St. Mary's/Villanova

Yesssss.. another Big East (Villanova- #2 seed) team bites the dust at the hands of a lowly regarded midmajor (St. Mary's was a ridiculously low 10 seed).

The BCS boys must be arranging secret meetings to try to figure out how to stop this. Watch for them to expand to 96 teams quickly and make all the midmajors eliminate each other before they play the BCS boys.

Hey -- with Butler-Murray State up next, the first two teams in the Sweet 16 will be mid-majors. Swwweeeeeeeet!

Gotta root for Butler here, I feel like the have the best chance to win another round. Maybe Gonzaga can pull off an upset so we're guaranteed a mid-major in the Elite 8. I like NM's chances too

Agreed about the seeding this year. Some mid-majors were seeded very low like St. Mary's, but there were even more ridiculously high seeds for the BCS boys. This is where the pundits like Digger are going to look really stupid!

And the only good thing about expansion is it should guarantee at least two to three bids out of the Valley each year.

Or will it?! ;)

Also if Old Dominion beats Baylor, which is very possible, that would guarantee a mid-major in the Elite 8 as they would meet St. Mary's. Not bad at all if this can be done!

After the seedings and lack of MM at large bids I really didn't expect to be seeing this many Mids' exceeding... I am very pleasantly surprised.

I am too. But actually we did see double the number of mid-major bids this year, up from 4 to 8. Of course we used to see double digit MM at-large bids in the past, and I don't see why this can't be done again. But a nice jump for this year at least.

Of course based on the performance of the mids this year, look for just one or two MM at-large bids next year if the powers-that-be have their way!

maybe it wasn't the "at large field" that was weak this year..
maybe it was just the major conference (BCS) also-rans that were exceedingly weak this year!!
