I trust our staff is preparing the team to face SIU (or UIC), rather than looking past them. My sincere hope is our guys will also find the mental toughness to take this game as if it could be our last.

Both SIU and UIC are capable. SIU will definitely come FIRED UP.

Beat the first team first, men.

This staff has won this tournament twice and have coached in plenty of them. They know you can’t look past anyone in this tournament. It’s always one game at a time.

Kind of strange territory for the Braves, as they've not been a 3-seed in Arch Madness in this millenium - not even sure in the history of Arch Madness.
Can't recall a BU NIGHT game in St. Louis that was NOT a play-in game, and not the Championship game (when they used to be played on Mon. night on ESPN).

I have been to this Tour. so many times and I do not recall us ever playing the last game Fri. night even going back to the Checker Dome days.

On the Arch Madness website they only go as far back as 2006 and this is the first time we'll play in the Friday night 8:30 game during that period. 4 out of 5 years we had the Thursday night 8:30 slot. Half the time we've been in the 2:30 Friday game.

In Jim Les' first season, the Braves were the 6th seed and played in the late game. This was the time period when SIU & Creighton had a good rivalry going.

Yes. I recall playing in the 8:30 game against Wichita State. The game where James Gillingham was knocked out and concussed.

That was a bad memory you just provoked.... :)
Wichita State was the better team, but any chance Bradley had was gone when Gillingham got hit in the head on a possession early in the game, came out and didn't return. Phillip Gilbert didn't shoot well, but Marcello Robinson, who was not usually a big scorer (averaged 7.8 ppg that season) played the best game of his Bradley career. He scored 27 points and was 7-11 from three to almost single-handedly keep Bradley in contention. But Wichita won 70-66.
Here is a box score showing James Gillingham playing only 1 minute- https://basketball.realgm.com/ncaa/boxscore/2003-03-08/Bradley-at-Wichita-State/1390

Yeah, that was horrible. I don’t believe he was conscious when they took him off the floor.

Terrible night. I recall Chris Mroz getting the bulk of his minutes.

I remember going to dinner after the game and wondering if James would die or be permanently injured and have skull fractures. He basically got his head driven fully into the hardwood by a man’s knee. It was not pretty.

And who was there in 2006 to see an SIU cheerleader fall backward from around 12-14 feet into the air and land directly on the back of her head w/o a pad and without anyone catching her? That was disturbing too, but she came to in the arena.

Yes that was scary that night. I thought he had died. I was there when the cheerleader fell too. That was nuts.
