Two-a-days?

I hope he keeps this up. He needs to demand the best performance night in and night out from these players and teach them toughness (if possible). If these guys can play like they were in the first 4 - 5 games of the season then I can see us turning around and having a respectable year.

However, if we keep playing like we have the last 3 games...watch out for Thursday night in the STL!

As another poster said either on this board or another...why do we always seem wait until crisis mode to do things like this? Why don't we or why can't we maintain a level of intensity and focus all of the time? I don't have the answer, I am just asking a question based on what we've seen over the past 8 years.

If only Thursday Night Pillow Fight was actually as good as it sounds.

Edit: maybe we can get the girls in B4L's avatar to provide halftime entertainment in the form of a pillow fight.

I, too, wondered why after the 3rd game? You would think practice would get much ramped up after WCU, then full-out after Loyola.

I suppose there are multiple reasons against full-time intensity.

I think Jim is/was so highly personally driven (don't tell me I can't play at BU, I'll scrap my way here via transfer. Don't tell me I'm too short/slow for the NBA, I'll make myself into a good enough long ball shooter to have a decent NBA career..) He probably mostly needed coaches to channel his energy into the correct direction, where others need someone constantly in their face just to get that energy going. I don't think that in-the-face coaching style is what he wants to be.

Given our injury luck, there probably is now a hesitation to force that issue too much in practice, too.

Guys without a game for a week and the guys splitting for a few days, two a days are not so brutal, especially if you love to play.:D

That's a good point. I think that explains why he waited awhile before going this route, but now it needs to be done. This is why I think they will do well this year, because they will not want to go through this again if at all possible! :D

Two a Days is fine as long as the team is not just running the same offenses and defenses , this would have been a good time to make changes on both the offense and defense. I would like to see an offense that has both Taylor and Milos at forward in it plus a defense that is constantly changing from man to zone to man press to zone press to half court trap, the best defense is the one the opposition is not expecting.

..I'm not so sure. Do you think the other team expects to have so many open 3 point attempts? ;)

With BU's luck, or more accurately, lack of luck, intense practices will only lead to more stress fractures, which BU must lead the NCAA in on a per player basis.

Intensity is one thing, understanding how to play defense, rebound, run the offense, and make shots is something completely different....

Perhaps simplifying things for his team will help their focus/success on execution...just a thought

I was thinking the same thing. I certainly don't want another injury. Warren is one slip up away from another stress fracture, SM's ankle isn't 100% and Brown has a couple arm ailments goin on. Lets hope this is some productive practice and not just screaming and running some hard laps.

After reading this I started thinking the same thing. Ronnie Wright is an intense guy who trains our guys HARD. We have had alot of injuries over the years including our share of stress fractures. One cause is lack of proper recovery time or rest following workouts. Has this ever been discussed? I have not heard much in the media this year about him.

How stupid does our 'toughness' montage look now? What about all the talk about 'being the toughest' we heard from the players prior to the season? Whether it's 'we hang our hat on our defense' or the toughness BS we heard earlier in the preseason, it is very disheartening that lip service has become a staple of this program.

I don't know what that make us. Some of our guys may not understand the difference between tough and strong. No doubt our guys have gotten stronger. You need to be at this level. What I'm getting at is does our intense workouts with Ronnie have a connection with our history of injuries. Is a lack of proper recovery time leading to some of these injuries.

I think it's valid question, but these injuries go all the way back to AP, and I don't think Ronnie was around back then.

I know some people used to blame the Fieldhouse floor for our frequent stress fractures, but that place has been gone for almost 2 years now. We've had 2 stress fractures since then, so I am not sure if that was a contributing factor.
