UNI-St. Mary's

I'm watching it right now, I'll only be up for about 20 more minutes or so, I'll try to get a few updates in, mostly starting this for those of you who are up that want to talk about the game! Just came on ESPN, 15:48 to play No. Iowa yet to score.

I'm rooting for a Valley team, hahaha sorry I actually dropped off when I realized I could watch North Korea vs. Japan on sportlemon. They're in Pyongyang, the crowd is ridiculous. If NK scores, the place is going to fall down. They've got this weird human video board (like the mass games) taking up the entire West stand. I'm asking my friend for a translation after the half.

SO Back to MVC Basketball, I see we've got a 26-13 score for Saint Mary's, odd score for a half of basketball, low scoring, but I think UNI's players are tired.

UNI couldn't throw the ball in the ocean right now from the deck of a ship at sea. Panthers are shooting 21.4% for the game and just 1-9 from 3. Gaels close out the half on a 19-4 run.

I saw the first half before falling off asleep..
but UNI just lacks what Kwadzo gave them -- toughness and great point guard play..

Too many times someone on UNI just tried taking it one-on-one..
They had only 7 assists all nite, equalled by just ONE St. Mary's player - their tough PG Dellavedova
I thought Anthony James was one of the better players in the Valley - but he was the proverbial ball hog last night -- dribble, drive, and shoot - all night long..
1 for 15 shooting and only one assist!

Can't take this game seriously, St Mary's playing at midnight - 2am and UNI playing 2am - 4am Iowa Time on the West Coast.. What a disservice to the kids to be playing these ridiculous games for the benefit of ESPN's overnight ratings...

I agree. they really take the word student out of student athlete when they schedule this stuff. Unfortunately it's the only way schools like ours can get on national tv.

and don't get me started on these BCS bowl games. Letting Ohio St. players play in a bowl game for the "integrity of the game." How about the "integrity" of the school, how they compose themselves and the academics.

not true -- the game started before 1AM here - so it was just 11PM there -- and every college kid is just getting going at 10 or 11PM - that's the peak of their biorhythm!
Anyway you look at it - it's still a bad loss whenever you lose by 20 anywhere

Yes, a bad loss, but the ODU win helps their cause if they can improve down the line. Don't know about you, but when I was in college, I wouldn't have energy to play a pick-up game at 1 AM...maybe video game, but that is extremely late.

From what I've heard from some UNI fans, there a big hole in post play this year, as the general fan could have expected anyways.
I was thinking they'd be the #3 team in the Valley this season, but I think that Indy St. has better frontcourt players. Then again, I don't believe ISU-blue will finish in the Top 3 anyways. So #3 team? Who knows at this point - Evansville who hasn't finished Top 4 in over a decade?
Missouri St. with a bunch of newbies and unproven players?
Illino...oh, never mind...I had a flashback 4 years ago - sorry!

Anyways, despite the Valley's early quality wins, the majority of teams are either short on depth, or lack post offense.
I really think Creighton has the upper-hand on everyone with their depth and strong post-play.

First troublesome result for the upper level Valley teams this year. In the end, it's probably asking them too much to sweep @ODU and @St Mary's, so this isn't the disaster it seems on the sufrace. But this removes most of the margin for error for their upcoming homestand.

The fact that they did split these two games though will help them greatly during tournament selection time, assuming the finish high in the Valley standings. Winning one of the two is certainly better than losing both. Sure they did not win both, but I don't think it will hurt them too much

I think the MUCH more troubling result in the Valley this year so far is SIU losing to Ohio Dominican! Wait until they start play actual competition! It won't be pretty!
