Sikes commits to Cincinnati

Unfortunately, O&B, I just heard from Visman's coach at Yuba, and he is not a possibility, either.

B.J. would definitely help Bradley, but he wants to stay close to his home for family reasons. He is looking at going to UC-Davis to play. UC-Davis is in the rather weak Big West Conference.

Big West-
Cal Poly
CSUF
CSUN
Idaho
LB State
Pacific
UC Davis
UC Irvine
UC Riverside
UCSB
Utah State

Sikes would have been a difference maker at BU. I hope he enjoys his limited role at Cincy. :?

I suspect BJ Visman, another Yuba JC player, is back on the BU radar now.

Yeah, what a dummy Sikes is! Are some of these so-called stars so embarrassed that they would rather be a bench player on a Big East team rather than an immediate star on a (ewwwww!) Valley team?! Apparently they are. I guess four teams in the tourney and two in the Sweet Sixteen are still not enough to rid the Valley of their "second-tier" status!

Well, that's a better excuse than Sikes.

Btw, Utah State is now in the WAC, I believe.

I don't think it hurts that BU is "aiming high" and missing out.
I think there are recruiting targets BU can still get, but I appreciate that they are going after the higher tier targets that most MVC schools don't even make phone calls to.

We are right where we were EXACTLY a year ago, when BU mnissed out on a couple of big name kids, then signed Will Franklin.
Guess what people said at that time...

Some people ripped on Jim Les for whatever he might have done that caused Rembert & Stemler to leave.
People wanted Jim Les to go after Brandon Lee (seriously!) or Tyrone Kent (who barely made an impact at Toledo-3ppg) or Blake Mishler
Some were nervous and saw us as a .500 team in 2005-2006
Some thought we missed the boat by getting Franklin and letting Keoni Watson slip away. By the way, Watson went to Idaho where he has since quit.

Read some of these old links, and now that we are a sweet 16 team, some of those worries are funny.

Great post chitown! I think we will be okay for next year, maybe NIT bound, but still not as bad as some are making it out to be.

AND, it is still not 100% sure that POB will be leaving. He has not signed with an agent yet, so who knows. The camp will be the determining factor.

Correct. That list of Big West schools was from an old website. Utah State, Idaho, and UC-Davis have all left the conference.
UC-Davis is now an independent.

This is all that's left of the Big West--
Pacific
UC Irvine
Long Beach State
Cal Poly
UC Santa Barbara
CS Fullerton
CS Northridge
UC Riverside

"Sikes Talks About Cincy Commitment"

He is complimentary of Bradley and Coach Les. Here are some quotes from Marcus Sikes--

Marcus Sikes said on Tuesday night that it wasn't easy to pick from among his final three choices, but the 6-7, 245 pound power forward from Mt. San Jacinto College in California admitted that he felt a little something different on his recent trip to Cincinnati.
As a result, the former University of Georgia recruit has signed with the Bearcats, picking Cincinnati over Minnesota and Bradley.

"I enjoyed myself at all three schools and all of them have great coaches," Sikes reflected late Tuesday night. "I just felt comfortable at Cincinnati, because I can relate to the coach and he can relate to me as a player."

Sikes visited Bradley from Apr. 7-9, then piggy backed official trips to Cincinnati (Apr. 20-21) and Minnesota (Apr. 22-23) late last week.

"I got a good vibe and feel when I was at Cincinnati," he added. "I think I can step in early and produce there."

Sikes could face some competition in the front court in the form of 6-6 John Williamson of Cincinnati State C.C., who also inked with the Bearcats this spring. While some project Williamson as a three, the fact is that he is most effective in the low box area.

"He is coming in there just like me, and he will have to go out there and compete for minutes," Sikes said

Cincinnati still has 3 scholarships left even after signing Marcus Sikes, Deonta Vaughn, Marvin Gentry, John Williamson, and Jamual Warren.

This weekend they are hosting 6'10" Phil Jones, a Rivals Top 150 PF out of Laurinburg Prep.
If this kid goes to Cincy, I'd have to believe it will hurt sikes' chances even more.

Hopefully this situation ends up like the Rodney Hannah situation a few years ago. We wanted Hannah, and he opted for Houston. We ended up with a guy named Lawrence Wright, who averaged double-digits both of his years on the Hilltop. Hannah didn't even make it a whole season for Houston.

