Update on Rienk Mast

Nebraska's Rienk Mast has not yet made any comment regarding transfer vs return to Nebraska,
but this morning there's one comment from a Husker fan site saying..
"Hearing it may be a knee/surgery issue and not as much about a transfer"

Rienk Mast still has one season of eligibility left. But he had not made any decisions about returning to Nebraska for his final (Covid) season.
As Bradley fans recall, Rienk transferred to Nebraska with the intent of playing at a higher level in the Big Ten to prepare him for a pro career, G-League or in Europe. However, unfortunately, Rienk's left knee, the one he had his ACL repaired in the Netherlands in the summer of 2019, prior to coming to Bradley, has been giving him more problems as this past season progressed. He has been undergoing tests, and today, he announced he would undergo another surgery, probably to reconstruct the previous repair so his knee will get healthy. He would not be able to return to playing until late next season, at the earliest, so he has chosen to sit out the 2024-25 season with plan of returning and playing again in 2025-26 for his final season at Nebraska.
Good luck and get well soon, Rienk!

Hard situation to know you need surgery and have to sit out a year, but if he is set on playing the game professionally post-college, he will have to do this no matter what. He is going to be quite the veteran by the time his eligibility is exhausted.

Rienk already took a medical redshirt year his freshman season at Bradley. So he will need to apply for a waiver from the NCAA to be granted another one. But the NCAA has recently been pretty generous about such waivers when it involves a new or different injury. And also since it is his Covid year he is requesting the waiver for, which the NCAA granted everyone who played in 2020-21.
