Wessler Praises Team, Coach, and Effort

I suspect KW, like all newspaper columnists, is used to criticism and people who don't like what he writes. Didn't he just do an entire column about his emails about the blackout?
In fact, he gets a free column out of just posting the silliest emails and ripping on their writers.

I've got two things to say after reading your posts and KW's article.

1.) In response to the question on why people can hate on KW but not JL - you need to read the fine print in the rules for posting section of this site. It clearly states that you cannot post "- Negative or unconstructive criticism of Bradley, the coaches, or any personnel or staff at Bradley."

Saying the guy should be canned is certainly not constructive. KW is not a coach or on staff at BU. Thats why. You can hate on JL all you want - just not here. The quicker you fellas get that through your thick skulls the better. I'm sick of all these I hate JL, JL should be fired, JL is the reason we're going to be playing on Thursday night threads. Let it go.

IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT HERE - GO SOMEWHERE ELSE and quit cluttering things up. You make it annoying to surf on my iphone.

Whew - I feel better, sorry to hulk out on you guys.

And #2...

2.) Wessler praised the team, coach, and efforts, but I think that some praise should go to the crowd last night. I know its easy to get on your feet when the team is doing well...but maybe just maybe we should show the team some love more often. Perhaps they'll respond accordingly more frequently.

The volume at Carver yesterday got WAY up.

Good job to all those that got up and yelled/clapped/stomped their team to victory yesterday.

Yes he did but maybe he should have taken a poll about the Black uniforms because everyone that I have talked to thought they looked great and I am sure the team thought it was a neat thing to do,it appears that he just wanted to write something negative because BU lost to ISU and he chose the wrong thing as who cares what his opinion is on Bradleys uniforms, maybe the next time they decide to buy new ones they should check with him first just to get his approval.,(then maybe not)

Simple question...WHY is it OK for some to be critical of KW but NOT of JL? ...

read the rules, I didn't write them...
and I have said many times, the negatives are fine as long as we can also talk about where they are coming from...

also
What I have always said is that KW for some reason continuously slams JL at every chance he has. ..
I think we can look to Kirk Wessler's own words for at least some of the answer...and I believe there is an anti-BU bias that formed well outside of basketball or the professional arena....a few years ago when the university was buying up property, he wrote several times about how he took it personally because some of the land belonged to his family (and they were apparently well compensated and satisfactorily compensated and sold willingly), and that his family had attended and/or worked for Bradley University for a couple generations...and they felt they deserved either different or better treatment.
I recall the columns quite well, and I see his point, but it was all quite sentimental while BU was pursuing a clearly business agenda, did everything quite fairly and legally, and notified everyone and anyone they were required to notify.
Don't get me wrong...he is entitled to feel however he wants, but he can't talk of his bias then later speak as if unbiased!
On top of that he was upset that he was never given a direct phone call letting him know precisely what BU's long range plan was, when of course BU hadn't given anyone else such a phone call..

they had, however, posted the entire long range plan in the lobby of the athletic offices for everyone to see, nearly a full year earlier....so most of what seemed to upset Mr. W appeared pretty insignificant to me and maybe just a downright misunderstanding or mistake....
Beyond that I think the PJS writers feel the need to continue the long tradition of Dick Lien and Phil Theobald, who chose by design to be very anti-Bradley...and covered BU basketball kinda like Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein covered Watergate.

I guess its ok to attack others but K.W. gets a free ride, you can"t have it both ways. ( by the way I read his articles and some are good and others I disagree with)

No, that is not what I said. I said questioning him on his job (articles) is fine. Personal attacks are not.

I question Jim Les about his job, not him on a personal level.

Jim is a great guy and a terrific person. That does not change my view of his coaching job.

Wessler should have started his article about the BU UNI game:

"Friends, Peorians, and All Bradley Fans, lend me your eyes!
I have come to praise BU & JL, not to bury them"

I do not like personal attacks. If you don't like the job he does, that's fine.

It wasn't a personal attack, it was a suggestion as to what KW should do as a journalist!;-) .....and yes, I do not like the job KW the "journalist" does with the PJS..... I have stated on this board numerous times that I think that KW would be a far better journalist if he would omit the sarcasm from his articles. Maybe one of these days KW will realize that he can make a far stronger point about coaching decisions, style of play etc and be a far more effective writer if he would simply lose the sarcasm. I doubt that it will happen. About a month ago, a friend at work approached me while he was reading a copy of the PJS. My friend is an ISU grad and started to read KW's comments to initiate the BU-ISU office rivalry. His next comment to me was: "man I'm glad KW doesn't write for ISU!" KW, through his articles, reminds me of the guy at a party who thinks he is the funniest and wittiest person in the room only to discover too late that he is neither while he is leaning up against the wall by himself!

There is one in your post. Come on. Name calling isn't called for.

If I knew you and you were my friend I would slap you upside the head and call you a doofus. It's nothin' personal my friend. Quite the contrary. I just expect more from someone of your obvious intelligence. :)

Whatever....FWIW,

I don't always like KW's columns. I talked to him about the black uni's on the PJStar board. I liked them alot.

However, I think he has been spot-on in a lot of his columns about BU as well

As I said before, he's a Mike Nadel wannabe.

K.W. has written a lot of good articles about BU , but when he attacks Bradley because of the black uniforms I thought it was just a personal attack against Les for doing something different, yes BU"s colors are listed red and white but we have used black as a 3rd trim color for years so it has been a part of the uniforms for a long time, everyone that I have spoken to including my daughter that saw the game on tv from St.Louis said the uniforms were really neat , just because we ended up losing the game should not have any effect on whether or not they wear them again in the future.

Much agreed! It seems like he takes advantage of every opportunity to personally attack Les. I remember Cellus' junior year Coach Les let the players choose the song for the starting lineups. Chosen was the instrumental of a 50 Cent song......Not the song......the instrumental because of the beat. OHHHHHH NOOOOOO, KW wasn't having that so he wrote an article about it the next day and how it was so ridiculous to him. The next home game, ol' 50 was gone. When you write articles that do nothing more than express your personal likes and dislikes and try to somehow influence what the program does as a result, it makes me want to puke!
