The Red Sea

Thought this suggestion deserved its own thread. Great Idea. With the BU players "parting the Red Sea" as they come to the court.

I would work on this for awhile.....tweak it if needed then forward the suggestion to BU.

The ENTIRE stadium could be called the Red Sea with the Student section the Red Sea_______? (rowdies, mob, gang, etc..)

BU started to really change the atmosphere at BU games last year and REALLY needs to kick it up a notch this year. Move away from the fans thinking BU is about them as a place to be seen and making it about the EVENT of BU basketball.

The red and white outs were great. I know mm will love this comparison  but the Illini do a tremendous job with the orangeouts. Its pretty much a "culture" that has been established where you are expected to wear orange.

BU can create that SAME culture with RED of course  Its NOT about being seen in your suit.....its about creating the best homecourt advantage in the BIG Valley.

I agree. Nobody in the crowd cares about what you are wearing during the game. How tough is it to slip a red shirt over your outfit for 40 minutes? Carver Arena should be all red all the time.

Agree that Red Sea has excellent potential. Team captain or other selected player could actively part the red sea with a basketball in his hand instead of a crook. Some kind of ominous music and a spotlight on the player.

I love this idea! There's so much stuff that could tie in with it, and it might take ye olde student section to a new level.

Now I'm going to play the part of naysayer ... Acting as enraged BU fan #43 will be IheartBU ...

"That's disrespectful! Bradley Basketball is blasphemous! Let's crucify the entire promotions department!"

Theoretically, we go from making a mockery of Native Americans to making a mockery of the Bible.

Why do I wonder how soon someone would start whining?

Maybe that's the part where we tell them the other option was the "Lesticles" ...

That lends itself well to a mascot too...dress someone up as Moses in a robe and white beard. I know BU isn't a religious school but it fits the Red Sea

Good thinking DRU- How about the entire arena is the Red Sea and the baseline section are the Red Sea Rowdies!

Ok.. I like the Red Sea idea and I am partial to the rowdies. But, let me throw this out there... Given how our fan base responds to the games, I wonder how long the red out concept will be taken as a fad and people will start to lose interest. I know we have to start somewhere.

I think that maybe the first game and a few sleect games are Red Outs... but the emphasis on the Red Sea Rowdies(students)is consistent throughout the year.

Heck even a whiteout with the exception of the Red Sea Rowdies would be an awesome visual! :D

Whatever you decide to do, you absolutely need to make sure people are involved and informed. I'd suggest making a "unofficial" (read: not sanctioned by BU) Facebook group for the student section, locked down to only BU people, where chants, opposing player facts, etc. can be catalogued. And if you can get the BU promotions people to set up something on the BUBraves.com Web site (or even for them to flesh out the "traditions" section of the site...) for the "official" promotions/ cheers/ whatev, that's even better.

Of course, once you get these things done, you have to make sure people know about them. Facebook is easy, but the other may not be.

The repressed PR major in me could have a field day with this ...

Now a tradition does take time to build but the wearing red can work and has worked for years at the University of Nebraska. I am a season ticket holder there for football and their stadium is known as the "The Sea of Red". It looks pretty awesome each week as the sold out stadium is full of folks in mostly red. There are some that wear white or black on occasion, but that doesn't really stick out when you have 70,000 plus in the stands.

I would say we just need to build on this and make sure the long time fans are aware. I would say the age groups are pretty similiar from Bradley basketball and Nebraska football fans so it can be done! It may just take some time.....

Plus, this gives me two sports and two teams in all red!!

And each game, one student will be teh Red Sea Rowdie of the night and get some sort of recognition... like a free pass to one of Dr. Brune's classes...

I like the idea DRU...I think it has some great potential....My personal opinion is that if you are going to the BU game you should be wearing RED....period! (especially if you are a season ticket holder as oppesed to the "casual fan" that got the corporate seats for one night) I don't care if it is a red out or whatever... Using your example of U of I....they have one "paint the hall orange" night during the year but the hall is about 95% orange for EVERY game...not just for the promotional night.

I am in total agreement we need to get the Joe Napoli's, Jerry Shaheen's, and Pete Vonachen's to put on a freakin' RED shirt. How tough is it to wear a red shirt 14 nights out of the year? These guys are sapposed to be community leaders. They should lead by example.....WEAR RED!!

Sorry for the rant and rave....I got off the point of the thread a bit.... but this is a big pet peve (sp?) of mine....people who would rather flash their jewelry than applaud or cheer a good play... Sorry .....Go Braves!

I think we could use "Red Sea" without any religious affiliation whatsoever. Just don't have a Moses character, ect. and it should be fine. I think that we really should communicate more with the students and the crowd to get them more into the game, as many students even show up without really knowing anything about the opponents, and just a few of us that yell at the opposing bench ever look anything up on competition.

Instead of her usual full length mink coat, Mrs. Shaheen could wear a full length RED fox coat. COOL!

I like it a lot, like I said we've thrown it around before, I think we have to stay away from ANY moses or biblical reference at all, or the tradition will end as quickly as it began. I think we should really work on this a flesh out some ideas, at some point we have to talk to BU Sports Marketing because if this isn't the direction they want to go it all could be in vain.

Chucky T, if it wasn't for the likes of Napoli, Vonachen, Sheehan and many fans like them, we wouldn't have the program we have today. The students should have a space on their red shirt which says how many games they have attended so far during the season. I hope the student attendance continues next season, because until last season it was shameful.

I like the red sea...

I like the red sea...

And if we have a bad season once in a while, and attendance goes down, we can just be the dead sea during those years.
