Wow the Valley seems to be taking one step forward and two back.

Some of the moves I just don't understand like House leaving for more of an opportunity. He was a freshman and I thought he was supposed to be sort of a project. Next year is when he may have an opportunity. Maybe the coach told him he wasn't going to get much time. Other than that I don't get it.
 
For Williams...what's a school close to Cedar Rapids and not in the Valley??? Iowa? They are cleaning house and it's just down the road. That's the only one I can come up with where he would truly be significantly closer to home. Any ideas?


It's a shame because we really need to bottom of the Valley to perform well in pre-conference so it ups the value of our in-coneference games.
 
I agree, this is not good for UE or for the Valley.
Zach House was already on his 2nd school, he originally committed to Northern Illinois, then backed out and came to Evansville. He redshirted a year, then saw action in only 10 games this year. So if he transfers, he will lose a year of eligibility if he goes to another D1, so I expect he'll end up at a D2 or D3 school.
Darin Granger, a junior, never saw much court time despite being in his 3rd year at Evansville. He was a Steve Merfeld recruit, and played more last year, including 3 starts. He played in all 30 games last year, shot the ball well, and was UE's 3rd leading scorer with 8.0 ppg, including a career-high 26 points against UNI. However, this year, he only played briefly in 10 games, averaged 1.1 ppg, and never made a three-pointer all year. I would guess he will transfer to a lower level school like D2 or D3, since he has only 1 year of eligibility left.
Kaylon Williams is the surprising name on this list. He was named to the All-Freshman team this year, and was Evansville's 4th leading scorer, and would have been the leading returning scorer next year. He also lead the team in assists. In fact, he lead the entire MVC in assists per game.
The article says he has already dropped out of school. That does not bode well for a transfer to another D1 school. Probably he will end up at a juco for a year. Kaylon Williams was recruited strongly by Jim Les last year before committing to Evansville.
 
Evansville is now looking like they might be one of the absolute worst basketball teams in all of America next year. Yuck.
 
Evansville won't be moving up in the league next year, but I also don't know that they will be the worst team in the MVC.
They lost a lot, but they will have Bryan Bouchie, a transfer from Valparaiso, eligible next year. He is a pretty good 6'10 skilled big man who will have 3 years of eligibilty left if he stays out of trouble.

Evansville also has a pretty good freshman recruit coming in- Colt Ryan, a 6'4" sharpsooting guard from Batesville, Indiana, that I heard Bradley looked at. He should get a lot of playing time next season, and could make the All Freshman team.

Evansville is a D2 program, they have always been a D2 program, they will never be anything but a D2 program. They may be in a D1 conference but they are still a D2 program. I have always wondered why the valley met them with open arms when they decided to go D1. For the same reason as UNI, Mo St, and ISU I suspose...

Funny a D2 team has won the valley more recently than our cornerstone D1 program.
 
Yes, Evansville won the MVC in 1999, back when it was a much weaker conference. But then they went from 2000-2008 without a winning season. They made the NCAA just once in the time they have been in the MVC, and they were blown out in that only game.
I don't think anyone would take Evansville's record over the past 3 years, 5 years, 10 years, or 15 years over Bradley's, or anyone else's.
If Marty Simmons can put together a winning season, he should be COY.

Bradley fans should appreciate what we have. It's a lot easier, and more common for small, private, small-town midmajor schools to be like Evansville, than like Bradley.
 
Actually in 1999 - the MVC placed 4 teams in the tourney. SMS, EU, Ind. St, and Creighton. Creighton won one game, SMS was a sweet sixteen team. Also, Rodney Buford and Danny Moore would eventually play games in the NBA.

Valley may have the right amount of hype now, but back in the late 90's I believe the league was just as good or better. Parker, Moore, Buford, Hill, and Hudson all made NBA appearances, and every team was loaded with BCS style talent. Just more under the radar back then.

MVC sent only 3 that year. Indy St was 10-8 in the MVC that season finishing behind Bradley.

Indiana State did not make the NCAA in 1999.
