What is wrong with Sammy?

I am normally a big Sammy fan, but I don't know if I have ever seen a player of his caliber play such a horrible game. By the end of the game I was yelling at the screen for Les to take him out of the game and flinching every time he had the ball. Anyone have an explanation for what we just saw? Hopefully just a very off game.

After reflecting a bit more, it was really just down the stretch that he was that bad. I can understand an off shooting night, especially if his ankles are acting up. Just shocked to see so many sloppy passes in crunch time from a guy who went 170 straight minutes without a turnover last year.

Anyway, hope he's back to normal next game. We definitely need him playing well to win.

Sammy isn't healthy, and probably shouldn't be out there as much as he is because of his health. Unfortunately we're not as deep as some would have us believe, and will go as Sammy goes this year for better or for worse.

WE AGREE!!! :)

The schedule has had to take its toll on those ankles....here is hoping for some healing and rest

I think we agree more than you think coachdude! :D

Sammy is a warrior and you'll have to tie him down to keep him off the floor. But he just isn't himself, and it's a shame that he's going to be battling this his whole senior year.

Even Snell mentioned that this was the worst game of Sammy's career.

He did not score.....

He turned it over constantly......

He could not guard anyone.........

I never heard the CC crowd boo Sammy like tonight.

I hope this is a one-time thing.

I am as big of a Maniscalco fan as there is...but this was just a brutal, brutal performance...tough to watch.
I feel bad for him that he is going out this way...struggling to get healthy...surrounded by a roster of players that simply aren't nearly as good as we all thought/hoped they would be...

I think Sammy will come back.... I just sometimes question how hungry the team really is. I think they are all good athletes you just have to be hungry and go win

This. He shouldn't be playing period, this year, IMO, unless he is demanding it.

But, despite having bad ankles, he started slow in most games, but once he gets into the rhythm of the game he gets it going.

Tonight he simply didn't. It would be expecting too much from him to carry the team this year. And he passed into blue too much tonight.

I hate holiday games...especially holiday eve games.

He is a great player for a free throw shooting team, but when you ask him to play defense, and throw him out there for 35 minutes on bad ankles, what did people really expect? Defense has never been a strong point of his. He needs to realize that sometimes you give more to your team by sitting out if you can't perform due to injury than trying to it gut out on the court. Not every game can end in Disney underdog dramatic comeback fashion.

Exactly! Given that SM's ankles are bad coming into this season, the short turnaround in games has to affect those ankles!

On the surface I would tend to agree, but he seemed to play a bit better on shorter turnarounds last week, didn't he? Sadly, I think it's going to be hit-or-miss as far as his health all season.

I have a question.

Where are all of you getting daily updates on SM ankles? Where are you finding out that it is a fact his ankles were bothering him so bad during the EIU game that it is the cause of his terrible performance?

I am not finding these updates...how do we know his ankles didn't feel great the other night? JW

Just rumors from insiders. You won't find anything officially published. But his ankles aren't healthy and anyone could see that against EIU.
I think we will see some news regarding this soon.

What is concerning to me, is why SM was in the game. He clearly could not play well.

I think I'll trust all the multiple medical specialists locally and elsewhere that have cleared him to try to play. He needs to find out if he can play before it's too late this season.
