Steve Alford = Classless Winner

Well technically Tavernari was egging the situation on but Alford still should of just walked away. I can only imagine the backlash Les would of got from the BU Administration if that was caught on tape and aired nationally lol.

Coaches should be above that. Alford is notorious for being a jerk and this only further substantiates that.

From the article: "To his credit, Tavernari went to the New Mexico locker room after the game to apologize to Alford. In what looked like a fairly even match of assholishness, why did the player have to be the one to say sorry? Shouldn't we be holding coaches to a higher standard?"

Exactly! Alford learned from the best. ;) This kind of reminds me of an incident BU had last year with someone of equal assholishness -- Greggy Marshall.

You are right, players who act inappropriately, should be disciplined by their team, their coaches, or sometimes the league. But a coach should never act like that toward a player on the opposing team, least of all after the game is over. It appeared that Alford provoked that exchange, and was the main aggressor. Alford may have been on his best behavior all year, but the Mountain West needs to discipline the guy for that incident.

Whether it's the school or the league Alford MUST be suspended for AT LEAST one game. That could have easily turned into a "line brawl" (seemed like appropriate lingo as I watch the US/Canada hockey game  ).

Agree - 100%

Alford not only called the kid an a$$hole, he shouted so loud that it clearly was heard by most people on the court...and he even pushed through the handshake line from the other side to be sure he got the last word in and was heard...

My call on this one is that the kid is playing the game, taking the hits and wound up as high as can be...I can understand him being upset..
but what's Alford's excuse....?? He is simply standing on the sidelines and he's the responsible figure in charge...
This to me is as severe case of being a jerk as a dad who screams "you're an a$$hole" in his kid's face or even closer...in the face of his neighbor's kid...
It is completely inexcusable, and even an apology will not soften to severity of how badly Alford has displayed himself as a total jerk!

In all fairness to Alford, none of you must have watched this game to see exactly what Tavernari did...

Still doesn't give Alford the right to yell what he did, BUT the kid certainly deserved everything that was said.

In all fairness to Alford.....

if I imagine that it was my kid to whom he shouted that...then I would say I don't care what he did, that Alford's comments of that nature to a kid he is NOT coaching (or a kid he IS coaching or a kid in the stands...) are still classless..

Maybe blame (the classless) coach of BYU for letting his player run wild.
