UNI's Adam Koch named POY

Only because he plays for the first place team IMO. How did OE get any votes? I like his game but he has a teammate who is more deserving then him. I thought leaving off TB from honorable mention could be because of his suspensions. Leaving DSE off is a crime though IMO. Hopefully they will use it to fuel the fire Friday and onward.

Oh well, it is a team game and let's see what our team can do, start Friday. It is a new season and in reality we need our guys to play like 1st team players now, anyway.

Well, being the best player on the best team counts for something. Unless a guy statistically blows everyone else in the league out of the water, I don't think there's a lot to argue about with the selection. Was Adam Emmenecker the best player in the MVC a few years ago? No way. But he was the most valuable player on the best team.

And I agree with your last statement. Team awards mean diddly poo (to quote the great Jim Mora Sr.). They don't garner NCAA bids. Winning the weekend does.

I agree BB. I thought though that Adam was deserving of his award. He did all the little things that never show up in the box score that win games. He made everyone around him that much better. So IMO Adam was the best player in the MVC a few years ago. Maybe not the most talented or athletic but the best!

I wish they would change the name of this award to MVP instead of Player of the Year. IMO, it is an embarrassment to the MVC to name slightly above average players and athletes like Emmeneker and Koch as their "POY. To me the POY is the best player, not the guy who is Most Valuable. Their are several other players in the MVC who are more Outstanding Players (of the year).

Koch's winning of the Player of the Year is an embarrassment to the MVC. He doesn't finish in the Top Ten of any statistical category of importance (scoring, rebounding, assists, steals or blocks) and he's the POY?

Egleseder was a much more logical choice, but it would have been too much of an embarrassment for the MVC to give the award to a person charged with DUI. Thus, we're stuck with a second level player getting the award. If they keep awarding it to players like this, Larry Bird should ask to have his name removed from the award.

The MVC has usually had POYs with limited talents, or who were overachievers, or one dimensional players.

Remember Booker Woodfox? (2009 POY)
Remember Adam Emmenecker? (2008 POY)
Remember Jamal Tatum? (2007 POY)
Remember Paul Miller? (2006 POY)
Remember Darren Brooks? (2004 & 2005 POY)

Remember Steve Green?

None of the recent MVC POY's has had much success in the pros

This is a true statement. Paul Miller was the only one recently to get to the NBA. He appeared in 5 games in 2006-07, and hasn't appeared since.
