Wessler Blog

He has good ideas.
I always come home from the games hoarse and with sore vocal cords, so I think I am doing reasonably well on my part.
But I do have numerous older, and even somewhat frail folks sitting near me, some of whom are quite close to needing a wheelchair to get in and out of the arena, and I can't really expect those folks to stand and holler, so I'd give 'em a pass.
All in all, the BU crowds are and have been way better than those at most MVC venues, and even most venues elsewhere.
It's not wrong to ask for even better, but it might be a bit unrealistic to expect what Duke has unless we give away 2000 of the best courtside seats to the students, something BU can't afford to do unless KW can find a way to get the kind of TV contract and revenue that Duke has.

I think Bradley has one of the most vocal crowds in college basketball; also with donations the way they are it is not possible to move huge donors out of their seats as they are a big reason the program has the money it needs to function; finally there are a large number of elderly people that go to the games and my biggest concern is not about them standing up but who is going to replace all these people in the near future when a lot of them are no longer able to attend; we need to start promoting BU basketball to the younger people in the community as they are the future fans.

I was in the Molinarmy back in the day. I must have missed these season tickets holders in the upper bowl that were making quite a ruckus.

It really is hard to get pumped up about a game in which you know is going to be filled with errors against an average team.

it's boogie time

You must have missed the game when the official gave me the famous "your number 1" hand signal. The Molinarmy was fun. I think most of the group had a great time. I also remember we got the attention of some of the visiting players, as we got under their skin at times. I know us blue hairs from the upper deck can't replace the students, but we can make a some what of a difference.

That article got me sooo pumped for tonight for some reason. I agree 100% with KW and said something along the same lines in the discussion he mentioned. Gotta start tonight, here's hoping there's a really rowdy crowd.

Nobody's complaining about the placement of the student section or the older crowd. Wessler's just making a point about the absolute lack of a student section during break. If something like the "Molinarmy Reserves" could've been done in the last decade, why can't it be like that now? Why can't they reserve even a few rows for students or a that section for some people who will undoubtedly make some noise?

I would agree, something has to be done with the student section during break. There are alot more students there than AD realizes. I for one am a towny, so I will always be around. Against VCU I had about 8 friends with me and we were where we always are, standing perpendicular to the visitors bench. However we only had 2 seats there that were officially ours. Of course some people come and sit down there, grumpy faced because they spent $12 and can't see because they refuse to stand up, and complain to the assistant athletic director, effectively removing the remnents of the student section to stand in a corner. However, I did gain the ability to hear my OWN voice echo throughout the arena when no body would open their mouths...very dissapointing.

For what it's worth, I have been to all of the home games (except VCU) and have sat in or right behind the student section. The problem with that is once again standing and people ********************ing. So, I just politely walk to the front row of the student section and stand in the aisle until someone makes me move (which hasn't happened yet). Realistically, if students want to be in the student section "area" they should show up early and be sure to ask the box office worker if there are any available seats down there. Usually, they will find you something close but if you dont ask you'll end up in section 19 row 29 with a nosebleed. I see the reasoning behind BU doing this (they want the area full, they need the $$$, and 85-90% of students aren't here) but it is just insane that there is NO student section. The first 5-10 rows closest to the opponent bench should be for students, period. I know many students who won't go to these "winter break" games because they know they cant get in the student section and don't want to sit up high. Hell, when they sell the student season tickets they could add the option of buying the tickets over break and then they would know approximately how many more they could sell to the general public in that section. I could go on and on.. the point is there are plenty of other options that could work, but not having a student section PERIOD is as lame as it gets. These games could be an opportunity to attract new student fans who are here and bored out of their minds because most of their friends are back home. Instead, they alienate all of us by not even putting us together or anywhere near the action.

One thing about our crowd I'd like to see changed, is to get rid of excessive long booing after a blown call. (Our PCC crowd always seems to boo much longer than I hear watching other venues) - Not that the Refs don't deserve it, but the point of you being at the game is to cheer on the Braves.

Booing the refs just takes the crowd out of the game flow. Remember, no matter how hard the Refs try they will never cut down any nets. Use your energy for what is truly important. Issue a quick Boo or yell "Bad Call", then immediately cheer on our Braves. Increase the positive noise! Booing the refs after a blown call really only helps the other team because the home crowd just took itself out of the game

Ha reading this reminds me of a game in the fieldhouse years ago. The ref at a time out stood at mid court facing the benchs and was booed continually, he turned to around and faced the theatre seats and they started booing. Booing a ref must be breed in us BU fans :)

Seems like a lot of students are ticked off right now. I think it's good to see because that means there's more of us then I thought who actually care! Come sit down in front tonight, we'll have a few seats and the more of us that are down there standing the harder it will be for the other fans to whine.

I more than blasted the Wessler liar column, but since then, Wessler's columns and blogs have been dead on accurate.

The banishing of vocal students at games while on break illustrates to me that certain BU administrators just dont get it. Bringing back a section such as the Molinarmy reserves would be a great idea. The tickets should be clearly designated to let people know up front about the section in which they want be seated. Lets hope the administration changes things for next year.

Have to disagree here especially after seeing some really poor officiating at games this year. --keep putting the heat on the zebras---;)

I just don't get it. I can't recall ever having been really mad at refs before this season, but have absolutely blown gasket like three times this year. Maybe four... tonight being one of them. Kudos to Drake for taking advantage, but I'm not sure that #5 touched the ball without taking so many steps he'd've been called for travelling while running a marathon.

Houston is a very good play and most of his moves were jump stops and not traveling...if the refs wanted they could have TW for a few more travels