IMO, it just doesn't make sense for him to go to Cincinnati, and this must be a credit to the salesmanship of Mick Cronin.

They earlier signed a much higher rated juco power forward John Williamson, who plays the exact same kind of game as Sikes.
http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=8&c=1&nid=2245565

They also have a juco All American Cedric McGowan (former teammate of Will Franklin) who started 29 of 30 games as a power forward for Cincinnati last season (the only game he didn't start was senior day when he relinquished he starting position). He plays the same position as Sikes and Williamson, too.
And they have another returning power forward type, 6'9", 225 lb. Ronald Allen, a transfer from Xavier of New Orleans who was their top sub at the forward position last year.
So good luck Marcus. You are joining a rebuilding team (they lost their coach and their top 5 scorers), in the Big East, where Cincinnati finished 8-8 (8th place) last year, and will not be projected to be any higher this year. And yet, they appear to have 2 returning seniors and another highly rated recruit playing the same position in front of Sikes. I hope they find playing time for him.

Former Bradley recruit Marcus Sikes' shunned Bradley, where he would have been a starter immediately, and committed to Cincinnati. Cincinnati, as noted above, is loaded with forwards who play a similar game as Sikes, and who are higher rated.

Well, Sikes' position as a likely career backup at Cincinnati just became even more solid. In addition to the players who Cincinnati has returning, and the other incoming recruits who are rated higher than Sikes, Cincy just got a committment from Mike Williams, a 6'7" power forward transfer from Texas. Williams will have to sit out a year, then will have 2 years of eligibility left. He was a high school McDonald's All American and was the #18 rated player coming out of high school. He didn't play much at Texas because of their loaded lineup, but will likely move ahead of Sikes when he becomes eligible.

BB-
Not to be picky because its besides the point but Hannah did make it the whole season and is back there playing football and posibly basketball this year at Houston. He is getting looks at possibly a top 3-4 round pick in the NFL draft next year as a tight end/receiver.
6'7 1/2 and 260 with 4.56 speed and a 35+ verticle doesnt hurt in the combine.
But Im glad Boogie ended up at Bradley.
Keep an eye on Demetrius Young- a boogie like 6'6 athlete who is a better rebounder than boogie. Would love to go to Bradley and yes coach Les knows about him.

The frontcourt at Cincinnati just got even more crowded. Coach Mick Cronin just won another recruiting battle for the services of junior college stud Hernol Hall. Hall is rated as the #4 juco player, and #2 center.--

Glad to see they are stockpiling the talent. Our win against them at RA this year will look good for our resume' in March!!!!

:D

Not being an ISU fan, I suspect you'll think I am kidding with this statement....but

In reality I seriously hope you guys do beat them this year, with their starters on the floor for the full 40 minutes.
It will help you, the entire Valley, and it might just send a message to all those kids who signed with Cincy that they should have maybe considered one of their Valley scholarship offers more seriously.

Hope they play on a day/night when BU isn't playing, so I can go to the game. That should be fun to watch!

I don't think you are kidding at all. Tornado, I respect you as a good Bradley fan and a smart basketball fan with knowledge. I see no reason why you WOULDN'T root for ISU in a non-con home game against a school from the elitist BCS. Much like I was pulling for BU in the NCAA's, I'm sure you'd root for the Redbirds against Cincy. You know a win for ISU helps the Valley.

I agree, too, I hope they are at full strength when we play them. I don't know if we'll win or not, but I think we have a fair chance. If we do get the "W" I want them to be at full strength when it happens, then I hope they go on to win the Big East outright.

If the 'Birds can win the game, the entire Valley would benefit from it. I hope the boys can make it happen. I will be there in the lower bowl next to the Student Section, cheering as loud as I can and hoping for a win.

Are there plans for the game to be televised on a network?

I don't know, but I doubt it. We had such a bad year last year so I doubt it would be on any type of TV other than MAYBE WMBD or maybe the Fox channel. I doubt it though.

I wouldn't even expect a Comcast or FoxSports Midwest to carry it.

Road trip!

Hope they play on a day/night when BU isn't playing, so I can go to the game.

As long as you guys cheer for the home team!!!! I would expect a good crowd for that game. It will be around the 1st week of December so students will be there. Should be well-attended.
