I mind the NIU game because I feel like we're not getting enough reasonable home games. I've seen worse - I'm guessing this is Les' annual "Chicago-area" game or whatever we do to make sure we have a game up there every year.

It's OK as long as it's made up for elsewhere.

now you are sounding like you'd better look for the boogie man under your bed....
you really that paranoid and think big brother is changing your posts and reading your e mails?

I'm just saying that I think some sense that playing a 300+ RPI team will hurt us, I don't think so with the other games we've got scheduled.

Completely wrong.

It's all about the RPI. The power numbers. Playing a 300+ school is bad, period, for the RPI, no matter the result of the game. It is worth many, many RPI spots, and the SoS gets wrecked. You'd have to play 3 or so top 15 RPI teams to offset it.

In fact, playing no one over 200 is prefereable. This is actually a case where it's better to play them on the road - get the bonus for the road win.

Again, I don't squawk at playing NIU as long as it's made up for in other areas of the sked.

not sure what you mean, but of course someone has to moderate...but for about 6 months, it hasn't been me...
anyway, someone has to do it, and the success and growth of BradleyFans, while similar sites, especially the competing local such sites have dried up and blown away suggests something is being done right on BradleyFans...
even huge corporate backed competing sites go weeks without anything posted...
here is but one example, but I can supply at least two more examples if you want to PM me, I just don't want to post their links as it would actually double their hit count that they use to sell the pop up ads you get hit with all the time...

(this one hasn't had a single post in 2.5 months, and nothing useful in a year)

what is your security filter doing?
I have never heard anyone say their security system gave them trouble before...but some people have their systems set to filter talk sites, chat rooms, and the like...so maybe it's the settings you have...
maybe Da Coach can answer that...

security systems can be set to do whatever....
at one place I work, you can't get ESPN, and it's set that way because people spend too much time checking fantasy sites, and rarely on my own system a page is filtered because of a single word that's detected that triggers a preset parental control

I know of no reason why anyone's "internet security filter" would "keep popping up 2-3 times a day" when they're on this site. This is the first I have ever heard of this, and we've had this site running for 4 1/2 years.
We do not have ads, popups, or anything that other sites have. The only thing this site does is plant a cookie (virtually every internet site does this) to recognize you when you return so the board can designate which posts you've already read and which are new to you.

And, of course, mods can edit and delete posts, that is what moderating is all about. It's the main reason this site is so popular, because we don't allow objectionable, or vulgar material, and we don't allow discussions to turn into personal attacks or degenerate into back-and-forth bickering like most other bulletin boards do, and which no one wants to read.
But nothing had been edited or deleted in this thread, and you aren't being picked on.

This is the last we will allow of this discussion about the moderating. I think the mod team does a fantastic job, considering they volunteer their time and resources.
As always, this site is privately owned and paid for and run by individuals who are 100% volunteer. The rules are clearly posted, and the moderating is entirely up to the discretion of the moderators. There is no free-speech issue, as this is a privately owned site and everyone here is a guest. We ask that if anyone has a problem, PM a mod and do not post complaints on the board.
Any one who does not like the way this site is run is free to leave, visit other sites, or start their own.

There are viruses popping up that target these cookies, I believe. I've seen it at other message boards - it makes the message board look like the culprit when a virus within your own computer is the real one. FYI.

I get it every once in awhile, even when I browse here, but clearing out them cookies solves any problem.

Playing a top 15 team.

Playing a top 15 team.

Games against 200+ RPI teams are not good. We would have everything to lose & nothing to gain. Games against top 15 teams raise our stature, help us in recruiting, and allow us to measure ourselves against very good competition. Our players are really "UP" for such games and so are our fans.

I'm sorry if I've gone a little bit overboard in this thread. But I still like the NIU game. I don't know why the poster who started this thread was not spending his day at Fisherman's Wharf or up on Nob Hill eating at a great restaurant rather than picking on NIU:)

He is just not going to be happy unless BU schedules an away game at Univeristy of San Francisco every year!! ;)

Agree that winning the MVC is the goal. So my question is...which game would better prepare us? I coach and try to schedule very tough teams...playing cupcakes isnt going to get us where we want to go, IMO!

Thanks for the info. This is news to me.
If anyone has this problem, try clearing out your stored cookies.
If you use Internet Explorer, and most other browsers, it can be done easily by clicking the Tools menu across the top, then click Internet Options, then click Delete Cookies. This will require signing back into this site, and every other site that requires signing-in, but it's not a bad idea to do this occasionally.

If that doesn't work, try running an anti-adware program like Spybot.
I have also been told that some implanted adware programs can selectively place popups on your screen when a new browser windows open up.

Generally, the one-out against the ranked team is the better bet.

