Those refs...

Waiting for the stats on the game, but I feel like there were like 15 or 20 fouls called in the first half and it was pretty well called. Then the second half kicked off and I feel like there were 35-45 fouls called, and stepping on the ground got you called for illegal abuse of wood products. Was an amazing change and a hard game to watch in a way. They were very consistent inside of each half, but it was two completely different games in each half. After the first half, I was thinking that maybe we'd have a two-game well-called-by-refs streak going. Not so much.

I agree with this post. It seemed they let the guys play the 1st 1/2 and the 2nd on they wanted their imprint and started to call the game like typical MVC refs. What gives? Do they get paid by the foul or did someone from the MVC commissioner office call them at 1/2 to complain that there was not enough fouls called?

Braveman and I went to the game together. At the 15 min mark it was 5-0 in team fouls against BU...I said watch it will be tied or Evansville will be ahead by the 10 min. mark....I think it was 9-7 in BU's favor by the 10 min. mark! Just predictable! and ridiculous!

I wasn't at the game, but I wonder if the officials may have been influenced from conversations with the coaching staffs of both teams during halftime... Just a thought.... It happens from time to time...

that was a bad call but I'm sure Evansville fans thought they gor homered overall with us shooting 30some ft's.....it really disrupted the flow of the game

I thought that we got a big break on a blocking call when SamM drove to the basket late in the game... It looked like a charge to me.....

I thought it looked like it mighta been a charge to me as well... from my angle... but I didn't see a replay in slow-motion. (Amazing how often I can change my mind after I see a replay  ) Then I thought of the charge called on Theron earlier when he jumped diagonally away from a player that fell ...

:?:

Theron's call was a joke on replay and SM did get lucky but it really should have been a no call because the kid did flop. There was not much contact on that play. The TW call though was just a typical MVC ref call. Let the person get the call when they are directly under the basket???

Theron got called on a ridiculous over the back call when he basically outjumped 2 or 3 purple aces for the ball - it was a scrum & he truly had no advantage on that play other than the fact that he could leap.

We shot 37, they shot 28. But a number of ours were at the end when they had to foul, so it isn't like there was extreme home cooking on that front by any stretch.

Yeah, that was a bad one.

I agree with you......I'm saying more from there point of view......personally there were some called I wish they wouldn't have so the game would have flowed better but that's the way it is

I certainly don't mind a lot of fouls called as long as we keep shooting them at 81% LOL. If that had been another 50% at the line night, it would of been a big L in the column. Probably could of bumped it up to 83 or 84% but I think they lost concentration when the game was in hand.

This is why I have contended all along that BU needes to leave the MVC. The caliber of game officiating is the worst in the nation. Any conference we end up in would give us a better game to watch. We would not have to worry about some of the mystery calls we see both at home and on the road...

I didn't think the officiating yesterday was biased or favored either team, but there were a number of questionable calls, especially the usual several botched charge/block calls. I watch a lot of games, and nowhere else but the MVC do you ever see the charge foul called on plays where the offensive player gets to the basket with his athleticism and skill, scores, and has the basket nullified because an unathletic guard, who wasn't even trying to play defense, slides under the shooter, and flops onto his butt as the shooter comes down from the shot.
I wish the MVC would clean up these horrible faux charge fouls.
