHOLE year saying "You're the man, you're number #1. This team depends on you, without you, we're nothing." aaaaand I think Scottie, ever the second banana, loved that he was THE guy for once. And when the team was down 0-2 to the best team in the East in the semifinals of the playoffs, Phil draws up the last play, and Scottie isn't taking the last shot. That HAD to be the biggest slap in the face he's ever suffered.

but still, that is a valid argument, but Kareem sucker punched Kent Benson in the back, dropped him to the ground and sparked a fight that almost killed Rudy Tomjanovich. That doesn't change anyone's mind on his ability!

Judging someone by their worst moment is something everyone seems to do, but that doesn't make it right.

Over the course of his career if thats the worst that happened, it's nothing. It's far less selfish than when people hold out or demand trades.

He didn't just sit, he refused to play the most important 40 seconds of the game. That's the worst thing you can do to your teammates in a game.

I hope this thread ends eventually. My only point of bringing it up 4 months after the the single original post, that no one replied to then, was to post some good videos, and I'm feeling bad for doing so.

Scottie Pippen's teammates and opposing players had nothing but good things to say about him. They all said he was a great teammate, I'll take their word for it. Pippen was a great player and teammate, I no longer care about that moment.

Don't remember questioning his ability. My only point is that someone who refuses to play because he wasn't supposed to take hopefully the winning shot shouldn't have a statue in his honor. Glad Toni K made the shot. Not saying he didn't have the talent to be in the HOF, but I just lost respect for him when he pulled that stunt.

See that is the thing Kill, he refused to go back into a PLAYOFF game because he was not drawn up as the guy getting to take the shot. It wasnt a game in December it was a freaking playoff game. But regardless of when it was the bottom line to me, the worst thing a guy can do is QUIT on his teammates.

That night in a HUGE PLAYOFF game v the Knicks he quit on his team. Pippen was an awesome player but he again quit on his teammates. That should never been just glossed over because it was one issolated thing.

And btw it was not the first time he had "quit" on this Chicago teammates. His "migraines" allowed him to quit in the Detroit playoff series in the late 80's.

He was an extremely talented player but he was VERY soft in his first few years. But Ill forgive the softness, I guess, but the quiting on his team well that should never be forgotten when he is spoken about.
