Tiger's Press Conference

Not defending the "girlfriends", because they knew he was married. But Cheetah knew he was married also and it didn't stop him.
 
I've never really understood why people view this with much other than the initial surprise factor - If we got this 'uppity' over every time someone cheated on their spouse, we'd never get anything done.

As for paying her, I don't really understand why you would feel obligated too. If they had been hitched then obviously laws regarding divorce are in order, but as a gf? I just don't get it. essentially, they has a relationship, it didn't work out, thats it. Like the vast majority of relationships it seems - you don't get paid for them.
 
I am not sure there was even a "relationship" between Tiger and this porn actress. It sounds like it was more of a business transaction. She was paid for her services already. Why does he owe her anything more?

TNel- do you think Tiger got her "services" for free?
I am confident she, and every other of Tiger's paramours were paid well for their services when they were with Tiger.

This porn actress knows the dates with Tiger are over now, so she is hoping to cash in one more time, like some of the others did to keep quiet.

Thank you! I can't take another "this is a major worldwide story that EVERYONE in the world is concerned about" tagline from my local sports talk radio stations! And even on the so-called "mainstream" news channels it's been nothing but "Tiger this and Tiger that!" Either Americans have really gone soft when it comes to more pressing issues or the mainstream "media" is trying to speak for everyone, and not even coming close to getting the story right.

I resent it that the media portends to be speaking for everyone. They aren't, and the proof of that is easy to dissect. All the local news stations need to do is to send out a reporter to find five schumcks off the street that actually care about this story, and it creates the impression that the entire population is riveted to what Tiger will say next! Again, one of many tricks that the media will use to manipulate people's opinions.

Now I will say I did listen to some of his speech on the radio. Now before people call me a hypocrite, I only listened to see how much sincerity Tiger would display at this "circus". I saw a guy who looked like at times that he was truly remorseful for what he did, and at other times looked like he was trying to promote his "brand". And I think it is important that people learn some lessons from him on how not to wreck a marriage and career! But aside from that I have pretty much shut the tv off since Thanksgiving anytime one of his many "subjects" have appeared on the news. And I personally don't care if he ever comes back to the game that made him famous, or whether or not he gets back together with his wife, though I don't get why she is even thinking of staying with him!

And finally, to those morons who think golf is dying without him, I have only this to ask: How did golf thrive before Tiger hit it big?! I don't know about anyone else, but I enjoy watching the tournaments even more without him! I hope he goes away or at the very least people reevaluate what's more important in their lives. I like entertainment as much as the next person, but for crying out loud people, put it in the proper perspective and quit acting like we all have a personal stake in Tiger's life!

Tiger is the greatest golfer ever. TV ratings suffer badly when he is not in the field...He made golf what it has never been before....The reason the PGA tour can up the purse money is because of the TV ratings Tiger has brought the the game.

You are saying no one cares? Millions tuned in to watch his press conference......

Tiger has always been a role model to me....because he can do things with a golf ball that no one else can.

1. The game does suffer when Tiger is not playing. It will never be what it was until he comes back.
2. Many people cared and were eager to hear his press conference.
3. I don't care about his wife....only if he comes back and dominates.

Oh, if you aren't an avid golfer or a golf fan...i don't see how you would understand. (not saying you aren't just saying)

Sorry. I didn't mean to imply that you or others who watched the press conference were morons. :D Sometimes I have to watch myself before labeling people a certain way, but I am passionate about this issue. :)

I still though stick with my opinion regarding this issue, though I will agree that PGA golf does indeed suffer when he is not playing. My point is that Tiger wasn't always there, and yes he has helped golf evolve into the jaggaurnaut it has become. But forget his "escapades" that nearly ruined his career and probably ruined his marriage for a minute. What is going to happen to the PGA once he retires? My point is that there will be another Tiger, or at least someone who might come close to his popularity somewhere down the line. We may already have heard of this person, or we may not as of yet. But golf will go on with or without him. Maybe the purses will go down in the interim, but the PGA certainly is not going anywhere. They will still make their money even with half the ratings. And the true golf fans, not Tiger fans, will stick with the PGA no matter what.

Now there is the other issue regarding people watching his press conference. As I stated before, I watched it too. My point is is that I don't get caught up in this constant obsession that the media and the tabloid tv shows have with this guy! This is NOT healthy for our society and to elevate Tiger as a "role model" just because he is good at driving a tiny ball into a tiny hole 500 yards away is silly. I'm as passionate a Bradley basketball and college basketball fan as the next person around here. But I do put things in proper perspective. Do I get very disappointed after a close loss? Absolutely, but I don't harp on these games since I do have a life aside from sports. And now the fact that this guy wrecked his family because he couldn't keep his pants zipped makes me even less likely to hold this guy up as a role model! Maybe he is a role model as a passionate guy who demonstrates the positive aspects of working hard to achieve his goals, but I'm sorry, I never hold athletes up on the same pedistal as what I would define as real role models. Especially athletes whose bad behavior could have a negative effect on how society views marriage and family.

My definition of a great role model would be my parents, God, the scientists and doctors who are constantly researching ways to combat diseases such as cancer and heart disease, and anyone else who actually takes the time to raise the quality of life for the rest of us. And I'd be much more inclined to hold up a Bradley basketball player as a role model if they represent the university in a professional manner and earn their degree rather than by how many points they score in a game!

I guess it's just myself trying to put things into a proper persepective. When I see people that are glued to a tv watching someone for hours on end that they don't even know personally, and one that has not conducted himself well lately as well, I guess I just scratch my head asking myself why.

I guess others see the role model in him from his foundations too.

This quote is one of the reasons that the PGA is going to suffer so badly when Tiger leaves. Everyone expects there to be someone waiting in the wings to pick the Tour up on their shoulders and deliver us from this debacle. But here's the problem: Tiger Woods is not a once-every-10-years player or even a once-in-a-generation player. He is a once-a-lifetime player.

To put things in perspective, Sam Snead leads the PGA Tour with 82 total wins (many, many of which came after his 40th Birthday). Tiger Woods has 71 at age 33. 71 professional golf tournaments in 13 years as a pro. Think about that. There is no one waiting around the corner that is going to shatter that record AND have the charisma and likability that Tiger has (used to have). Why do you think professional golf's purses have increased to 8-9 million per tournament? People come to see him.

As they said in "Happy Gilmore," golf used to require "goofy pants and a fat @$$." But since Tiger has come along, it's become cool -- or at least as cool as it's going to get. Those changes are irreversible and once people realize that there is no one besides Tiger, they aren't going to want to go back to cheering for the many second place finishers.

Well you're right in that there may not be another Tiger for a long time, but there will still be some young, charismatic and outstanding golfers that will eventually rise up to attract enough fans that the PGA will still be popular and profitable. Maybe not in the stratosphere of where Tiger was, but the PGA will still be around and still make plenty of money in the not too distant future.
