student section

was it just me, or did we in the student section outnumber the saluki students? not too shabby. (probably more students that attend a regular home game, which is sad)

i think pob showed in the first half exactly why he should be in the nba, and i think in the second half he showed exactly why he shouldnt be in the nba (seemed tired, no boxing out, giving up emphatic dunks)

will be certainly glad to have him back next year 10-15 pounds heavier and dominating the valley (and then maybe a senior year all american/valley player of year)....

At least from where I was in the stadium, I hate to say it, but our student section was pretty quiet. It was almost a home game for SIU (though maybe that was just on the side of the stadium that I happened to be sitting in).

The one thing I can say for sure is that our pep band was way way WAY too quiet. They were getting rocked by SIU's band. We should work on that. BU pep band was nearly sedate sounding... I really was kind of suprised by it.

Watching at home, I thought the BU fans sounded great. They got drowned out by SIU in the second half because very little went right for us! True about the band--they need to pump up the volume!

it did seem to me like the band was trying to start too many cheers, and most of the back of the section was speeding up the chants, to where we started to sound like garbage....we need more of these students around all year so they can get some practice in.

i am a student at Bradley and I was at the game today. I showed up about 45 mins early for the game and I got screwed out of the student section. There was at least 50 of us that couldnt sit down in the student section because they ran out of those tickets even thought I could def see some open seats down there. Wasnt too pleased. I think we were a lot louder yesterday at the game, probably because of the outcome, although we had about 3/4 of what we had today.

just giving some info for the people who couldnt attend

id say for the numbers we had there we wenrt as loud, my mom who watched on TV agreed.

Part of the reason the Bradley fans did not sound as loud as the SIU (or as the Wichita fans Saturday) is that they were spread all over ther stadium. Since far fewer of them bought the All-Session passes, they bought tickets when they arrived. That spread them all around, including many in the upper bowl.

I want to commend Ken Kavanagh and Bradley for trying to help out the Bradley fans. After Bradley's win Friday, Bradley bought up a large block of tickets at the Bradley end of the lower bowl for both Sat & Sun games and stood outside and corralled Bradley fans and sold the tickets to them at a discount.

The students were great,
only wish more of them could have been there.
Our student section, cheerleaders, dance team, and fans in general were top class, and did themselves proud.

By the way, the latest report on the girl who fell while the SIU cheerleaders were doing a routine, is that she'll be OK>

Here is a report with pictures, the girl was knocked unconscious for 2-3 minutes, then recovered and waved her arms to let people know she was OK.

yeah i'd have to agree that the student section was just uncoordinated. Having the band seperate us from the cheerleaders (who take direction from the front rows of the student section at home games a lot of the time) led to the back of the student section and the front trying to do different cheers a lot of the time. I lot of people in the back I had not seen at any other games this year, so yeah I agree with saying they should be at more games to get in practice.

We need to get that stadium built on campus. ....

There are no plans to build an arena on campus for mens basketball.
The present plans are to build a 7-8000 capacity arena for all events except mens basketball and that would still be at the Civic Center.
The arena would be for womens basketball, volleyball, tourneys, practice, camps, and all other athletic purposes.
If they were to build an arena big enough to match the needs presently filled by the Civic Center, they'd have to buy all the property from University to Bradley Park.

The men HAVE to stay at the Civic Center, because if they played on campus, I could not enjoy my $5 beers well watching them play.
Also, the downtown restaurants would lose 14-15 of their best nights!

does someone wanna show me where i mentioned we need a stadium on campus????????

i dont recall saying that, and cant see where it DOES say that.

yeah, we dont need to move out of the civic center.

Then they need to get the ice out of there. Our court is known to be slippery due to the ice rink under our floor boards. I'm not sure if an on campus building is in need but an up-dated facility would only help recruiting. UNI will be moving in a new building with nice locker rooms and state of the art workout facilities, MST is planning on building a new state of the art building, WSU has a nice new building. We need a plan to at least give our players the state of the art facility to practice and workout in so we can keep up with the rest. If we want to go head to head with the big boys, not just in our conference we also need to give JL all the tools possible to out recruit them. I'm sorry to say Carver does not really give us a leg up. BU and Peoria deserves more.

I like drinking at the games too (though I did more when I was a student)... But that's not enough reason to keep our basketball program playing at a dual purpose venue with a slippery floor that makes it hard for students to attend games. You may not be able to get your $5 beers, but that's what the pre-game and the post-game are for. The more important thing is that we get more COLLEGE students to the COLLEGE bball games. I've suspected for a while that our student section was small and (as pointed out by others) uncoordinated/inexperienced. Being at a neutral venue with SIU fans everywhere who knew cheers and were loud and raucous proved it to me.

well the civic center not being on campus is not an excuse for other students to not go. I made it to every game no problem, thats what the shuttles are for. I think the problem is not enough students care or are too lazy. I went to West Aurora (if you couldnt tell from the avatar) so I enjoy going to the games and being vocal and cheering, but I am easily in the minority.

What 's up with T J Marion.........is he interested in the Braves and does he have the grades? I know I would love to have him on the Hilltop!

TJ is pretty busy right now.
His team is playing the 23-5 Elmhurst York team of Coach Al B in tonight's semifinal of the East Aurora Sectional.
If they win, they play the winner of the Batavia (26-1) vs. Glenbard East (24-3) semi on Friday night.

I wish I had seen him. I ended up going from half court lower bowl tickets on Friday to corner upper bowl tickets for the Saturday game. There were surprisingly a bunch of BU fans up at the top with us.

its not us, its any basketball court over an ice rink. these courts tend to hold the moisture & slip more. its not an isolated bradley problem.
