Good stuff... this will level off as the season goes and become interesting stuff for stat freaks.... (like me

I'm going to post this in several threads, so I might as well start here - David Collins needs more minutes. 12 on Saturday was unacceptable, 8 tonight was unconscionable. Our +/- with DC in the game is very, very POSITIVE. I trust the staff, but I just don't know what's keeping him off the court.

Right now I think it's JL that's keeping him off the court :-)

Sam Singh is playing well right now, and I don't think Jim wants to play Sam, Salley, or Collins at the same time. DC will get more time as the season progresses.

I think the main thing Jim likes better about Salley and Singh now is the screening. DC is not yet very good at setting the high screens that are such an important of the offense, while Salley and Singh are very good at it.

I don't know how to do it but I know they have a stat of +/- points for the team per minutes a player plays. It helps tell the story about if a team is better or worse when a player is in the game. I think JJ's + was very good the last 2 years.

I was wondering the same thing. I only got to watch the first half last night, but from what I could see (watching it on the mini bubraves.com screeen) DC came in with ISU leading 13-8 and ISU had all the momentum outscoring BU 13 to 3 after Bradleu scored the first 5 points of the game. DC's rebounding and scoring was the key to bring ISU back into check.

When I read the box score and saw he only logged 8 minutes, I was very suprised because he must hardly played in the 2nd half.

DC is an impressive player ... runs wells, nice shooting touch, big-time leaper / rebounder, big wing-span, athletic and 7 feet tall. He needs to work on some big man fundamentals, but he has all the tools to be a major force in the MVC.

I'm hoping that the DC playing time issue is resolved by Salley moving to the 4. I'd like to see SS and DC get the majority of time at the 5. I like Salley's game better than most, I think, but I like it best as a forward instead of a center. He just isn't tall enough to play center in the paint.

That is a very difficult personel issue on college basketball. Everyone wants to play 2 "big guys" in college hoops but it is real hard. The 4 man in college hoops is much more like the "swing" forward 20 years ago. He needs to be able to defend out on the floor (like a guard), hit a 3 when left open, and help vs. the press when the opponent is pressing. Defend a post player on a "switch." And of course get the weak side rebound. Some of the players I can think of: Matt Shaw, Kyle Wilson, Dane Watts. I love Sam, but asking him to guard Matt Shaw jout on the wing is a tall task.

I know who JL want to take over this position in time (Will Egolf)! IMO once Will gets comfortable at this position, we will get a lot better FAST.

Ryan Phillips had 2 points in 2 minutes today. Shouldn't he be averaging 40 per 40. ;)

You are correct.....I need to add in the guys that got their first playing time!

Lavin, Phillips, and Austin will be included, but I'm about to leave for the night and won't have a chance until tomorrow.

On second thought, maybe I'll include Austin in these numbers and keep the walk-ons separate. Otherwise, Lavin would be averaging 10 rebounds, 20 assists, and 20 turnovers. And I don't see the walk-on numbers changing too much as the season progresses.

Please do not add them. Just stipulate a minimum number of minutes. We don't need to skew the results. BTW, I love it when the walk-ons can contribute.

collins has some good production when he's out there, but he also picks up a lot of fouls, and even worse, turns the ball over waaaaaay too much.

How does Collins not lead the Turnover department, 7 TO's today Egaddddsss LOL. He's a force otherwide, 14 points and 10 boards on only 3 shots taken. Can't wait for him to be a full time player.

Jason

Hey, cut the kid some slack....
David Collins had a game that a lot of college kids can only dream of......10 pts, 14 rebounds.....IN JUST 18 MINUTES OF PLAY!
and a good defensive effort as well.
I doubt the seven turnovers are legit, as at least two of them were very tough passes that could well have been TO's on the guy making the pass, and a couple more were on plays where DC went for tough rebounds and loose balls, then lost the wrestling match with one of the opponents, so he was credited with a TO.