But what we've done is offset playing a top team (such as Florida and Michigan State) and countered those games with 1, sometimes 2, terrible teams at home. And that doesn't do you any good either.

That said, conditionally, the first scenario listed is acceptable if you are building towards an NCAA bid in year two of the scenario, and so is the team you are playing. . .which is what this is. . .Also acceptable if it is a road game on the way to another bigger road game. During the 1982 NIT season, BU played @ St. Francis (PA) on the same swing they played St. Joseph's, for instance.

I'm not particularly thrilled with it, but at this point, I think it is an intriguing series.

I've said it before, that this year, BU should be scheduling for an NCAA worthy resume. And sadly, I'm not convinced they are. Don't get my wrong, though--this still has the possibility to be one of (if not THE) best schedule we've had under JL.

Exactly. . .NIU is a program I'm on the watch for the next two years, so even though it seems a bit underwhelming now, I think this will be a quality team for next year (may be the MAC NCAA rep), even though they might lose their best all-around player.

And you are right. . .playing UCLA or Duke don't matter when you're playing Wright St, SEMO, and SIUE to fill it out. . .which is what BU has tended to do to offset playing Florida and Michigan State.

I'd take the top-15 team on the road anyday. If Bradley wants to be one of the few mid-majors that gets taken seriously when the NCAA tournament bids get handed out, they need to show a good degree of strength on their pre-season schedule like the Butlers, Gonzagas and Memphis' of the world do. In recent years, there has been numerous talk about how the Creightons, Missouri States and Illinois States of the world get the shaft year-in and year-out. The reason they get the shaft year-in and year-out is too many 200+ pri teams on their schedule and the NCAA doesn't take Missouri Valley accomplishments seriously. As it is...the best performing team one weekend in March gets the only guarantee. If we want to be considered for an at-large, we need to get as many good teams on that pre-season schedule as we can.

How many votes do the moderators get here? I only get one vote. I expect the vote to be 100 to 6 by the time it's over, kind of reminds me of a different country. How do you spell Politbyuro;) What do you have against playing NIU when any year we could schedule a top 15 team. After looking at this I might start hoping that NIU beats us. Go NIU!!

NIU unlike the Politbyuro;) I can see who voted for what on this one. I'm not sure if everyone else can. Let me know, all I have to do is click on the number of votes and it displays the name. I do not see any duplications and it all looks good to me! I'm a stron believer in the democratic process unlike the Iranian clergy.

In terms of money, I do not see NIU as a money making venture. I'd suspect we mad a heck of a lot more against Mich St.

That's interesting, my bad, thanks for pointing that out. But I still have some questions about what goes on with the deleting and editing, maybe I am a little paranoid about what gets read online but that does not make me any less of a BradleyFan and I still like the NIU game.

Both Fisherman's Wharf or up on Nob Hill area are very touristy and I would not waste a good evening in neither hood! LOL Sorry for kinda picking this fight because I have nothing against NIU and would not mind playing them except their rpi should really be labeled RIP. This should be a game where they play in Peoria or a 2 for 1. This is just the way things are. Until we start acting like a top team we'll continue to remain in the eyes of the public at large as average. If NIU had a rpi of even 150 I would have little to say. We should win this one with ease and it will also hurt our rpi. I say go to a school like U of Md. that has a great atmosphere, make some money and take a chance. I like the way that the old coach at Temple use to schedule (Coach Chaney). He would play anyone anywhere. There were times his school would win only 18 games and somehow they always made the dance and competed. There are also alumnus in other parts of the country that rarely get to see them play. I wish they played Cal or Stanford.

SFP, you elitist:lol: I should have known that those were just touristy things to do. Again regarding NIU, what's the big deal. We could have scheduled 10 games against top 15 teams if we could or have wanted to. I just don't see why a Federal case is made out of just one game. And I happen to like NIU.

San Francisco Restaurants

San Francisco Restaurants

SFP- While I don't disagree with you regarding most of Fishermans Wharf, you are clearly missing the boat on what may be one of the finest restaurants in the world that is near the Wharf. SCOMA'S is absolutely outstanding. It's located on a Pier just off the Wharf and is somewhat hidden. I have traveled the world and lived for a time in the Bay Area and in my opinion, SCOMA's seafood is head& shoulders above anywhere else I have been to for seafood including Portugal, Italy, New Orleans, NYC, New England, Carolina low country, So America, or the Far East. If you live in SF, stop what you are doing tonight and run---don't walk---RUN to Scomas! Also, regarding Nob Hill, you should try the Sunday Buffet at the Top of The Mark (Mark Hopkins Hotel)---very pricy but a fantastic buffet with an outstanding view of SF.

Speaking of the Chicago area game, does anyone know if we have tried to schedule Northwestern? Last year they scheduled Brown and Butler...
