White Sox acquire Ken Griffey, Jr.

Griffey has approved the trade, and will join the White Sox--
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8398348/Griffey-accepts-trade-to-White-Sox

It is reported that the White sox gave up only 2 players who played litle part in their future plans, 25 year old 2b Danny Richar who is hitting just .262 at Triple A Charlotte and 26 year old pitcher Nick Masset who has a 4.63 ERA with the White Sox. Richar no longer looked to be in the White Sox future with the emergence of Alexi Ramirez. This appears to be a one-sided trade to me!

The trade has not yet been finalized by comissioner Bud Selig. So Griffey can't head to Minneapolis until it is.

Sox GM Kenny Williams is trying to swing one more deal for another starting pitcher/long reliever. The rumor is that they are trying to acquire lefty John Lannan from the Washington Nationals. He is just 23 years old and under contract for a long time to come.

This report hints at the possibility that the Sox would trade Josh Fields. However, currently Joe Crede is on the DL, so I don't see that Sox trading Fields.

I like Kenny Williams. He really works hard for this ball club.

I thought he lost his mind back in 2005 dealing my beloved Jose Valentin, Carlos Lee, and Magllio Ordonez. I forgave him later that year, turned out to be a good season.

Ken Griffey, Jr. got a 2-out, run-scoring single in the 6th inning to go to 2 for 3 for the night. He now has both RBI in the game as the White Sox lead 2-0 over the Royals.
