Synopsis of Old Dominion-
The ODU Monarchs finished 24-10 overall, and 12-6 in the Colonial Athletic Association.
They finished 3rd in the conference to VCU (1st 14-4), and George Mason (2nd 13-5).
They lost to VCU in the CAA Tournament semifinal.
They played a weak preconference schedule- ODU's non-conference Strength of Schedule was 315- worse than any other school in the CAA, and worse than any MVC team.

ODU is unlike any team in the MVC. They get most of their production from the forwards. They have several big strong players.

Players-
ODU usually plays 8 players- click on name to see bio:
Gerald Lee- 6'10", 250 pound junior who is the leading scorer with 15.5 ppg, and he also gets 5.7 rpg. He also leads in minutes played at 30.7 mpg. He is from Finland. His father played pro basketball in Finland, married a Finnish woman and settled there.
Ben Finney- is a 6'5", 220 lb. sophomore from Portsmouth, VA, who plays 29.3 mpg and averages 10.0 ppg (2nd on team), 6.1 rpg (1st on team).
Keyon Carter- is a 6'8", 220 lb. redshirt sophomore forward from Riviera Beach, Florida. He averages 8.0 ppg and 4.7 rpg.
Frank Hassell- is a 6'8", 245 lb. redshirt sophomore from Chesapeake, VA. He averages 7.2 ppg, and 5.0 rpg.
Darius James- is a 6'1", 165 lb. sophomore guard from Virginia Beach, VA. He is their highest scoring guard at 6.9 ppg, and leads the team with 4.5 apg. He is the only player to start all 34 games. He shoots just 33% from the floor, and 32% from three, though he shoots more threes than anyone on the team.
Marsharee Neely- is a 6'2", 190 lb. junior guard from Greensboro, NC. He starts most games, and averages 19 mpg. He averages 6.9 ppg, and averages 38% on threes.
Jonathan Adams- is a 6'6", 215 lb. senior forward from Ringgold, GA. He averages 22 mpg, 5.2 ppg, and 3.9 rpg as a backup. He is the only senior on the team.
Kent Bazemore- is a 6'5", 190 lb. redshirt freshman forward from Kelford, NC. He averages 16 mpg, 4.6 ppg, and 3.0 rpg.
There are 3 other deep reserves who average few minutes and probably won't see action, Trian Ileadis (6'3" Fr. guard, 2.4 ppg), Chris Cooper (6'9" Fr. forward, 1.0 ppg), Marquel De Lancy (6', 190 Fr. guard, 0.9 ppg)

Stats- note that this is not a team that shoots a lot of threes, and their overall shooting percentages are not impressive. Even their free throw percentages are not too good. But their rebounding numbers are very good.-

What's their tempo like? It looks like we'll have to be able to speed up the game and hit our outside shot. 2 things that we have not excelled consistantly with this year. If DD can hit that shot like he did against Pacific we'll be fine.

Yeah, and that was our worst 3-point shooting game of this tournament.

55.0% vs. Austin Peay

53.3% vs. Oakland

39.1% vs. Pacific

On top of shooting 3's well, we'll definitely have to take care of the ball, get some steals that lead to easy transition points and/or foul shots, and make our free throws!

This should surely be a more exciting game than the 2 NCAA games tonight. Louisville just won by 39 over AZ and OKL is on its way to an easy 20 point win over Syracuse. Was up by 30 at one point. Add that to last nights game of Missouri up by 25 at one point to Memphis and Villanova up by 20 at one point to Duke. Some sweet 16 this is so far.

Rpi

Rpi

Well I don't know if you guys know...www.warrennolan.com still has it's rpi changing for both the CBI and the CIT post season teams. Currently...
ODU's RPI : 83
BU's RPI : 88

I know this is going to be a tough game...best of luck Bradley..

Welcome aboard. I have a feeling this will be a close game all the way to the end!

Thanks guys..

Well some of our teams facts
1. If we play well at the beginning, we will keep playing well through out the game.
2. If we start missing shots at the beginning, we will keep missing it.
3.If you lead huge due to our silly passing turnovers or steals .....then we can COME BACK for sure!!...( game will be very very very close maybe buzzer beater )
4. If we start hitting three's we will keep hitting them through out the game.
5. If we don't hit threes at the beginning then we will mostly be scoring from inside the paint. And at this Gerald Lee and Ben Finney will step up.
5. If your team plays a slow game we can adapt to it easily and the game might as well as be close.
6. It all depends on one of our players....If he can score well, then everyone in our team thinks they can too. We just need to break your defense barrier at the beginning so our guys will get some confidence about scoring....after all our only problem is in the finishing.:-D

Welcome to the boards oduguy. I'm surprised your team did not at least make the NIT. I guess a couple of bad losses kept them out, but ODU may be the toughest team we will have played this tourney, perhaps even tougher than Oakland. And you know what it took for us to beat them! :D

This should be a great game, and it probably will be close all the way. If it's anything like the last time we played you guys in the 1994 NIT, this will be a very entertaining game!
Enjoy the game! :)

Sounds like a tough matchup... Gonna be a tough one, and I'm looking forward to one heckuva game to watch. Sounds like it's going to be the small-ball vs. bigs matchup again (hoping the last few a couple of seasons).

pressure their guards...maybe a 3/4 court pressure, but their guards are where we need to create the turnovers and mistakes

That's the key to the game. Make it helter-skelter. If they have time to set up and pound it inside we'll lose by double digits.

I've been wanting to play like this all season and now that our players are much more experience in our system, why not! We just need to watch out that we ourselves do not turn the ball over and let them score easy baskets.

Also on another note: I believe EM has the ability to be our version of Ty Lawson. They have a very similar game and it took TL a bit to be able to hit that outside shot. When EM starts hitting that shot from the top of the key, WATCH OUT!!!!

I don't feel real good about this one. Belmont went to Evansville and blew them out, then went to ODU and got creamed. I am afraid this one could get ugly if we play our usual D. I don't think we have an answer for there inside game or their D. They only give up 60 ppg and we struggle against even the weakest teams...

I agree that Bradley probably can't simply employ their usual defense. I am sure the coaches will put together an effective game plan. ODU is not unbeatable. In fact they have been beaten by some pretty weak teams such as Georgia State, Hofstra, Marshall, and Bucknell.

You are exactly right....

You are exactly right....

ODU had some horrendous losses in November - January, with Ga. State and Bucknell carrying the greatest stench.

Fortunately, it is a long season, and after late-January, we have only lost two games. One to Hofstra (top 100 rpi team, by the way), and VCU in the semi's of the CAA tourney.

We are very beatable ,especially if our guards cannot make shots from the outside. Our offense is predicated on the inside by Lee and Hassell and by O-rebounding; but we must keep defenses honest by hitting some outside shots to play well.

In Section 1, mezzanine, row WC1. How is my seat??

Let's hope for a game where we both play well. I, for one, am really excited about this matchup.

I believe that's behind the concrete wall at the top of the lower bowl. WC = wheelchair ?

Section 1 being center court. Glad you're making the trip!

Section 1 puts you even with midcourt. The Mezzanine is the walkway that separates the lower bowl and the upper bowl. Those are very good seats right behind the lower bowl seats. The WC1 is a moveable chair designated for a handicapped person in a wheel chair if needed.
