SIU's Anthony Booker transfers to Iowa State

Quick, twist minor incidents to sound as bad as possible...

I will have to claim ignorance on the Clancy incidents as that is before my time closely following BU. But DRuff (who by the way, I do disdain) did not really do anything wrong, let alone commit a crime; POB (and WF, I believe) did inadvertently receive and extra paycheck from a company they were legally employed by; To say TB sought out a person at his place of work is a frigging joke. That 'place of work' is central to campus and TB spent an upwards of 25 hours a week practicing there, and by all means, I would have punch the dude too knowing the details of the incident. And yes, two players did blow below .08's but because they were under 21 they got tickets. Underage drinking? I'm sure you don't know anyone/didn't partake in that?

Dogs, trying to portray these incidents as anywhere near bad is preposterous. Plain and simple, BU runs one of the cleanest and strictest programs around. Want JL fired for not winning a championship, say the sweet 16 was a fluke, and say we should have hired someone else, but don't try to make it sound like he doesn't have good control of his players. I know you're trying to be the voice of moderateness here, and I normally applaud that, and I don't think tornado's shot at Booker's twitter was necessary, but it frustrates me when people try to act like BU isn't arguably the cleanest program in the MVC (that's competitive).

I do agree with your point that we shouldn't throw stones, I don't think it it's a good idea, but I do guarantee that if we were to never have said a bad thing about ILSU, SIU, Wichita, etc. that those boards and Valley talk would be all over us.

I didn't know about the Clancy deal either, but Dogs must know something or he wouldn't have posted it, just lke you know what happened in the TB punching incident. From what I know the other person had just as much right to be where he was as TB did. He's on a bb scholarship and has to be above that foolishness. As for others drinking underage, it doesn't mean players on scholarships should think they have the right to. When our players screw up, admit it. Bradley and coach Les does a good job dishing out punishment but the players have to take some responsibility also.

Hmmm...Booker was unable to score in the post against Valley bigs, so he thinks somehow things will get easier in the Big 12?? And he blames "style of play"?

I have seen him play no fewer than 10 times and I don't think I have ever seen him score on anything more than a putback. He defense footwork leaves something to be desired as well. Yet another example of someone aiming way too high.

Iowa State is badly in need of bigs, but I can't imagine Booker being any more than a 10mpg backup.

Booker definitely has the talent, athleticism, and natural ability. Sometime schools just don't fit players and when they find something their style they can flourish, even at a higher level.

AB chose SIU because he was told they would push the ball and be more uptempo, the same reason Justin Bocot and Kevin Dillard went there. However, it didn't happen with Lowery.

I think Booker has the potential to be a very good player at Iowa State if they do in fact play uptempo basketball. However I think it depends on how much he works in his redshirt year to learn the system and mesh with the players on the court. It could make things a lot easier for him. If he is not mature enough though it could hurt him and he could see himself being seldom used.

It depends on how hard he wants to work but the tools are there for him to be a very solid player in the Big XII regardless of his numbers as a Saluki.

I didn't know about the Clancy deal..

you'd have to be a really old dude like dogs....since Clancy left Bradley more than a decade ago after a spat with his girlfriend turned into a DRuff type issue where nobody will ever know the truth...but there may have been no crime at all....

Didn't Kevin Clancy transfer/get booted due to beating up/hitting his girlfriend.....didn't Ruffin get into some serious hot water with a women.....didn't POB and another get suspended for improper benefits.....didn't Taylor Brown seek out and punch a guy at his place of work.....hasn't he been suspended 3 times for various infractions...didn't a couple BU players get busted for illegal consumption....?

WHile we can argue the severity of various offenses at various schools BU is not immune to players behaving badly much like most any other campus in the United States.

Its a disturbing trend and I hope it stops everywhere. I applaud BU for the discipline they are usually quick to set forth I would love to see the day when they don't have to even hand out anty punishments at all.....

THIS year would be a good start.

