Welcome Max Gaspa

Nice...I knew our staff would draw on their excellent international resources and find the right guy...

btw- a source tells me that Georgi Gerganov is having surgery on his knee next week and will stay in Peoria
for rehab and for the 2026-27 Bradley academic year. We should get to see him at the events like Itoo Supper and games.

The FIBA U20 European Championships are playing now in Ljubljana, Slovenia

In three games, Max Gaspa's Spain U20 team is 3-0 in group play with wins over Belgium (81-58), Croatia (84-60) and
a win over Greece (81-67) that just ended.

In his 3 games, he is averaging 8.7 ppg, 2 apg 1 rpg in 18.6 min per game (5th most minutes) - LINK
(the team has very balanced scoring, two players are averaging 9 ppg and one is averaging 10.7 ppg)
Valparaiso's Bruno Alocen (LINK) is also on his team, averaging 7 ppg

Spain has won Group C and advances to the knockout rounds - The games continue through July 19
They next play Romania on Wednesday
Here is the schedule of their games - LINK

Perhaps he will be here in late July.

Thanks for digging up that info. Keep us posted on Max's games.
Btw, Bruno Alocen is on Indiana State
View attachment 529653
Alocen transferred from Indiana State to Valpo for the upcoming season. Indiana State turned basically their entire roster over after last season while retaining their coaching staff.

I remember noticing when they tweeted this last week, which I thought was interesting, never knowing there would be a BU connection in the end:

Max Gaspa and his Spain U20 team played Romania today in the first game of their U20 European Championship knockout round of 16

It was an early game over there and it's already completed with Spain winning 77-59
Spain blew out to a 53-32 halftime lead and coasted from there with everyone getting plenty ofplaying time and nobody playing more than 20 min

Max had just 4 pts, 2 reb and 1 asst but was hampered from the start with foul trouble.
(Max got 2 quick early fouls, then a 3rd shortly into the 2nd quarter. He then got his 4th foul just one minute into the 3rd quarter)

Bruno Alocen had 12 pts
So they advance to the "Elite Eight" and their next game is tomorrow with the time to be determined. They will face the winner of
the Germany/Latvia game that is being played right now with German ahead 26-19 in the early 2nd quarter- LINK
If they get past that stage, they will play a semi-final against either the Serbia/Italy winner or the Israel/Greece winner- LINK

*** UPDATE - Germany just beat Latvia 88-72, so Max's Spanish U20 squard will face Germany tomorrow. Time is still not set.

The games are all being streamed but are by subscription only. - LINK

One other interesting note- the French U20 team has Victor Wembanyama's younger 6-7 brother Oscar Wembanyama on it.
The Slovenian U20 squad has Murray State newcomer Mark Padjen who is averaging 13 ppg in his first 3 games
