WE Injury

Out of Bounce

New member
First let me say I am hoping for the best for WE. He was playing so well all night and working on his best game of his career. Hang in there young man.
I sit in Sec 16 lower bowl and I have a almost straight view across the court were the injury happen. When it happen there was no players blocking my view of what happen. The pass came to him with his back at me and he turned to his left to make a quite move to the hoop and when he was ALMOST completely turned the knee just buckled and he went down. Just as I said there was NO-ONE between him and the hoop. It would of been a huge slam dunk that would of no brought the house down.
I want to point out one other thing I saw in the first half and I am not sure anyone else saw it. Same location just closer to the sideline and further away from the basket. Smith got a pass and WE was out there on him. Smith made a great move on WE and went around him to the hoop. On that move WE buckled and you could see he had some pain in the leg and ankle. He kept playing but there was a buckle and I am not sure if this lead to the later injury.
Dr. Phillips sits almost directly across from me and he went to look at Will in the locker room. Let me say this WE is in great hands with him. I know, because he patched this old mans knee up and I still am playing.
Hoping for the best. Also lets back off on DC, hes a good young man and lets all remember this is just a basketball game. We have far more things to worry about in this world. He needs our support just as all the players do.

I'm sure everyone remembers that move. In fact, unfortunately in hindsight, I turned to my son and said "he just broke Will's ankle with that move". I forgot all about that until you just mentioned it. The thing that worried me was the way Will was pounding the floor when he was laying there. It was hard to tell if it was from the pain or from the frustration of knowing how bad it was.

Worse case scenario, could Wil be granted a Medical Redshirt? He certainly has not played in 7 games.

Yes, he does qualify for a medical redshirt. He has only played in 5 games.

And this is likely what will happen.

...Which means we will probably have WE and AW for an extra year, which can be good. We could be really really deep in coming years. The only thing is, our only returning big guy will be AT, so he will need to see some time, then he and WE can lead the two big freshmen next year, and JW I guess.

The news is not good for Will.
But as has been posted in another thread, at least he has played in few enough games that he will qualify for a medical redshirt,

<sigh> Thought so. Especially the no pain later part. If it was a sprain it would have kept hurting, I think. Well, that's too bad for the young man. He was coming along great. Here's to a good rehab program and a return next season.

I guess we can look at the only good part of this, and that because Will did not redshirt last year, he still is entitled to a redshirt year, and does qualify. So we'll see what the official announcement is, but that what I expect to happen.

Thanks guys,for confirming.
At least something possitive.
Gees, we were really playing extremely well with Will in the game.Great Ball movement!

I guess this is the nail in the coffin for the oft-seen argument that Will Egolf should have redshirted last year!
Had he done that, then he could NOT have used a redshirt for this season should he be unable to return.

That's not really the case, I think, Tornado. Guys who take a freshman redshirt, get medical redshirts pretty often, if they have a season ender.

I was hoping for the best....but from where I sat it looked real bad! Time for others to step it up...it can happen!

I sit in section 16 as well. The thing I noticed was Sam M was sitting on the bench, he threw down his towel in anger and shook his head immediately. I think he knew it was not good.

Assuming the worse for Will hope and pray for him to have the strength to rehab and come back stronger. He knows he has the ability to contribute. Would it make sense to have Taylor Brown in Will's postion? Just from watching him compete in the few games so far it seems to me he has a real nose for the ball and shown this more than any freshman I have seen for a long time. We would be extremely small but quick to the ball.

TB might be able to rebound well in the 5, but I think any good post player could score a great many points on him just because of the height differential. It's certainly going to be interesting to see what the coach does.
