Senderoff Named Coach at KSU

That's probably not good news for BU having a chance to land Evans or Brewer.... but with this finalized I would think the assistant coaching jobs here will be filled soon.

Staff stays at KSU with Senderoff with one exception. Rumor that Director of Basketball Operations, Jaden Uken, will follow Geno.

Uken viewed as talented young coach.

Evans expected to keep his KSU commitment.

Actually, though Senderoff did work under Geno for the 3 seasons Geno was head coach, he was on the Kent State coaching staff long before Geno was.

Geno Ford at Kent State: 2007-2008 as an assistant and 2008-2011 as head coach.
Rob Senderoff at Kent State: 2002-2006 as an assistant, then at Indiana U from 2006-2008, then back at Kent State as Associate HC 2008-2011

Ok, so he wasn't part of GF's Coaching tree, can he at least be a GF twig? ;-)

Thanks for the note on Uken and Evans. With most of the staff being retained at KSU, and so much returning from this year's league champ, it makes sense that Evans will keep his commitment. Looks like thing will keep on rollin' for the Golden Flashes. Best of luck next year!

If I were (hypothetically) placing bets, I??™d put (hypothetical) money on Armon Gates joining Geno??™s staff.

Armon is from Chicago ( Rich South) and has pulled some terrific recruits for the Flashes out of the Windy City. IMO, Geno will really need his help if the Braves expect to recruit out of Chicagoland.

Armon was a great player for the Flashes, on the staff of Western Kentucky when they made their Sweet 16 run, and came back to Kent for a few seasons. He??™s now with one of our former coaches at TCU. He??™s a great guy, smart, and seems to relate well to players without being too much of a ???buddy.??? He was able to put his arms around a few guys at Kent with a bit of an attitude and make remarkable progress. Fans will love him.

I??™ll give you GF ???twin.??? Geno was hired to replace Rob when Rob made the mistake of taking the Indiana job. When things in Bloomington blew up, Geno (and others) went to bat for Rob to give him his old associate head coach job back even with a show cause. Surprisingly, our AD loved Rob so it wasn??™t much of a sale. The players have been quoted that Rob did 40% of the HC job last year, which is why they so strongly wanted him.

Take Brewer off the board, too. He and Evans are both keeping their commitments.

It sounds like the top assistant job is going to go to Greg Graham, formerly of Boise St. With Uken and Willie Scott, that leaves us with one open spot. Do you think Gates would come on in a role that wasn't a top assistant role?

I don??™t know what Geno could offer Armon to entice him to Peoria.

At the end of the day, Bradley does not have a bad choice between Gates and Uken. But between the two, I??™d take Gates over Uken. Although Uken is very, very good with an excellent small college resume before Kent, he??™s been DBO. Hard to evaluate his game strategy and game management skills based on his time at KSU. Not sure he played college ball at Nebraska. For me, Gates has proven he can play D1 ball, recruit and coach. If I wanted to recruit Chicagoland, I??™d definitely take Gates.

Now if you could get both, that would be very good.

Thanks. It's unclear in the article whether Uken is going to be the DBO or an assistant, which was kind of the basis of my inquiry. In my perfect world I would take them both and slot in Uken as the DBO, but I have no idea what their plan is.

A lesson on how fast the fans can turn on you.....from fans Geno knows well - Kent State
I saw a couple comments by Kent State fans who are growing ever so impatient...and not happy...

They were VERY happy with the state the program was in and also very happy Rob Senderoff took over for Geno (although there was some dissatisfaction over Geno leaving Kent State)..

Then Kent State won 8 or their first 9 and were on a roll...and their optimism was growing...well inside the Top 50 RPI...
Then ..they hit the skids...losing 5 in the past month -- including bad losses to Texas Arlington, Utah State....and a blowout loss to instate rival Ohio....and now starting their conference season 2-3....
also - now with RPI 106 & SOS almost 200 their at large chances are gone and they gotta win their way into the post-season...
There have been a few boos and some fans are grumbling and getting impatient -- wonder how those fans would feel if they had won only one of the past 12 games and several were blowouts...
