Just killing some time before signing day tomorrow....but this is also an important signing....more for the future recruitment of Braves players! Will he hire someone with previous experience recruiting or will they break-in :-o someone new?

IMO........it will be someone close to or with ties to the Braves....but maybe someone will want the post and blow us away? :-o  This is a proven head coach this time around and it will only help in getting LF's replacement!

Do ya think he could handle the weather? :-o Shorts around here in the winter are for tough customers!  Oh yeah I forgot.....it's 75 degrees here year round...at least al gore says so!

Remember that Yuba is in northern California, and in the foothills of the Sierra mountains. I've been there, and it is quite cold in the winters. It's colder here, but not always by much. I'm sure Coach Corn has a supply of warm clothes and winter coats.

Maybe Hersey might apply for the job?

I seem to recall his wife saying she didn't want to return to Peoria when HH was asked to be the next head coach bdfore the JL hire? Didn't I hear that? :-o I seem to remember that HH sounded like he would jump at the chance though! 8)

I no it would never happen but how cool would it be for JL's staff to be Versace, Hawk and CB.

With that said I'm not sure just where JL will go for a coach but with his connections it should be interesting.

If I were JL, I would take from an assortment of talented Chicago/Chicago suburb high school coaches. These coaches grew up with solid background on fundamentals and ball movement. Not to mention, this may present a great start for many of those high school coaches planning on moving into Div. I basketball programs.

I voted for a former pro coach. That doesn't necessarily mean the NBA. Jim has a wide network of friends in professional basketball, both in the NBA and CBA/NBDL ranks. I think Jim will probably get an assistant who's got a history of big man development to help get our bigs to the next level (which will take us to the next level in the process).

WOW.........we now have at least 1 vote for every option.....this could be very interesting to say the least....and the sooner the better with the recruiting end! :-o

Thanks Big Mike....Well, being the obsessed Bradley fan I am, I want whatever is best for my team. I believe Les will make a great decision, whatever it may be.

I went for the 'pro' connection - like what BBrave said. I think that is a good route to take.

As for Coach Corn, (as much as I think he would be a great support to the staff) IMO - I think it is best for Bradley if he stays at Yuba. He is providing a pipeline, and Bradley returns the favor with players looking for a JUCO (like XC).

Absolutely.
Rick Malnati is and has been a very good and successful head coach at New Trier HS, but I believe Jim will go after someone like Lennox, in the respect that he needs someone immediately who has lots of experience on the recruiting trail.

Did anyone note that Marty Simmons at Evansville just filled all his assistant slots...
http://gopurpleaces.com/article.asp?articleid=85095

and he hired Ben Wierzba, ex Lewis U. asst.
Rhet Wierzba also works at Evansville, but could possibly be lured from his lower position as Director of operations, and numerous fine D-II and D-III coaches are out there like Rick Herdes (Southern Indiana) and Mike Leaf....maybe they could be luired to work at D-II seeing as how more D-I assistants jump to head coaching spots than D-II guys.
And I also like the idea of Coach Doug Cornelius at Yuba.

That's kinda how I feel... though if Coach Corn is a good recruiter and skills coach then I'd just as soon have him on board.

Seems like most have choosen the college asst with recruiting experience......my guess would be someone should be named soon? :? With the signing period still running....does JL to name a replacement after that....IMO it should happen soon to keep the recruiting hot and establish the new asst with the current players as well as the incoming ...........what do you think? :?:

I'd like to see (and have a hunch we might) one of JL's former players. All of the great coaches and programs seem to groom their own to be coaches one day.

I'd like to see Tony Bennett

Anyone have any update on this or heard anything about the assistant slot? I would guess JL would like to find someone and get them in place soon on this, right? Do we think he might be tapping into his NBA contacts and is waiting for the season to end?

You've got JL for Chicago.

The Bueschers for Peoria.

I really think an East Coast guy will give BU the best recruiting edge in the Valley.

I'd go for either Luke Dobrich or Phil Martelli, Jr., both assistants under Joe Mihalich from Niagara.

Dobrich is from DePue and was a solid 3 pt threat for the Purple Eagles. He would bring extensive East Coast ties (especially NYC), and will be able to help sell BU to small town players like Fay and Roth.
