Will try to update as often as I can. Feel free to update for me if I fall behind. I might let it go a couple days without updating til it gets down to about 5 teams. List is alphabetical mostly. Shows the team's record - if there are any records in parenthesis it means they have also beaten a Non-D1 team (or non-RPI qualifier). Also trying to show next game on schedule.

Georgetown --- 5-0 --- 12/5 American
Illinois St --- 6-0 --- 12/5 C Mich

Southern Miss was 5-0 until today, but they lost to Ole Miss.

LOL! Thanks T - I missed them. I musta quit looking for unbeaten teams once I got to Illinois State... I was going down the list based on RPI. Hahaaaa.... plus, as one of your favorite teams (S Miss), surprised you didn't say they were 2-0 before they lost today (3 of their 5 wins were against non-D1's). LOL!

Oh here we go again. Southern Miss undefeated until they play an actual real team! Like ISU, when the heck are they going to learn they actually need to play someone decent to prepare themselves for conference play?

I hope both of these teams fall real quick come conference time! :D

ISU's schedule looks like Bradley's schedule compared to Southern Miss's schedule.

Sorry, I can't agree with this.
ISUs schedule is much worse.
Southern Miss does one smart thing- they put NAIA schools on their schedule, so they do not count against their RPI. But even considering their NAIA cupcakes, So. Miss. schedule looks like Duke's compared to ISUs.

Considering the D1 schools on their schedules-
Illinois State's SOS 341
Southern Miss SOS 102

Here is So. Miss's schedule with RPIs-
http://realtimerpi.com/rpi_226_Men.html
They play only 2 D1 schools (3 games) with an RPI higher than 200 (they play La Lafayette twice, and CSU Bakersfield). Also, they play 3 road games against teams with RPI less than 200.

Here is ISUs-
http://realtimerpi.com/rpi_298_Men.html
they play eight games against teams with RPI higher than 200!
SIU-E, UIC, Norfolk St., SEMO, CMU, Ohio, Utah, and Grambling.
Also, they do not play a single road game against a team with an RPI less than 215!
The ICC basketball team would have a good chance to go undefeated against the non-conference teams on ISU's schedule!:D

speaking of ICC, they are very young - mostly freshmen, but I doubt their starting five would be able to hang with any D-I.
However, there are probably still a whole bunch of people on another message board who think they can!

Well, for RPI purposes, I can buy that argument then. But there's multiple schools on Southern Miss's schedule that are worse than the worst opponent on ISU's schedule. So from a competitive standpoint, it's worse.

But from a resume standpoint, it isn't, and that's the tone in which I usually speak

Conference USA could be interesting this year. Couple teams look pretty sharp there including the traditional Memphis, but really interested in seeing how UTEP does. They are still sitting at undefeated, and with their next game, I believe Derek Caracter becomes eligible. he was always a trainwreck at Louisville, but I'm hoping hes been humbled a bit. All the 'supposed' talent could go to waste if he doesn't get his act in gear.

Sounds like they won't know til tomorrow regarding Caracter's status:

" "If he's eligible, he'll play," UTEP coach Tony Barbee said, adding that he should know Caracter's status sometime on Saturday. "

Good find CzechBrave - I forgot about him transferring.

Ohio with an RPI near 200 is another perfect example of how ridiculous RPI is in mid-December. I will consider it a big surprise if they lose at home to the Redbirds Wednesday. Ohio would contend in the Valley this season, and will be in the MAC race all the way to the end.

Tulsa, I completely and wholeheartedly disagree...

Ohio is 4-3, with their four wins being over --
MTSU (1-6, RPI 250), NC A&T (2-5, RPI 274), Lamar (2-6, RPI 273), and Delaware (2-7, RPI 311).

Their three losses were to the ONLY three teams they've played with RPI's better than 250!!!

So where would you rank a team who has lost to every decent team above RPI 250 that they play??
I firmly believe the RPI has them JUST ABOUT RIGHT at 194 -- maybe even a bit high given they haven't beaten anyone yet!!

You can't knock the RPI just because it doesn't have the power to see that a team is somehow actually better than they've played so far...!!

Ohio played here in Tulsa and nearly won. I'll be surprised if they do not win the MAC East. They'll beat the Redbirds Wednesday...probably by double digits...but that's not going to mean much either RPI wise. I'll admit they had a bad loss at home to Austin Peay, although the Governors will probably win the OVC. They probably had a bit of a hangover from the Tulsa game that night.

I'm still shocked to see Missouri State on this list.

I recently heard that they have only trailed for 9 minutes this season. Even though they don't win by large margins they have been very dominant in their non-con.

Saturday they square off with SLU in in Saint Louis. Could be a very good barometer for them.