I understand some like to toss stones from their glass house but I often wonder why as the day will most likley come when one of those stones comes hurling right back at em.....
Yep, dogs. thats how some see it and spin it:!: Its like when someone passes gas and points to someone else:-o They Did IT:roll: Does not make it go away or smell any better!!!

Bottom line is these things DID happen AND there were punishments handed out. So again...we can spin em until the cows come home but the proof is in the pudding/punishment.

Also, I CLEARLY stated you can argue the severity but the bottom line is BU kids do the wrong thing from time to time....just like I did so, at least this is what I practice, I prefer NOT to cast stones.

If others want to do that...go for it.

I'm not ripping on BU...I'm simply pointing out problems aren't limited to ISU and SIU. Its the college landscape and it should concern all of us. I get almost as bothered when a kid does wrong at SIU as I do when its BU....I'm looking at the bigger picture (societal) and not trying to stick out my toungue and say SIU = Bad while BU = good.

Dogs is just a kid. Clancy wasn't a star like DR and don't forget he played before Jim Les arrived as coach and the Urnal Star didn't nit pick the Bradley basketball program as much until then.

I am not too old....but I remember when I was young I knew Clancy transferred to ISU and everyone booed him at the ISU game in Peoria haha. same guy?

...not trying to stick out my toungue and say SIU = Bad while BU = good.

but I believe SIU's failure to discipline or penalize their transgressions and allowance of the behavior blew up in their faces...
Now they have their coaches getting arrested for DUI....not a good formula for controlling the kids...

So I ask....the point of bringing this up is for what purpose?

He finished his career by playing 2 years at Loyola, and I think he even played against Bradley a couple times.

Old thread revived - in an effort to check on how this turned out for Anthony Booker...

Obviously he had to sit out a year then had two years left at Iowa State..
It's hard to know if he's happy with the move he made - but there's gotta at least be some doubt....Booker could have been an Anthony Tolliver or Jackie Carmichael in the Valley....coulda...

..unfortunately he was used as just a transition guy until Fred Hoiberg could land his own players...
While at SIU he played every game and was a key player - and would have had the same status had he transferred to another midmajor..
But - at Iowa State, he's been a sub, not a key player - and as time has worn on - his playing time has gone down, down, down...

Now as Melvin Ejim & Will Clyburn have developed - Booker is riding the bench and NOT playing at all.
His PT had shrunk to only 5-8 minutes over most of the past 2 months...and he's only made 3 baskets since December 19!
Last night - in a close loss at Oklahoma State, Booker didn't even play at all.

I have been following the Valley for 40 years - and in that time span there have only been a FEW players who "transfer up"...
go from the MVC to a BCS school...
we've had Marcus Arnold, James Hamilton, Booker....and now Nic Moore...actually Sam M. may have actually been one of the most successful but still wasn't a star...
(not counting Granger - he still went to another mid-major)
in contrast - a few who had the talent to do so - stayed in the Valley and were HUGELY successful (Larry Bird, Hawk, Korver, McDermott) so I hope we don't see more talent loss to bigger schools -

Have any that have "transferred up" from the MVC really ever been successful at the higher level??

sure - I guess he's a "transfer up" in a way....
as you know - he NEVER played much at all for Bradley - certainly isn't the kind of player I was thinking of who transferred up because he was good at the MVC-level...
and he did go first to juco before Indiana but was little more than a role player there - but he kind of fits my point - that he might have possibly been a great player at an MVC level - maybe a Korver or Funk-type or Wragge-type

Evans might be the last guy who jumped and was quite successful right away...but didn't he leave more due some turmoil at WSU than wanting to play "up"?

This goes back to the mid-80s....

After leaving Drake after one season, Joey Wright scored over 2000 points at Texas.

Lance Stemler didn't excel, but did go on to be named captain and start for a decent Indiana team.

Technically, Lance Stemler did not transfer from Bradley to a BCS school. He transferred back to junior college (SWIC), then after he became a juco All American, went to Indiana.
