Valley Rosters

Most of the MVC teams have their web rosters done or nearly done...only a couple of the Valley schools are slacking on their web updating...
I applaud all those who have done such a good job!!

Here's what we have.....

Bradley's roster is complete with all the new players....really great job

Creighton doesn't have their roster updated since last year.
http://www.gocreighton.com/SportSelect.dbml?SPSID=89384&SPID=69&DB_OEM_ID=1000&KEY=&Q_SEASON=2008

Drake likewise has their 2009-2010 roster nearly completed...good job!

Evansville has theirs fully updated with all the new guys, although they don't have numbers designated...good job!

Illinois State does have their updated roster on their site, but it is labelled their 2008-2009 roster. Come on guys get this corrected!

Indiana State has their completed 2009-2010 roster up but all the new guys have no numbers designated.

Missouri State has their complete 2009-2010 roster up including all the new freshmen and juco guys...Great job!

SIU does not have their 2009-2010 roster up yet

I don't mean to come on the BU board and cause any trouble.....but, how is Bradley's complete and Drake's only "nearly completed"? I see 4 new players on Bradley's roster without bio's.....the only player on Drake's roster without a bio is a freshman walk-on. There are also two players on Drake's roster without uniform numbers (one is a walk-on, the other a transfer who can't play this season). I'd say Drake's is more complete than Bradley's.

The bios are a different page...and Bradley has already published the new guys' bios in their summer prospectus
Nope...the Bradley roster is complete with all players having uniform numbers and listed with height & weight.... Drake's is not.
Two guys who are listed on the Drake roster have no numbers, and their weights are not listed, as if maybe nobody knows yet.

This may explain why Creighton's roster isn't complete....

Just read an article in the Omaha World Herald that two of the incomnig Creighton kids are having trouble and not yet qualified...

"Darryl Ashford and Greg Allen have yet to report as they take care of academic issues.
Altman declined to comment when asked if he's concerned that either Ashford or Allen might not be able to clear all of their academic hurdles.
“That's their business,'' he said."

http://bradleyfans.com/vb/showthread.php?t=12320

and with SIU-- could be the something similar...plenty of discussion about one or more of their players being suspended to start the season....

Speaking of qualified...
The most recent date of tests, June 13, the SAT tests were administered.....

Those scores are now available and can be obtained by anyone who took the June exam...
http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/reg.html
http://www.collegeboard.com/

so.....for anyone yet to get qualified, then surely by now they know their scored from the June test date, and if they aren't going hog-wild with elation, then it is because they still did not pass the test...
Here is a discussion about Indiana's top incoming recruit Maurice Creek...
He was said to be waiting only for his June SAT score and then all would be hunky-dory and he'd be qualified.
Tom Crean has said so many times, and this story says they are getting a bit nervous...
http://www.idsnews.com/basketblog/?p=2487

I also don't hear a lot coming from the John Wall camp, as he was said also to be waiting for this June score.
Lastly, Indiana is still waiting on word of Bawa Muniru, their 7-ft incoming center, who was originally a Class of 2007 recruit, then 2008, then 2009 as he did an extra year of high school, then even one more year of prep school.
Now he is said to still need moreclasses to qualify....so just what is it that cannot be completed in six years of high school, that the kid is going to get done now in July of 2009?

SIU has updated their roster as part of their 2009-2010 prospectus
http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/silu/sports/m-baskbl/auto_pdf/CoSIDA09.pdf

Indeed Drew Barham is not listed, so I guess we can take this as official confirmation
that he has backed out of his commitment to SIU.
But-- there are rumbles that SIU is not going to let him out of his scholarship, thus he can't play anywhere else,
unless he goes to prep or juco...
The Memphis people think he will walk on at Memphis this fall
http://ncaabbs.com/showthread.php?tid=376262
(but if you are a Saluki fan don't scroll down and read the rest of this link, as it'll embarrass you a bit
as a couple SIU people try to knock down Memphis with some pretty paltry insults on the Memphis board!)
it is a little embarrassing that a scholarship player at SIU decides he'd rather walk on elsewhere...

Also, Aaron Moise & Caleb Long are listed, they are walk-ons.

ISU still has not corrected their roster page and they continue to list it as 2008-2009.

Creighton still hasn't updated their roster page.

Are you referring to Tony Lewis or this Barham kid?

ouch two digs in one post. Barham potentially walking on at Memphis doesn't hurt as bad as it may seem. He grew up a Tiger fan and wanted to play there the whole time. It's better for SIU to have kids that want to be in Carbondale as opposed to kids who think they have no other options. Lewis, on the other hand, is a whole different situation. That one actually stung quite a bit.

I am unaware of Tony Lewis was leaving ISU where he has a scholarship and walking on somewhere else...is he????
... I am referring to Barham who accepted a scholarship offer to SIU and has a scholarship committed to him ..but he wants to rather walk on at Memphis.
For some reason, SIU is apparently NOT releasing him from the scholarship, and there's little being made public about what's happening.

Not meant as a dig at all. Sorry if you took it that way. I was just trying to clarify. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the SIU program and what they've meant to the Valley.

Oh no worries Danny. Lewis chose to walk on at ILSU instead of taking a scholarship from SIU, and as the old saying goes, the truth hurts. I didn't think you were taking pot-shots at SIU.

No scholly for Lewis at ISU. At least not this season. No he's not leaving.

Lewis had a full ride offer at SIU and passed on that to walk-on at ISU for this season. I thought that was who you were referring to in your previous post. Lewis doesn't have a scholarship for this upcoming season. He would have had one at SIU. I thought you were well aware of this? I thought you guys here at BF broke this story first? My memory is shot. haha

SIU offered Lewis a schollie but he chose to walk on at ILSU instead.

now it appears to be a bit closer to solved...although still nothing official....
a guy on one of the Memphis message boards is reporting that Drew Barham is now enrolled and taknig classes at Memphis and will walk on there this fall.

uh, oh....bad news for the ISU walk ons...tuition hike
that's more than $1100 more in costs for the average student at ISU

Two words......FINANCIAL AID.

Hard to believe that any of these kids come from rich families where their parents are expected to make a financial contribution to their education. In some respects, being able to take out a student loan will put more money in their pockets than these guys would have being student athletes.

When you consider the avg. schollie covers Tuition & Fees, Books, and Room and Board (which includes meals). These guys don't have a lot of expenses after basketball. Or from what I've personally witnessed, THEY DO but cannot take out loans of any kind because the University doesn't see any financial need present when they're getting everything paid for as athletes. The university even provides them with clothing (athletic gear, shoes, shirts, shorts, sweats).

And in the off-season they even get help getting jobs. I'll just leave that last thought to your own imagination.
