The little column here tells you just how far Bradley Basketball has fallen when a fan and grad from the 50's is saying that he thinks BU should drop to DII ball...

Something that as part of the perception needs to be fixed and fixed immediately...

Well, unless President Mouse wants the perception to become the reality

People say/think and suggest some dumb things when times are tough (except me of course) :)

I saw that letter. I guess we can cut that guy a little slack for being old, but that was otherwise an incredibly ignorant and borderline embarrassing letter. Doin' those BU degrees justice there pal.

Too stupid to really even justify a response.

The MVC is a very tough conference to play in. This Bradley team is bad, by Bradley's standards, but we're not DII quality bad (DII teams aren't bad for what they are, and DII ball is fun to watch). We would not be this bad in smaller conference in DI. Jackson State, who were able to beat, is 7-1 in the SWAC. I'd like to think this Bradley team could do the same in that conference. We shouldn't be dropped down, period. If we have 5-10 or so years of being this bad, maybe, but we've had a 20 win season just two years ago. We're having a down year, there's no doubt about that, but that comment is kind of dumb, in my opinion.

Can't believe the PJStar actually published this! Absolutely embarrassing. Sure, the Basketball team is having a down year, but what about the other athletics programs (Soccer and Baseball had a pretty dang good year if I recall)

It's about as dumb as the letter by a similarly-aged man a few weeks ago saying that Jim Les was the best coach in Bradley history. But we're talking about it, so I guess the PJ Star succeeded!

It was a good laugh to read that this morning to say that Bradley doesn't need to be in Division 1. I would comment on this but it would get deleted because I have no tolerance for ignorant people and that is what this guy is full of! IGNORANCE! Okay that will probably get deleted too, but hey it was worth a shot!

Actually, I didn't find it interesting as much as I found it embarrassing...

I really didnt feel that the argument was relevant but the more I think about it and look at it, we haven't had a top finish in mens basketball in quite some time and womens basketball I don't even need to discuss because I would've replaced her long ago...

And then you look at the other sports and the only real threat in the last few years has been soccer, otherwise BU has been getting beat up pretty badly by everyone in the conference...

While I don't agree that DII should happen, I do agree with the underlying tone of the article which is BU has been mediocre at best in athletics as a whole for quite some time and if you look solely at mens basketball, we aren't exactly doing our part in the heavy lifting of bringing the standard upwards...

I actually just used the article though to get some discussion going about how the perception is that Bradley isn't and hasn't been competing for championships in quite some time...

Just think for a minute...when was the last year that our basketball team still had a shot at a conference title into Feb?

Better check your recall. Baseball did not have a pretty dang good year.

I agree that the letter was an embarrassingly dumb letter (unless it was done as a prank letter). The writer suggests Bradley should drop to a lower level for the sake of the athletes. I have never met a single athlete who ever wanted to drop out of D1 and preferred to play at a lower level. If they did, they could easily have made the decision to go to a D2 or D3 school in the first place, or they could transfer at any time and be eligible immediately. So whatever reasons a school might consider for dropping out of D1 (usually financial), the reasons suggested by that writer were ridiculous.

Agree 100%.

Under the JL ERA BU has been mediocre...that is hard to argue. We've slipped a bit ABOVE it a few times and, until THIS year have avoided falling too far below that line.

We have had, IMO, small margins for error on both jumping above and falling below that mediocre line.

This year, for some reason, we have taken that horrible plunge falling, well about as low as we can possibly go. That wouldn't be so bad had we ever hit that ultimate high of winning the tourney and or a 1-2 finish in the regular season.

With all that said the program, for as low as we are, is still on solid footing. Whether Jim brings us back to mediocre and above or someone else has to give it a whirl I don't know but the program is not in shambles...this year is though.

BU moving to Div II for MBB is ridiculous :!: :!:

If BU goes 0-18 this season, Div III might be a better fit!

JUST KIDDING! Got to laugh, otherwise, I'll cry....

Basketball revenue pays for all the other sports and administration knows or should know that they would not get much in the form of attendance if they dropped D 1 basketball so what or whom would pay the bills.
