Storming the Court - Niagara

The Niagara students storming the court was probably they were on national TV and wanted to end up on SportsCenter. The ESPN Effect.

Yup.

And I have no problem with SLU storming the court after beating a very good ranked opponent.

On the other hand, there are definitely times when storming the court is bad form and just does not make you look good as fans.

Oregon's students stormed the court after beating Stanford yesterday, as well. They had been winless in the Pac-10 and finally broke through. I'm cool with celebrating an end to a conference losing streak.

Idaho fans stormed the court after they beat Boise State at home earlier this season...seemed a bit excessive, but I guess that's probably their biggest rival, and Idaho has been so bad for so long...

For example, in the past, if ranked ACC opponents would beat Duke, the crowd would most likely storm the court. Even when No. 11 Virginia beat No. 3 Duke, etc. I think I remember Duke being 5th and Clemson being 9th, and the fans stormed the court. It's okay to hate Duke, but it is rather annoying to storm the court when two tough ranked ACC teams are playing in a hostile arena.

They are playing better. But Majerus is getting less from his own recruits, and his 2 senior stars, Lisch and Liddell are carrying them.
I think they will fall off a little next year, but if Majerus stays around (and I am not convinced he will) in a couple years he could build them back to a contender in the A-10.
They lucked out a bit this year- of the top 5 teams in the A-10--Xavier, Dayton, Temple, Rhode Island, and St. Joseph's- the uneven schedule in the A-10 meant St. Louis only had to play Dayton twice, and the others only once.

Actually, you are wrong. The seniors have not been very consistent, let alone carrying the team. Lisch is in a season long shooting slump. Liddell has become more of a Theron Wilson do it all type, except in the games when Theron doesn't really score much.

Three out of the five active freshmen have been key contributors at times. Willie Reed is developing into quite a defensive force, and could be a great one by the time all is said and done. Kwamain Mitchell has been the absolute key to this team. I believe next year will be better than this year, with an even more talented freshmen class on the way in.

They are on quite a roll, and hey if they want to storm the court after beating a ranked opponent, great.

And to say "mired in 6th place" is also wrong. They are in 5th. And dayton is now 2nd after the loss. Facts have a funny way of getting confused on this board by certain people.

I don't have a problem with fans storming the court. Some places let you and some don't.

What makes the difference if you do or not.A little enthusiasm never hurt any team especially after a big win...letem storm

lefty-- watch this one...it only takes about 20 seconds...

do you think this is a safe situation or possibly a very severe tragedy waiting to happen??
Some incidents have occurred where storming the court led to injuries and lawsuits...and the schools are held liable...

Here's the most notorious case of a kid left permanently paralyzed by fans rushing the court...

From what I've seen, it sure looks like Lisch and Liddell have carried their team. Without them, I suspect the Billikens would have close to 20 losses by now.
Here are their stats-
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/teams/sbr/stats

You say, "Lisch is in a season long shooting slump."
But he is by far the leading scorer on the team at 14.1 ppg.
Lisch is also, by far, the best 3-point shooter at 39.7%. Nobody else is close. His shooting woes come from one main fact- St. Louis doesn't have any other reliable shooters! Lisch gets most of the focus on defense by St. Louis' opponents. He leads the team in minutes played, and has started all 26 games he has played in. And he is one of the best ball-handlers, is 2nd in assists, and the best free throw shooter on the team (83.1%).

Liddell is the 2nd leading scorer (12.1 ppg), and he is, by far, the leading rebounder (5.8 rpg). Also, he is 2nd in minutes played, and 3rd in assists.

They have gotten some nice contributions from the freshmen, but we'll see next year just how important Lisch and Liddell were. I predict they won't win more than 10-12 games next year.

yup that could be a disaster.

I've seen some that are more controlled but then you have some like this.

Difference.....Niagara seats whats 4000 and
Syracuse is like 20k.......

Like the Cubs not having to play the Yankees and Boston in inter-league last season. Oops, wrong sport.

Getting ready to go to the Arizona-Arizona St game. That is the Arizona version of the Bradley-ISU rivalry. Court might get stormed tonight. I'll let you know.

So just what do you call that at the end of the game? A delayed mini court storming maybe????

Syracuse actually seats a little over 30,000. Several of there marquee conference games have been 32,000+. It's like going to an indoor football game LOL.

I recall students trying to storm the court the last few years, and Civic Center security not allowing it. I recall thinking that was pretty lame of the PCC. These are college kids. Let them have fun.

No they're not, they're children. Give them rules and structure and dont let them dare do anything that is not proper!

Storming

Storming

BU never has enough students at the game to ever do an effective "storming" of the court. Plus, the gray hairs and fossils who sit close would be so upset by such a spectacle that all the students involved would be expelled and the student section eliminated.

For the MSU game, there were enough. And I know many of the students were getting ready. And others might have followed. For most people, that is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It doesn't hurt anyone. We don't care about the consequences - we get so emotionally attached and that would just top it off. Hopefully we get that opportunity with a big opponent, a bunch of students, and a win in the future.

Might have? I would've bet you a year's tuition we'd storm the court if we beat Michigan State.

I would have done it. Well... wait, from row 18 it might have been a controlled decent to the floor, but I'd've tried to get down there.
