Theron Wilson appears to have had scholarship offers from Bradley and Illinois State.
Does anyone else wonder why he would sign on as the 8th player in Bradley's recruiting class, rather than consider going to Illinois State where he would have been the star of their 2-man recruiting class?

<Insert bad ISU jokes here>

There are several theories I could come up with here, but all would be tantamount to me chanting "I SCREWED UP-P-P-P!!!" at Redbird Arena a few months ago. IMO, this all relates back to a few weeks ago when we had a pretty heated discussion on the board about whether you'd rather be the star of a bad team or a part of a good team, and apparently TW decided he'd rather be a working part of a good team. Really, we're poised to go a lot further than our buddies up the road -- what fun is it to have your season end on Thursday night in St. Louis? As much as I hope ISU has a major turnaround under the new regime ('cause, let's face it, beating them bad is only so much fun ... ), it's a lot more likely that success will come from BU rather than ISU in the coming season(s).

Or maybe he just wants some new jewelry next March or perhaps he has a penchant for cutting down nets??

I don't quite agree. They return all their perimeter players. But, other than Osiris Eldridge, who do you include in saying "they have a good team on the perimeter"?
I see their perimeter game as weak. They have a number of guys who are poor ball handlers (except Boo), not good shooters (none shot even 40%), and are not good at creating shots or getting to the basket (except "O"). Am I wrong?
I think ISU will struggle to score again next year, just like they did last year.

Their perimeter players as far as I can see are-
Osiris Eldridge (will be soph)- 9.5 ppg, 38% FG pct.
Brandon Holz (jr.)- 2.3 ppg, 33% FG pct., played only 8.7 min/game may not be back next year
Dom Johnson (sr.)- 8.3 ppg, 38% FG pct.
Boo Richardson (sr.)- 9.8 ppg, 39% FG pct.
Julius Moor (sr.) a walk-on- 0.4 ppg, 25% FG pct.,played only 4.4 min/game
and maybe Bobby Hill (soph)- he is listed as a forward, and is not really a perimeter player. 2.2 ppg, 42% FG pct.
New players--
Incoming freshman Alex Rubin- 6'1", 180 pound guard.
Transfer Sead Odzic- 6'3" 190 lb. guard, eligible at semester break. Shot 31% in freshman season at USC.
 
You're not wrong, DC. However, do you think they will improve since all of their key perimeter players (O, Dom and Boo) were first year guys? I think most of us project bigger and better things from players from year one to two.

I didn't say great. I thought about writing decent. I think 8-10 ppg is good. Each of them had some great games and each of them had some terrible games. Consistancy seemed to be a problem.

I think their new coach is going to have his work cut out for him after his first season.
 
just a thought.... do you think theron wilson was overlooked by schools because his team went 17-14 this past season? being able to finish a game and win is important but there is only so much one player can do for his team. also, i don't believe their team had a lot of height. could we be getting an exceptional player that was overlooked because of his average team?
 
Good thought. I don't have the answer. He seems like a solid kid, and nowhere have I seen anything to suggest hidden baggage. Sometimes the smaller schools back off a kid because they think he will go to a major school. And Theron was linked to Illinois, Louisville, Maryland, and several other BCS-type programs. But then if those big boys drop off, sometimes a kid like this can be left with fewer options than you'd think.
I think he's a steal to sign this late.
His numbers are better than Lawrence Wright's and Zach Andrews' were, and he played against maybe a little better competetion in the Jayhawk conference.
His numbers were far better than Charlie Coley and Wade Knapp, as well as most of the players ranked ahead of him.
I can't wait to see him play.

I do not know if the Bradley new guys will play in the Summer League, but if they did, I would predict record attendance for those games.
 
DC, are you talking about the summer league at the Riverplex, and if so, Do you know when that usually starts.

Man, I'm gettin anxious to see these guys already, and it's not even May yet.
 
The summer league start play in June, usualy around the 2nd or 3rd week. Last summer was the first year in many that the incoming Bradley players did not participate. I do not know whether they will play there this summer.

Only incoming players who have not yet enrolled for the fall semester and who have not previously played at an NCAA school are eligible. But this year that would include the 3 freshmen and all 4 jucos.

Actually as you can see, this is a game where Theron's Seward Co. team is playing against Barton County. Seward played against Barton three times during the season.
Seward won at their place (Theron had 14 pts, 16 rebs), Barton won at their place (Theron had 16 pts, 7 rebs), and the third time they played was in their Regional Tournament.

As you can see in the above picture......they are playing in a pretty awesome arena, and it is barely filled. This is Koch Arena, in Wichita (the home of the Wichita State Shockers) where the Regional was played.

In that game, Seward lost to Barton, 69-66 and Theron had 10 points, 9 rebs.

Does anyone know what he plays like? It doesn't sound like he has a good outside shot. He must be very energetic though to get so many rebounds. Do you think he plays like Marcus Pollard and Bobby Ford or is more of a driving big guard?
