Eastern Illinois was a 32.5 point underdog. They shot 60% overall, and 40% from three (they were at 27.6% for the season), and outrebounded Iowa.
Congratulations to Marty Simmons in his second season as EIU's head coach.

Iowa was 8-3 (now 8-4) and is ranked #27 in NET. Their losses have been to TCU (9-1), #15 ranked Duke (10-3), and in overtime to Wisconsin (9-2).
EIU was 3-9 (now 4-9), and #350 NET, but they were only 1-9 against D1 opponents. One win was over St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, a tiny NAIA college in Indiana, and another is over Blackburn College, a even tinier (590 students) Division III school in Carlinville, Illinois. Their only D1 win was over IUPUI, which is 1-10 against D1 opponents and is NET #360.

In addition to Eastern Illinois, another Ohio Valley Conference team pulled a big upset tonight.

SIUE, who Bradley beat 56-54 in Edwardsville, came back from an 18 point deficit midway through the 2nd half to win in the final seconds. SIUE was a 16 point underdog. They are now 9-4.

Do you wonder why Big 10 schools don’t want to play mid-majors? Yeah, EIU.

It's not just Big 10 schools, but all the Power 5 conference schools and other schools that perceive that the mid majors do not deserve to be on their court. It's difficult for successful mid majors to even get on their schedule. I remember when Bradley was invited to play at Duke, under Geno Ford. It wasn't competitive or of any interest to basketball fans. So, congratulations to EIU and SIUE.

That Duke game was in Dec 2010-Jim Les’s final year as coach. The year we lost Sam Maniscalco and Taylor Brown for the year. It was a beat down at Duke.
