Wade Knapp and Charlie Coley

Da Coach

While Charlie Coley tours Bradley and Peoria, his juco teammate Wade Knapp was scheduled to visit Missouri State this weekend. He had visited Nevada last weekend and Bradley the week before.

But, I have heard a rumor that he cancelled his trip to Missouri State, and stayed home this weekend. The report from Springfield is that he was concerned about the weather.

Nevada is putting on the full court press for Knapp now, because the other power forward prospect they were recruiting, a juco named Anthony Brown from Carl Albert College in Oklahoma, is now reported to be short of credits and may not graduate. The other jucos Nevada had been recruiting have all signed elsewhere, leaving Knapp as perhaps the only viable option for them.

The posters on the Missouri State bulletin board had believed they were the leader for Knapp, but this development puts some doubt in that.

Here is the latest article reporting that Charlotte coach Bobby Lutz has been offered the South Alabama job at around $300,000 a year for 6 years. He is said to be mulling it over.
http://charlotte.com/456/story/84656.html

These developments appear to favor Bradley's chances for Coley and/or Knapp. Could they both want to come to Bradley?

WOW.....WK's weather issue might be weather or not to come to BU!  I am surprised after reading the MS fans statement of an asst coach having ties to WK and they all but had him locked-up......might be between nevada and the Braves! 8)

I hope CC is having a good time....keep him inside for this unusual weather we are having....cold and rain....it's so unlike Peoria this time of year? :-o

According to someone close to the Missouri State program, Wade Knapp has rescheduled his visit to Missouri State for Thursday and Friday of this coming week.

Coley is a FREAK

Coley is a FREAK

Coley is in Charlotte this weekend and I have not picked up much of anything from the Charlotte message board about his visit. Their message board is nothing compared to BradleyFans.com (thanks Coach,Tornado, and all of the posters for doing such a great job!)

Unfortunately, his visit is coming on a perfect Carolina weekend -- Sunny, Carolina Blue skies, everything in full bloom. You couldn't ask for any better enticements -- it's why I moved to Carolina over 15 years ago. Let's just hope Coley has bad allergies. If you've been in The Carolinas this time of year you know what I mean.

I did find some good info (though dated) on Coley off the UNCC message board that I thought I'd pass on to the best college basketball message board:

Dodge City, Kans., Charlie Coley
Posted Jan 4, 2007 by College Coaches Network
When he arrived in Dodge City, Kans., Charlie Coley didn???‚¬?„?t immediately feel right at home.
But right away he sensed that it would be different - much different - than his hometown of West Palm Beach, Fla. The bright lights and glitz of West Palm Beach and the warm weather of Florida gave way to a quiet town in western Kansas most noted for Boot Hill.
???‚¬?“I didn???‚¬?„?t look at it as a second chance,???‚¬?? said Coley, who came to Dodge City because of academic difficulties. ???‚¬?“I saw it as my next step. It???‚¬?„?s been a good place for me. The town is so small that everyone knows you by your name. They know you as a person not a number.???‚¬??
Lately, everyone seems to know about Coley.
From his fellow students at Dodge City Community College to the townspeople of Dodge City to juco followers in the hoops-crazed state of Kansas to, most importantly, four-year college coaches, Coley has been a big hit.
Why, even Kansas, a school not noted for recruiting two-year school players, has shown interest in Coley. His solid play as a freshman has given way to being one of the best players in the national juco ranks as a sophomore.
Part of Coley???‚¬?„?s appeal comes from a 41-inch vertical leap, that after some conditioning and lifting weights, according to Dodge City assistant coach Brady Trenkle.
???‚¬?“There is no question it could be higher,???‚¬?? said Trenkle. ???‚¬?“What puts him over the edge of a lot of athletes is the fact he can jump off one or two legs where you see a lot of athletes can only do one or the other, but not both.???‚¬??
???‚¬?“I played hard last year, but this season I think I am playing a lot better," said Coley. "Now the game seems easier. I talk more to my teammates when I am on the floor now and it has made a big difference.???‚¬??
???‚¬?“He has the unique ability to influence a game at both ends of the floor,???‚¬?? said Dodge City Coach Brian Hoberecht.
Not bad for a guy who wasn???‚¬?„?t even on major colleges' radars when he came out of high school. While several jucos, including Indian Rivers, Miami Dade and Palm Beach showed him some interest from within Florida, Dodge City was the only out-of-state juco to recruit him, he says.
???‚¬?“We knew he could be great, and we knew he had the right mind set to get better,???‚¬?? said Trenkle. ???‚¬?“He wanted to improve at everything when he first got here. You could see the hunger in his eyes to succeed on and off the floor. The thing that impressed us the most was that he was such a great young man. He was very nice to everyone and he always had a smile on his face.???‚¬??
Some questioned his shooting out of high school, but Coley hit 45 per cent of his threes as a freshman and the fact, says Trenkle, ???‚¬?“that he can run and play all day was refreshing to us as coaches.???‚¬??
Miami Dade, Fla. assistant coach Matt Eisle says he heard good things about Coley from high school and college coaches.
???‚¬?“He is an extremely talented young man with a great deal of upside,???‚¬?? said Eisle. ???‚¬?“Charlie is probably the most athletic basketball player at the junior college level.???‚¬??

