Teams invited to the CBI- Wichita State and Oregon State

I don't think these tourneys mean a thing other than the kids get to play another game (maybe at home) and the fans get to see us play some teams we otherwise wouldn't get home or away! Do we think Cincinnati or Tulsa would ever schedule us or would we even give us a 2 for 1 deal, and I doubt Virginia would even answer our call? So whatever you think of these tourneys at least the fans gets to see somebody besides Horizon league teams - I hope!

And it's sure better than nothing or being part of a 128 team NCAA one and done debacle! Best thing for us to do is to get some better talent on the court, win our own tourney or league and go to the big dance, otherwise we'll just have be happy with what we get!

What is a joke is teams trying to convince fans that playing in the CBI or CIT is a "reward" for a good season. It isn't. Like you I love watching more Bradley games but the CIT event isn't anymore "legit" than the CBI.

After the NCAA and NIT the rest all fall in the same category. They are extra games for teams willing to either A) pay for the home game or B) get the money to go on the road to extend their seasons. Nothing more, nothing less.

Exactly...but I understand the "confusion" so to speak. We are so programed in our thinking that end-of-season tourneys (NCAA/NIT) are just that...rewards for regular seson play that many are thinking the CBI/CIT are ALSO in that same vain.

I DO think it would be nice if there was some minimal set standards but thats up to the promoters. Again...just view it as a chance to play some hoops and get ready for next year and it CAN be fun. I had a riot watching BU last year in the CBI.

Its NOT what we want but now that the season is over nothing can be done so take whats there.

No. As I have posted several times, the money isn't a factor, unless it is the only factor a tournament uses.

What makes the CBI a joke this year, is they are seeking out teams like Oregon State, with only an 11-17 record against D1, and signing them up for a home game before they even have more than 2 of the 16 teams selected.

Oregon State will be one of the worst teams ever to appear in a postseason tournament. I could understand this if they couldn't get 16 teams, but the field of available teams isn't even known yet, and they only have 2 of the 16 slots filled so far, as far as we know.

Being a .500 or above team doesn't necassarily mean you are "better" then a team at or below .500. IF the CBI OR the CIT wants to distance themselves from the other OR wants to make their tourney a reward for the regular season they will have to come up with a distinct and more recognizable set of standards BEYOND a teams simple W-L record. The W-L "looks" better if a team is over .500 but thats all it tells you.

I DO agree that they jumped early but its THEIR tournament and thats how they choose to run it. Again...I think you are looking at the CBI as a "reward" type tourney. Has the CBI indicated or mkt. it as such? I dunno.

I liked the tournament too. Both of these tournaments are designed to either reward a team that has not participated in any postseason for a long while (Wichita St if 3 years counts), or for teams like Oregon St and Bradley who can use the games for more experience for their teams.

Most of the teams are decent teams, but with the economy or the fact some teams will not accept invites, there will always be some teams playing that probably don't deserve to.

Now will the CIT field a stronger group of teams due to the lower entry fee? Probably, and that tourney may be more competitive for the teams participating. But both tourneys should be competitive and enjoyable for the fans and players.

Obviously the NIT is the higher quality "second tier" tourney, but with so many deserving teams not making these two tourneys, it's nice to know that there are others out there that will give decent teams a chance to extend their season.

If it's Oregon State that is being invited, then the Nike money thing is a little off base. The University of Oregon is the school with the Nike dollars, and they were last place in the Pac 10 this year. Nike was founded in Eugene, where the Ducks play.
 
Last year a lot of teams chose to not play in the CBI because of the 60,000 dollar guarantee so the tour. has to choose teams that can draw enough fans to make some money, nobody claimed that this is a great tour., but as far as I am concerned it is good to try and get your team as many postseason games to play in as possible, the teams BU played against in this tour. last season were decent teams and the games were pretty good ones to watch.

hahaha I wish because I'm probably going to Oregon next year, but I don't think even the most arrogant BCS proponent would claim that either would beat Northern Iowa.

Nothing wrong with wanting to keep your team practicing a bit longer. I would suspect that some coaches wish there were some type of summer tournament. I would suspect that for most coaches who go into these games it gives them a chance to evaluate their team for next year a bit longer and also gives them the ability to start preparing their team for the following year with some new roles. Last year we saw DC take a step forward during the CBI, even though not as far as we would have liked, but who will take those steps this year?

I think after today's NCAA selections and this evening's NIT pairings we're going to learn that the CBI and CIT are going to become the 'reward' for most mid major conferences and before long we'll be fighting over invitations like a dogs over a bone! These sub tourneys aren't jokes they are our destiny!

So let's enjoy these opportunities while we still can!

I had a very bad feeling once I saw them falling off everyone's projections. I'd have to say USC and Mississippi State sealed the deal.
