Valley Recruits

Drake gets a commitment from Jaehshon Thomas, a 6'2" junior guard transfer from Charlotte. He played 2 years at Florida Southwestern College prior to this past season at Charlotte. He prepped at Chicago Whitney Young HS. In 2024-25, he averaged 9.5 ppg, 3.3 rpg, and 1.3 apg. Shot 42.0% overall, and 36.8% from three.

Murray State gets another portal transfer- Javon Jackson, a 6'3" junior guard from UIC. Murray State will be his 4th college in 4 seasons. He started as a freshman at Division II Southern Nazarene University in Okalahoma in 2022-23. Then he played at Utah State in 2023-24. Then at UIC in 2024-25. And in 2025-26, he is committed to play at Murray State. This past season at UIC, he started 29 of 31 games, and averaged 11.6 ppg, 1.9 rpg, and 2.7 apg, and he shot 30.6% from three.

Valparaiso lands a big man transfer, and it is a player that Bradley had some recruiting contact with a few weeks ago.
Shon Tupuola- a 6'9" sophomore F/C at NAIA St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, a small private Catholic school located just outside of Terre Haute, Indiana. He went to Brownsburg HS in Indiana, and was not highly recruited. But this past season as a sophomore at SMWC, he averaged 14.5 ppg and 12.2 rpg. His field goal percentage was a whopping 71.3% from the floor. UIC gets another portal transfer- Sam Silverstein, a 6'6" junior G/F from Cal Baptist will join UIC as a grad-transfer. He played 2 seasons at Harvard, and then transferred and played 2024-25 at Cal Baptist. This past season as a junior at CBU, he averaged 4.0 ppg and 5.8 rpg. He is originally from Glencoe, Illinois, and attended New Trier HS.

Sam Silverstein has an interesting story. He attended Harvard for 4 years, but only played in 2 seasons, 2021-22 and 2022-23. His first year, 2020-21 was cancelled due to Covid. And he decided to take a redshirt year in 2023-24 to focus on his studies. He graduated from Harvard in 2024 with 2 years of eligibility left. He left Harvard and played 2024-25 at Cal Baptist, and now will play his final year at UIC.

And Tulsa transfer Isaiah Barnes, a 6'7" junior F/G has committed to Valparaiso. He spent 2 seasons at Michigan and 2 at Tulsa. He has one season remaining due to a redshirt year his first season at Michigan. He was a 4-star recruit out of high school, and he played his senior season at Chicago Simeon Academy. wow, the Valley hasn't seen a guy with these numbers in a while....324 3-pointers attempted is way, way more than anyone in the MVC took last year and led all of DII and DIII.
I believe it's even more than the all time record for 3-pt attempts in the MVC that Isaiah Swope set last year.
And his 433 total total shots attempted (avg 13/game) is roughly what the Valley scoring leader (Stirtz) put up - and yet, Shorter didn't even lead his own team in scoring. And I guess as much as the ball must have been in his hands with all those shots going up he surely must have racked up a lot of assists as well, right?
(no, he had only 35 assists total all season.)
Did Grinnell recruit him?

He was the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a 3rd team All-NEC selection as a senior. As a freshman, he averaged 8.4 ppg, 2.7 rpg, and 3.0 apg. He shot 39.6% overall and 35.6% from three. looking at his stats, he had an awesome game when JSU beat Western Kentucky, 14 pts, 9 reb, 7 asst and just 1 turnover.
