Southeastern Iowa Community College- John Wilkins

I think there may be a few of us that are now planning on November 6th. It's a Friday game at 7:00pm. The drive out there is about 2 1/2 hours, so we'd probably leave sometime around 3:30 or 4.

Who wants to take off a couple hours early on a Friday and join us?

I am planning on that game.....I have Fridays off.....

Gotta Work on Friday, the 6th, but I'll be there on the 7th.:)

SCC's game on Saturday, Nov. 7th is at 5:00 pm against Southwestern Illinois College. That looks like a great game to go see, and it should be over around 7:00 pm so we wouldn't get back too late. I'm up for that game.

Southwestern's roster is here-

Note that they have Torres Roundtree, who was part of Chris Lowery's heralded freshman recruiting class last year, but quit the SIU team and will be a sophomore at Southwestern Illinois. They also have freshman Isiah Nunn, a 6'6" athletic forward from Moline HS, who Bradley recruited a little last year, and soph Kenny Leverette, a talented 6'2" guard from O'Fallon who was an All-State player a couple years ago and lead his team to the state tournament in Peoria. They have a couple pretty good big men in freshman 6'7", 250 Aaron Nelson from Bloom Township HS and 6'6" 215 Corbin Thomas who was a star for Seton Academy and lead them to the Class 2A title last March in Peoria. I thought he looked like a sure D1 talent, and was the most impressive kid I saw among the Class 2A teams.

I can't make it on the 6th, but this one seems doable to me.

Isn't the game in Burlington? If it is, Burlington is only about 95 miles from here, shouldn't take more than about an hour and a half to get there.

I agree...he can play at D-I but all the D-I schools shied away because he's more like 5-10 and 150 lb.
With a little muscle development he can get some D-I looks.

At a combine in the Spring of 2008, he was measured at 5'11.5, without shoes on. Zeke Schneider was at the same combine, and he was measured at 6'9.5, without shoes on, so take that for what it's worth.

I would say the 170 lbs is more of a stretch than the 6'1. At the same combine, he bench pressed just 1 rep of 135 lbs. It didn't look like at that point he had ever even been in a weight room, and he weighed in at 140 lbs.

I for one don't see the importance in strength from back court players or whether or not bench pressing is really a true barometer of physical strength, but building muscle would make him less susceptible to injury and occasionally battle for a board that falls outside the post.

FWIW, he did have one D-1 offer (Eastern Kentucky).

Found the wrong place when I typed it in quick on my iPhone... haha. But in that case, we'll leave 4:30 or 5! Much better.

Sounds like we have a great weekend there... one crew going on the 6th (so far its mrcoachdude and I... who else?? I can drive...) and another on the 7th!

If Wilkins doesn't feel supported after that weekend, I don't know what would do it! :)

Agreed! That sounds much better than just having one big group. Hopefully we can have two noticeable groups in Bradley red to show JW we can't wait to have him at BU! I'm still up for the 7th if I (and my 13 y/o son) can catch a ride with someone. My car hasn't been acting too nice lately and I wouldn't think of driving it any great distance right now.

I am looking into this day as well Jeff.

If your looking for the advantage of strength in a back court player look at U of I's and the Jazz's Deron Williams. He controls the floor and is a great defender due to his size. SamM, while I love him, is small, and makes up for it by hitting the weight room constantly. Even if I were a D-I BBall player, I wouldn't want to mess with SamM...

Having muscles at this level is extremely important, especially when you are trying to penetrate to the hoop. The ability to muscle your way inside can make a huge difference during a course of a game. I know when I play occasionally there's a player that you hack the heck out of but they still manage to get through you like a turnstile and score easily.

Could be a great game for some of the coaches to head to and recruit...I had seen Nunn play a few times in h.s. and aside from the academic eligibility question, he'd be a real asset for the BU program to try and offer.

The Thomas kid I don't know much about, but thats pretty decent size, although not necessarily if he played center as most do in lower classes at that size in hs.

Wilkins is also uncommitted.

I believe Bradley has the same committment from Wilkins as illinois state has from Threloff. I consider those to be committments, even though there's nothing in writing. However, just because there is something in writing doesn't really mean anything until that player enrolls and begins participating with his new team.

No, Wilkin's recruitment is wide open as of right now. Will officially visit Iowa State, has unofficially visited ISU, Bradley, and Illinois State. Kansas is very intererested.
