St. Farm Tourney/Bloomington, Max, PND, etc..

I would say the closest thing to an "above the rim" player that BU has had in the past few years are:

Chris Roberts
Boogie
Zach Andrews

just my opinion of course, but those 3 are the only ones in recent history that could be even considered as an "above the rim" type player.

I think you could easily add Theron Wilson to that list!

closest thing?? If there were a prototypical "above the rim player" anywhere in college baskletball the past few years,
it has to be Chris Roberts...absolutely has to be........
He made a living with high flying dunks that made ESPN....and it even earned him a chance at the college slam dunk championship
(which he shoulda won)...and a chance to be on the Globetrotters!!

If Roberts is only the "closest thing", then please, someone name the real thing because it doesn't exist if it's not CRob!

Can you name an "over the rim" player who has ever played in the MVC?

I was just answering your question. You asked if someone could name ANY "over the rim" type player in the whole MVC, and I named 3 that played for Bradley alone in the last 6 years. Dont jump on my case because you wanted an answer to the question....

The reason I didnt put Theron on this list is because he had a more overall game, I felt that Boogie, ZA, and CR all played mostly above the rim.

jrish...I know and I appreciate it and agree with ouy for the most part......
but there must be a misunderstanding with regards to how this topic started...
that post of mine was in defense of Max Bielfeldt and was in response to a post way, way back on the 1st page...
http://www.bradleyfans.com/vb/showthread.php?p=206118#post206118

it was not aimed at you at all.........
and I would agree a few MVC players occasionally are above the rim player..but not many Valley post players have even been described as such...
thus my contention that we would be crazy to turn down a kid just because he's not an "above the rim" player...we'd be waiting forever!

ok, tornado, I misunderstood the post. I also agree that we would be waiting for a looooong time if we didnt sign a player only because he wasnt an above the rim player.

Max is not an above the rim player, but he is a very good high school basketball player. I feel he would fit nicely into Bradley's system if he could get in better shape and run the floor a little better. He is certainly a D I talent, just not sure what level of D I yet.

This has been a fun interesting thread to be part of this week.

Max is a D1 player. Offers Prove It. I can promise you he is more mobile and athletic than people give him. He just doesn't have to play run n gun in high school 14-0 and beat some really good teams this year. He is doing what the system at PND asks him to do. The kid is in great shape and is not fat at all.

I ask this question to all Bielfeldt doubters. If he is to small, to slow, and not athletic enough to compete in the MVC. What in gods name makes some of you think Donivine Stewart is good enough for the MVC?

Not super quick, not very explosive, 6'0 guard???? But has a super high IQ for the game just like Bielfeldt...

This is an apples to oranges comparison here... If I am looking at a player like Max, I want to evaluate how he would compare to similar players in the league.

I agree with your assesment of DS. He has those issues plus a couple more related to shooting and playing defense. Imo he needs more work than Max does. It is hard to compare the 2 but Max is much more polished right now than DS is.... But, the main thing is that is that you can't be a small "big". I think our Valley wins/losses the past few years has exposed that weakness. Does Max really project out to be a force at the 4 or 5 position? The kind of "big" that the top teams in the MVC have? I just don't see it. He is a good player but I think we can do better at his position.

If Max picks the right school I would not be suprised to see him put up much better numbers than DS early in his college career. It will come down to how much playing time he wants.

Kirk Wessler says this about Max..
".. he is a very skilled, smart player with good size, and he should have a very
nice college career. Several years ago, when Bradley signed Daniel Ruffin, who
was neglected by the big-name schools because he was ???too small.??? I wrote
then that he was the type of player you see every March, playing point for a
mid-major team and running circles around big-name schools in a so-called
???Cinderella??? special. Well, guess who was the point guard for Bradley when the
Braves beat Kansas and Pitt to reach the 2006 NCAA Sweet 16? Yup. Bielfeldt
is a bigger player at a different position, but I have the same feeling about him:
He??™s the kind of guy who, as a college junior and senior we??™re likely to be
watching on television in March, cutting up big-name players and teams in the
tournament."

Max is a D1 player. Offers Prove It. QUOTE]

If "offers prove" he is a D1 player
Then no decent mid-major and above offers prove he is not a decent mid-major and above player.

Personally, I disagree with both statements. Just couldn't let that fly under the radar.

But really, can EVERY BCS school be wrong?

Are you trying to tell me Bradley is a solid mid major right now???? 0-6 in the MVC... Not in a BCS confrence. Bradley has not been to decent since they went to the NIT.

3 Horizon League offers (Valpo, Wright St. and UIC)

2 Mac offers (W. Michigan and Ball St.)

I think these are solid Mid-Major Schools. Im not saying he would be a great fit at a High Major. However I think he is perfect for any MVC team.. Yup any MVC team.

Please give it up. Bradley does not have any more scholarships, so Max won't likely be coming to Bradley. If the BU coaches don't think they need him, I am fine with that. Every other MVC coach as well as hundreds of other midmajor coaches passed on him, too.
I hope he has a great career, wherever he goes, but why is Jim Les the only coach who seems to be singled out as making a mistake here?

I agree....why is this still a topic?
