Shumpert trims the Illini--down to 5 schools

Wow.......way to go IS! :-o Just having the chance to land a 5 star recruit is very exciting and other than NC.....I feel good about the Braves chances! :D

The author, Taylor Bell, is possibly the most reliable and most established reporter of high school sports in the Chicago area for almost 40 years. So I am sure he did talk to Shumpert before writing that.
Maybe he's just keeping Bradley on his list out of loyalty and as a courtesy to Jim Les, but if he does visit in August as he says he plans, that would suggest he is still seriously considering BU.

It would be interesting to know if any schools have used "creative" ways to woo students and student-athletes to the University :? I don't even know if this is allowed for student-athletes.

I thought it would be quite interesting if BradleyFans.com could come up with an interesting and legal way to help get this kid. Maybe a "controlled" letter writing campaign to the kid by 10-20 alumni stating why we chose Bradley, our fondest memories, and how a Bradley degree has benefited us in life. The letters could be coordinated by someone (Tornado or Da Coach?) to be mailed daily leading up to Shumpert's BU visit.

Just a thought.......as ridiculous as it may be

This maybe isn't such a good idea. Recall that when Kentucky was recruiting a 5-star kid named Patrick Patterson back in the summer of 2006, many Kentucky fans went to his MySpace page and left messages telling how much he was wanted at Kentucky, and how he should attend there. Kentucky checked with the NCAA and concluded these were all recruiting violations, and they reported themselves to the NCAA. There was never any action taken, but UK asked their fans to stop doing this.

Patterson did eventually commit to Kentucky, but he waited until 2 months ago.

Totally disagree... JL and crew have gotten this far, with respect to Mr Shumpert and our staff, let's not get in their way.

Absolutely!

Does anyone truly believe that Bradley has a chance? It would be one of the biggest singings in the history of Bradley basketball right up there with Chet. Interesting turn is Shumpert goes to Illinois and maybe there isnt a ride for Roth. I would rather have Shumpert but it would be the close of the century by Jim. There is always hope....

Since we've come this far, I think we have a chance. Shumpert's been seen at a Bradley game previously, right? So, he's been to Peoria and seen a game and probably the school in some unofficial visit.

So far, he's not kicked us off the list based on what he's seen. I think really what will be the deciding factor then has got to be how Shumpert sees Coach Les, the rest of the staff, and the players after he speaks with them during his official visit.

JL sang at a Cubs game...................so that's at least one "singing"

Obviously, teh way teh kid has blown up- we are fortunate to still be on the list. UNC is hard to say no to, and certainly he would get notoriety there, but he has said that he wants a good eductaion and degree and that he wants a chance to work at being a pro.

Certainly he can do that at UNC- but Bradley's head coach did that as a 5'11 white kid and BU has had a share of pro players recently- both here and overseas...

AP and POB- Granger has BU ties, not to mention all teh overseas action.

I liek this kid and think he is a straight shooter... And I think Mike Radigan's suggestion that it may be us or Marquette may be right on the mark...

Right now there are no signings for next season yet....only a verbal from Daniel West(who we hope follows thru with his verbal......see memphis) and the rest are up for grabs with an extra ride from ray smokie brown's departure giving the staff one more for next year!

Take it easy on me guys, I am just a poor boy without the advantage of Bradley education!!! SIGNING.......is that better?

It was worth him getting it down to five just to read the Illini board........

Mexicobufan singing off.....

Since we're still in I can only think he's seriuos about us. Honestly, it feels great to have a recruit like this interested in Bradley... but said it before, with the way he's carried himself in the media I really like him, and wish him very well no matter where he ends up...

That said, hehhe, GO BRAVES, I really really really hope he decides to come to BU.

I formed my opinion because Clemson and Georgia Tech while nice schools are just not special enough and are too far away. Of course North Carolina is special, but it is a johnnie-come-lately and playing time may be an issue. That leaves BU and Marquette. The two are similar schools within driving distance for friends and family. Milwaukee probably has more to offer than Peoria so it has a slight edge there. I???‚¬?„?m hoping that BU has a slight advantage in the style of ball and in our coaching staff. It???‚¬?„?s up to JL to sell that. Hopefully Bradley comes out on top. The kid seems to be a quality individual in addition to being a great player. He will have all the chances in the world at BU for his talent to take him to the next level.
