I would agree, but I was under the impression this is something that will abother him as long as he's playing basketball. Besides, we don't even have a scholarship available next year (as of right now).

I would agree, but I was under the impression this is something that will abother him as long as he's playing basketball. Besides, we don't even have a scholarship available next year (as of right now).
Thats the key IMO.....do the Doctors think a year off would fix things with the correct treatment. Its ALL about the diagnosis, and as far as I have heard, no one specifically knows what is wrong.
Last I heard the ankles were "stable" IOW no structural damage...so whats causing the pain and can they remedy it?

I will ask that posters refrain from posting specifics about Sam's (or any player's) personal medical information. Federal privacy laws protect such information, and I am not aware that any specific diagnosis or information about Sam's ankle problems have ever been released publically. So to speculate with such rumors as "no one specifically knows what is wrong", and "the ankles were "stable" IOW no structural damage" are not fair to Sam, and from what I have heard, are not even accurate.
Unless posters can verify the source for such information, rumors regarding Sam's medical issues will be limited to what is publically released.

I have been told there will be an announcement today that should end the speculation.
And on his radio show yesterday, JL said Willie is working with DSE to play point. So we know the plan is to play SM less at point.
It could mean any number of things. Any time a player is injured, the question of how many games is allowed for a redshirt is asked.

Personal Medical information...are you kidding? Who has access to that..I know I don't.
And you are correct....you must be "unaware" becuase what I said was EXACTLY what was released/reported to the PJ Star earlier in the year (I believe it came from his trainer) and its why I am repeating it in the discussion of the thread "whats wrong with Sammy" that has everyone speculating about his ankles.
YOU say what I reported "are (is) not even accurate"...so by disputing info that has been made public that his ankles are structurally sound aren't you in essence releasing inside information that YOU claim to have that say thats not true. I'm only repeating what was made public....your releasing confidential information that you somehow obtained that HASN'T been made public.
This board, including you, Tornado and just about every other poster has dissected, speculated, opined and given personel thoughts and experiences regarding player injuries since day one from Ruffins hernia to JC's shoulder and never once was anyone called out for those thoughts or opinions.
So while I don't expect anyone to say Sorry Dru it would be nice to retract the attack on me since its clear I have done nothing wrong.

are not factually correct. He has seen multiple specialists and they do know what the problems are. He does have degenerative changes in the ankles (bone spurs). And now his current problem is being described as a bone bruise, so obviously someone does know what is wrong.

Wrong...my information was indeed factually correct becuase it was the last information that I had known to be publically released.
Thats why I stated "the last I heard"....read my post. I made it clear that IF this was the latest info that could be why he would redshirt.
Never heard ONE peep from anyone with this latest information. Did you recieve the OK to go public with it ? If so great but I know I got ripped for simply repeating what had been allready been reported.
What, medically speaking, is a bone bruise? I suspect it is more complex than it sounds. Would it be related to the previous surgery? Is it the result of a new injury?

THANK YOU for making MY point. I to take strong objection to being accused of speculating on someones injury when I CLEARLY did no such thing.
I took PUBLIC information and made an educated guess on just why SM might r/s. PERIOD.
And I never accused anyone of outright specualtion based on direct insider knowledge....my apologies if you took it that way.
My point was we ALL comment and draw cocnclusions based on public information. To be truthful many on here guess alot also and do harmles specualtion.
I know right after Dodie went down and even when Egolf went down the board was rampant with second guessers to what each guy had wrong.
Lets be clear and honest here also....these injuries aren't like us discusing cancer or psychological problems of a player. These guys suffer many of the same thing we weekend warriors have happen all the time so it inevitable we are going to use our life experiences to play "weekend doctors" during normal day to day discusions.
And there is no law against talking about what we think is wrong with any player. As you well know the problem is ACTUALLY having some direct insider knowledge and releasing that info without direct consent.

There is such a thing as a bone bruise, a contusion of bone that may or may not cause some micro-fractures but damages the living structure of the bone and results in pain, inflammation, swelling, edema, or the potential for worsening damage.

Disturbed....in a nutshell its basically an injury or insult to a specific part of the bone. An MRI will usually show a specific area that is abnormal compared to the rest of the bone.
A football player could take a helmet to the thigh so hard trauma to the bone can occur without a complete fx or break...but the area can be a series or bunch of micro fx's.
Take a hammer and strike a piece of steel pipe. That "mark" that is left would be a bone bruise if you will. The pipe didn't break but the area is damaged for sure.
Its really not as complex as it sounds but it can be very painful and aggravating.
I won't speculate on Sammy's as to how or why as I have NO idea.
