The MVC Preseason Poll

yoda

Well-known member
This year is different - they are doing their preseason "poll" after a series of interviews with "Field of 68"
As previously stated, there will be more interviews plus the release of the Preseason All-MVC teams.

Illinois State is picked to win the Valley - here are the results of the poll- only the top 5 teams are named in this release.

Team.............Points...(1st place votes)
1. Illinois St...... 487 (34)
2. UNI .................442 (8)
3. Murray St.......385 (4)
4. Bradley ...........370
5. Belmont .........344

Are just the top five teams listed? I'd like to see the complete poll to see where all the teams are predicted to finish. Where can I see that?

they announced they will not reveal the rest of the poll - spots 6 thru 11.
Maybe it's because they all tied for last place with the fewest points possible?
But, seriously, all the bottom teams are complete rebuilds thanks to the portal & NIL money.

How do you think the rest of the Valley will rank if you had to vote?

Here's what I think-
6 SIU
7 Drake
8 Valpo
9 Evansville
10 UIC
11 Indiana State

The last time Bradley finished as a 4 seed in 2020, they went on to win the MVC tournament! It appears to me the Valley is wide open this year at least realistically for the top 5 teams in the poll! But you never know although Drake was quite an outlier last year as I'm not even sure where they stood in preseason poll! What matters most likely is being in the top 4 seeds for a bye in round 1! BU has a decent chance to accomplish this! I do hope Illinois State falls into a great MVC tournament showdown with BU! As rivals, you couldn't ask for more and a possible upset bid is so fun to root for!!!!

Illinois State is picked to win the Valley -...
ISU held their public "scrimmage" event last night ("Ballin' on Beaufort"), an outdoor shooting & 3-point competition.
I find it odd that the Pantagraph, their own local newspaper, did not even have a mention of it today intheir edition, but then probably budget cuts have led to layoffs there and they maybe don't have anyone to cover ISU.
Anway, from what I caould find, it appears Johnny Kinzinger sat out with some injury, Daughtery won their 3-point contest hitting 13 of 15,

Still waiting for the rest of the preseason info release. Will it include anything more than the "Players to Watch"?

Hey Yoda.
Randy Reinhardt is the only sportswriter left and he covers ISU sports along with Illinois Wesleyan and all the local high schools.
Most likely covered all three high school golf regionals yesterday.
He does the best he can covering ISU football and basketball.
Hard beat to cover everything in Normal-Bloomington and the surrounding area.

Drake has their Hoopfest outdoors later today

and yes, Brave Bird I know, the newspapers are all failing and they use that as an excuse for why they don't cover anything and are failing.

Remember- 20-30 years ago, the few major city newspapers (and many cities like Peoria had just one newspaper so
they had a 100% monopoly) - they literally had a lock for generations into the future and information providers and sources for
news, sports and events. All they had to do is utilize the new technology of the internet to their advantage - they already had ALL THE TOOLS and advantages with their communication systems and connections.

BUT for God knows what reason they opposed it, rejected it and fought against it at every turn. It is any wonder they lost that battle big time. Now, in 2025, more people turn to Twitter (X), blogs and message boards than buy or read newspapers. The newspaper people committed
suicide with their arrogance, bias, bigotry and stupidity. I have zero sympathy for them. Our experience here in Peoria was legendary,
with Wessler & his crew bitterly & jealously hating on Bradley and their fans and especially on the message boards. Recall Wessler and Liesse attacking people who dared express opinions online that were not to their liking, and those who posted info on message boards anonymously because thePJS was getting scooped daily by literal amateurs who were doing their journalism better than they were and more timely. Eminian does a fair job, way better than what we ever got from Reynolds or Wessler. But I get 98% of my college basketball info & news from personal contacts & sources, the internet, the message boards and X.

Something I forgot to mention… if memory serves, the Pantagraph is printed at the Journal Star building now, and all stories have to be in by 4 pm. With Balling on Beaufort beginning at 5, anything done would not have made it in Thursday’s edition. Noticed photos from the event in today’s edition.

but anything online wouldn't be affected at all by print deadlines, and yet not a mention anywhere in their online content.
Their sports page right now contains lots of reports from football games that were just played literally minutes ago.
And now, 24 hrs later, they do have some photos from Ballin' on Beaufort but no text, no reports or story.

What is this 'newspaper' thing you speak of, Yoda? ;)

Interesting announcement from Indiana State-
Their coaching staff have agreed to wear apparel with advertising logos on them in order to fatten the NIL coffers...LINK

Any truth to the rumor they will be changing their name to the Indiana State Mountain Dews?
