When will Assistant be Announced?

Have you also heard the "win this year" motto? If so why would anyone give him complete autonomy when selecting an assistant? Doesnt make sense but it would not surprise me either.

JL you need to win significantly this year and we want you to make some changes on the staff. Ok, if I need to win and make changes let me decide who I go down fighting with... I can see that. Not sure Id give him that leash but I can see it.

Does he try to talk CB out of retirement?

I have heard that also, but that's just rumor. I'll leave it at that since there are rules on this board against getting into too much detail about such things and I think we've got a good discussion going.

Just speculating here, but I think the thought process is that if you're going to give someone some type of 'ultimatum', shouldn't you also give them every opportunity do it their way? It makes the conversation a lot easier if things don't work.

I am fairly confident though that CB isn't coming out of retirement. That is a 99.99% certainty.

I think you are likely correct. I just sincerely hope JL makes the right decision(s). Do you think the title that Bish has could/will affect who is hired. Meaning he has a bigger title then me?

Regardless, I do not like the idea of Brown, Willie Scott, Shaun Livingston etc. But who has a relationship with JL? Who was the guy who gave JL the heads up on Egolf?

What is important to JL, recruiting bigs? Working with Bigs? Game statagies? Practice preparation, someone to communicate with on all the above? Does the assistant have to have BU ties or simply ties to JL?

I would be surprise to see anyone not somehow in life associated with JL being brought in. Versace is the obvious choice because of relationships and that he lives in the Peoria area.

Does anyone recall the name of the Utah coach who was from EP... Ray Giatto (sp)?

Rick Malnati's name was brought up the last time we talked about this.

I thought he'd be a decent candidate with his Chicago and BU ties. However, I thought someone mentioned he had a problem with Peoria or something. I'd personally place him above Kevin Brown and Eddie Mathews if we're taking a guy from the HS ranks; however I think/hope we're looking to the college ranks first for a guy.

I brought up that he had a problem with Peoria. I seem to remember him coming down here to play a Peoria school and leaving with some anger. Maybe it was just that game, but it seemed pretty negative. I can't remember the specifics.

Ray Giacoletti. He is a top assistant for Gonzaga right now, and formerly the head coach at Eastern Washington and Utah. He isn't coming here for anything other than the head coaching job.

Didnt know where he currently was and a little lazy today to look him up, thanks for the info.

Whats anyone feels on Donald Reese?

I am sure Shaun Livingston will show up....if we offer him over 960 K a year :D

I am down for any coach that tries to teach our bigs to play with their back to the basket.

I can't see WE and/or AT playing that style. I think the problem is not getting true "bigs", resulting in playing "4's" at the "5" spot.

I am impressed with David Booth's coaching.
However, he has no connections to Chicago, and would add little to the staff. IMO, there is no chance that if Bradley adds anyone to their staff that it would be a local high school coach.

Ding ding ding ding! I think we have a winner! This would be my guess with a little DV mixed in.

He said David Booth, not Derrick, who is the Manual coach...

And yes, David has major connections in the Chicago area.

I would disagree. Where did these "major" connections come from?
If he had any significant connections in Chicago, then why isn't DePaul getting any players from Chicago? It's been years since they have landed anyone from Chicago, and they aren't even mentioned with any Chicago players this year, either.

David Booth has no connection to Bradley either. He has spent most of the past 10 years playing in Europe and scouting for the NBA Memphis Grizzlies in the Southeastern part of the US.
He has never coached or recruited until being named to the DePaul staff last summer, so whatever connections he might have in Chicago would be minimal and probably of little value for recruiting to Bradley.
If Bradley feels they need someone with Chicago prep connections, there are hundreds of better candidates.
IMO, there is no chance that David Booth would be considered for a position at Bradley, and probably just as little chance that he would consider it if it was offered.

I am not going to name names, but just think of people who are in the coaching profession that do have some past connections to Bradley or Jim Les (or Dick Versace).

While I don't think that David Booth would be coming to BU, I do think that he could bring some of the skill coaching we may be missing.

I agree that a new assistant will be someone who had definite ties to Chicago, experience coaching, and someone that is familiar with BU and JL.
