Two players quit team at SIU

I dont know about any additional penalty time for sitting out if you transfer within the conference but I do think that the person is not eligible to receive a scholorship. I can not ever recall a player transfering from one MVC school to another.

Curtis Stuckey from Drake to BU was one.

Did he have to sit out any additional time?

Roundtree's final list included SIU, ISU, SLU, Missouri, Purdue

"One thing I noted that shows the class of the BU fan base...
after nice wins (one was kind of a blowout - over SIU) I didn't see even one post or comment trashing the Salukis or the Shox.....all were civil and nice"

This is kind of true after the win but is a stretch beyond that. Shouldn't we all feel sorry for SIU and at least wish them the best as with the rest of the Valley teams instead of trashing their system and saying they deserve this? They are in complete meltdown. We should be grateful that we aren't there but a little more classy when talking about their terrible situation.

The only way a player can transfer to another school in the Valley is if SIU grants him a release ; if SIU does not grant this release he would have to sit out 1 extra year. Drake allowed Stuckey to transfer to BU , probably because he was from Peoria.

HTB you are right. There's no additional penalty but, you can never receive a scholarship. He would have to pay his own way for the remainder of his playing time.

According to the MVC by laws, there is an additional year of penalty. There is nothing that says the player can't receive a scholarship either:

4.2 INTRA-CONFERENCE TRANSFER
A student-athlete who has accepted or received an athletic scholarship award at a member institution of the MVC or who has participated in any intercollegiate contest as a member of that institution's team, shall be allowed to transfer to another member institution of the MVC with the following stipulations:
4.2.1 Participation in Student-Athlete's Sport. The student-athlete may not participate in the particular sport for a two (2)-year period from the official date of transfer.
4.2.2 Participation in Any Sport. The student-athlete may not participate in any other MVC sport for a one (1)-year period from the official date of transfer.
4.2.3 4-2-4 Transfer. The intra-conference transfer rule shall apply to a student-athlete who transfers from a Conference member institution to a two-year college and then to a certifying Conference member institution.

Royal Shock, I didn't see the mention of "revolt" til you pointed it out...
but the Shockers in 2007 didplay like there were internal issues.

Gregg Marshall definitely has them in the right direction. I really Like Toure Murray and Stutz had a good game against BU although we have had a history of defending big guys poorly.

also - devils - they are in meltdown mode...that's pretty much factual. But they brought it upon themselves, we didn't dump it on them or wish it upon them as you seem to suggest.
Note -again- as I pointed out...that a few here kinda saw it coming and spoke of it...but that's not the same as wanting them to fail.
I have thought for years that it is NOT something a coach should want to be doing to bring in a LARGE class of talented (maybe even overrated) kids all at the same time without some kind of plan as to how you are going to find them all playing time. If you have that many scholarships available, then redhsirt a kid or get a juco.
Instead, Lowery actually redshirted two from the year before (Evans & Bocot) which only added to the logjam of 1st year players he has now!

What is happening at SIU is the sign of the times. I believe coaches will have to change their recruiting style and pick players that truly will know their role and excel in the fact that they will have to work hard. This is truly the, me first generation and self adulation crowd from instant homer media, that the their psyches pampered and the ego of these guys will be so hard to check at the door. This could happen to JL but I believe he is purposely recruiting kids that have a team first personality. CL got blinded by all that talent and is hitting a speed bump. SIU will be fine and for those calling for his head are just posters/haters and probably do not have any insight to what is really happening.

agree-- as I said a player who is underrated is way more likely to stay despite unsatisfactory playing time than a highly rated kid who is overrated, since the kids tend to believe the hype and think they are too good to be sitting the bench even as freshmen.

and if you don't think the SIU boar5d is on meltdown, here's a post that the guy even admits their board is the "Three Mile Island" of message boards.

There you go, how could I forget the flat top of Stuckey.

I do not remember him sitting but the one year, and I probably am wrong about the scholorship, I would imagine he got one but that was what over 10 years ago.

Bocot really didn't redshirt though. I believe his grades didn't allow him to be eligibile.

I know that but when he came in 2007, CLo obviously knew he wouldn't play then and would be a newbie in 2008, thus part of that newcomer class.
Same with Evans.....that's too many kids coming in all at once, just like at IU, it simply doesn't serve you well....they won't win for you and then they get unhappy and leave.

Anyway - what do you make of the Redbirder's comment that he knows Roundtree is coming to ISU??
Is this who your guys want?? A kid who couldn't even keep the starting position and playing time that was handed to him, a kid who'll quit on you when things aren't handed to him?
Anyway -- how you gonna get around the rule that would require him to sit out TWO YEARS for intraconference transfer?

Anyway.....do you guys even have a scholarship?? I thought the last ride was going to Thornton and you still have Shipley & Mishler hoping to get one, and if you yank from someone else to give it to Roundtree, when he isn't even going to help you until late next year or the year after (2010!), what'll that do?

Anyway...just how many 2-guards can a team legally have .. ;)
I think ISU is already 2 over the limit on shooting guards......:-o

I'm going to be kind of heartless on this one. We have been wanting to be one of the top teams in the Valley for a long time. Since I have been here SIU and Creighton have always been at the top. SIU seems to have fallen. And the spot they have held has opened up. Next year we are supposed to be really good. If we take advantage of it, this could be the break our program needs.

Roundtree will end up at SLU or Missouri , too much red tape to go thru in order to play at ISU as I doubt that SIU would ok his transfer to another Valley school. Too many high school stars think that they can come right in and play as freshman in college not realizing what a huge step up it is to play on a good college team.

I think JL ran in to some of the same problems with some of the kids he recruited the last two years who left us or were lost for various reasons. He corrected those mistakes and I think will bring BU an MVC Championship within 2 years.

I doubt he ends up at SLU. Their offense is really no different than SIU's.

Your probably right about a transfer to ISU or another MVC school.

Missouri runs quite a bit. That might be a good spot for him.

Roundtree will have a hard time playing at any decent school I would suspect. He could not crack the line up of a very average team, quit because he was not playing, was not playing probably because he did not want to play D and I cannot imagine a coach with a good team saying, "We need him!"
