Wait till next year.....

Thank you. Great post!

I'm getting REAL tired of some of the pessimism around here. And not because of how we lost the other night. That was disappointing. But I'm talking about how some here are writing off the season already. Please! That's not what the players and coaches need to be hearing right now with so much of the season left.

The NIT is still within reach, and the NCAA's are not out of the question either. Let's support the team when they need the support the most.

If the players or coaches are trying to figure out how to assess their team by turning to a BU fans message board with a bunch of goofballs like us bickering with each other ...then we've got much, much bigger problems as a team than any of us could possibly understand.

I think some of you give this board way more credit for affecting people within the program than it could possibly deserve. Do some within the program read this board? I'm sure they do...but I highly doubt that anyone loses any sleep over the fact that a bunch of nameless, faceless internet entities are saying negative, positive, or otherwise things about the team. If so, they are wasting a lot of energy on meaningless things that could be better served elsewhere.

This team is very, very well supported on gamedays and elsewhere in the community. That's the support that matters...

My statement was basically directed to the posters here, but some who read the posts here come away with the impression that we are not supportive of the team and those kind of feelings eventually spread to others. So while I was upset that some here are writing off the season, I'm not saying that the average Bradley fan thinks the same way. But I'm sure some players and coaches read this forum and I don't think they feel too happy reading some of what is written here. Just trying to keep things positive here, that's all.

I think you underestimate how much those within the program browse this board "just trying to get a feel".

It's read - but how much emphasis do they put on what they do to please us (fans on boards like this) is very minimal (and maybe they don't care).

But they do read.

This WAS our year if we had a healthy team. There's no question about it now. League play is over halfway over and I am certain we'd be the champs this year had we had AW and WE....not to mention the if's about JW. The year we could win we don't because of injuries...it's ridiculous. Waiting till next year? I don't see much good in that. I think we will be a good team...a better one...but I don't see us winning the league next year with other teams also having young players and developing them. In general I think the valley will be better next year but it won't be just because Bradley's young team is now more experienced. It'll be even tougher to win the valley next year with the projected better team. What it will come down to is how our freshman shape up over the off-season, how AW and WE come back, how AT can play, how our seniors step up (DD and CR), and how much of an impact our freshmen make because I have a suspicion we will need it again next year to be successful. Once again (just like last off-season) there are a lot of question marks. The year after that though the MVC should be damage...especially Bradley.

I'd like to see a conference championship every 5 years and an NCAA bid every other year.

Is that asking too much?

I can live with that. And I'd also imagine if there's no conference championship in the next four years we'll have a new coach. It might not be my choice because I like Coach Les and the way he runs a clean and classy program with intelligent kids....But I also know how fickle some of the "powerful" alums can be.

I agree with you -- I'd love that, too. But not winning the conference championship this year doesn't make it a bust.

I look for improvement. I'd consider it a success and improvement (although maybe underachieved) if we end at 2nd or 3rd. With 4th or 5th we would simply be stagnant. Can't consider whether the Valley is up or down... it will change every year, never to be predicted.

the conf. champ every five is not too much but the NCAA every other probably is...close to every three or four...then once we get there shoot for every other year

I think our opportunity to get into the tourney this year is just about as good as it was the last time we went.Of course we have to win in the Lou but there are no dominant teams. Even UNI is not as dominant as Drake was last year IMO.
It won't be easy but somebody has to win 3 games down there...it may as well be us

So you think this team underachieved? I am one who would say they overachieved. Maybe w/ a healthy AW we would have won the MVC especailly since it does seem down some what this year. For whatever reason some of the better teams especially CU & ISU are seeming to have some difficulty winning although CU is probably playing as good right now as they have all year.
As for "next year" I will start to wonder about that more after we are done playing at the end of March. Unless we fall flat on our faces and embarras ourselves in StL we should be playing in another tournament.
As far as winning the league goes I want to see us win it all the time to but lets be realistic every coach is getting paid to also win it every year and only one team is going to get lucky enough (right now it is luck-just seen that w/ the last 2 games-would also be saying the same thing if BU had won both of them) to do that.

I want to see very good basketball every game, see improvement, and go to a tournament every year. Those are the 3 most important things for me. If we do that year in and year out we will be OK. I'm not talking mediocrity but I am say very good basketball every game, see improvement, and go to a tournament every year.

Am I saying the league championship isn't important? Not at all but I base a good season on the things I mentioned not on a championship. There are a lot of teams out there that win league chamionships that couldn't compete w/ us just as probably couldn't compete night in and night out w/ the best in the Big Ten or Big East.

Any BU fan who rests their laurels on "next year" does themselves and the program a disservice.

Talk about a disservice.....

When things are going good BU fans like you (the Jim Les haters) are no where to be found, then when things start going bad you show up and start your we're better than that crap.

Tornado is here good or bad.

That's because I'm moderating and participating in the positive talks at the message board that shall remain nameless and that supposedly doesn't have BU fans moderating (even though there's 4 BU fans and 2 ISU fans). And is all negative and out to get BU.

But I digress.

Two ISU fans moderating an all Bradley board?

Isn't that special.
