Surprised a thread hasn't been made yet, and if it has, it's probably old enough that it would be stupid for me to bump...

Anyway, this match-up definitely shows how undersized SIU is. Although the Salukis and Illini had a high FG percentage early on, it's all been a matter of defense (or lack thereof) from SIU.

And even if SIU somehow upsets Illinois, both teams ultimately have to do well in order for the game to make a difference when it comes Selection Sunday.
 
Their defense is poor, and Fay has never met a shot he didn't like. The Cleveland guy has been schooled several times by the IL guards. Every time he looks to see if he has defensive help, the IL guard cuts the other way - layup.

I didn't think the defense was that bad. Illinois is not a team to judge defense on. The UI will run a lot of teams to death. What worries me is how BU is going to stop Fay & Teague. We better hope that Fay keeps shooting 3s; because BU will have no answer for SIU if they go inside. If SIU plays the same defense against us that they played against UI, we will struggle.

another team where all that size and bulk in the middle is wasted if the guards are just launching wild fade-away shots from 30 feet.
As a team they took 64 shots for 63 points scored..

The way to stop Fay will be to get him into foul trouble.
 
Well it's not a good feeling as I watched them getting beat by thirty points most of the game, but all I could think is SIU looks more talented than us. Their defense was pretty bad. I hope ours will help us this year but that remains to be seen. They looked athletic, and some of them shot pretty well also. I expected them to be bad, The score sounds bad. I thought they looked pretty good.