In the player???‚¬?„?s words ???‚¬?“I like it here (in Dodge City). The town is so small that everyone knows you by your name.???‚¬??

Gillispie's current UK recruiting board

Wildcats Thunder Football and Recruiting Analyst

We believe Gillispie has three more scholarships to offer in this class, but that number could increase to four under certain (relatively unlikely) circumstances. You will read a lot of names in the next week on the internet. I believe Gillispie's actual board looks something like this:

Charles Bronson, C, 6'11" 240#, Redlands CC, OK
Charles Coley, F, 6'7" 220#, Dodge City CC, KS
Jai Lucas, G, 5'9" 150#, Houston, TX
Anthony McClain, C, 6'11' 220#, Ft. Washington, MD
Pat Patterson, C, 6'8" 220#, Huntington, WV
*Steffphon Pettigrew, F, 6'5" 220#, Elizabethtown, KY
Isaiah Rusher, C, 6'8" 230#, Houston, TX
Dustin Scott, F, 6'8" 215#, Tallahassee CC, FL
Danny Tavares, F, 6'8" 210#, Ventura CC, CA

A Question for Mr. Coley

A Question for Mr. Coley

This question is for Charley Coley's father (if he monitors our board):

Where would a father rather have his son go to school?

1) A public university that is really known for nothing, and with 22,000+ students and a tuition of less than $4,000 in a big, sprawling city, or

2) A private liberal arts university considered one of the best in the midwest, with around 5,000 students and a tuition of $22,000 in a small basketball-only town

:?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

Which offers your son the better value, quality of life, and future employment opportunities?!

(Oh, and our coach has NBA experience and is "wanted" by the university and town. You can't say the same about Lutz at Charlotte, or most any other coach or university that your son is looking at)

It's time for Charley to come home to BU! :D

Yes...maybe JL could describe BU as, oh I dunno a Ferrari and the other place....nevermind 8)

CC...you could and will shine at BU. We WANT you to join out family. Once a Brave ALWAYS a Brave. You'll see what it means quickly.

I can attest to that. I went to Hilton Head a couple of years ago and couldn't wait to get home! I had a white car, but by the time I left it was orange because of the pollen. The worst case of sinus trouble I have ever had!

Is there still a chance at both guys? Does anyone know if we are recruiting one more or two? If this is a question that shouldn't be asked, just tell me to shut up!

Nothing real important as I doubt any of the guys will be at WSU next year....

But Coley, Knapp and Matthews from Dodge City CC all took unofficial visits to WSU this last week also. Most feel Knapp is the reason as both Turgeon and Marshall were recruiting him....how heavy I don't know.

The "2007 Recruiting Assessment (as of 3/30/07)" on the Charlotte board thought they had something of a chance to land David Collins.

Those still open (that we HAVE OFFERED):

Coley/other recruits

Coley/other recruits

I really thought we would have heard something by now about one of the recruits. Either to Bradley or some info about a visit at the other schools. Maybe it's a good sign that we are waiting to hear from the one we want the most and the other recriuts are still waiting. Time will tell. I just hope that if it's not a very good recruit we wait until next year so we have another scholorship for either Roth, Shumpert, Pomlee, Green, or Buycks.

I think we'll hear about Coley soon. He had his visit to Charlotte this weekend. So far it doesn't sound like he's committed to them, so we still have a chance.

Coleys coming to Charlotte!

And it was confirmed by a second poster. Still unofficial with no clear, definitive proof.

Far from official confirmation, but there is a poster on the Charlotte board with over 4,200 posts on their board that says he's "hearing the same thing". :(

edited to add: and the original poster is said to have a "very deep insider".
