Who is odd man out when Warren is back?

To change the conversation up a little, who is the odd man out when... or if Warren gets back? Right now it seems we have 7-8 very capable players to get us by besides center. I can't think of one player that I wouldn't want to see get some decent playing time. They all seem to be getting better and better each game.

That's an easy one -- Roberts.

BUT (and this is a very big but), I would start them all -- SM, CR, DD, AW, & TW. That's right, NO big man! We'd scrap and run every MVC team outta the gym. :)

In terms of playing time, it will come from several guys, mostly the 3 freshmen. AW will start back slowly, probably as a reserve, then increase playing time gradually.

Ya know, this is a heckuva question.....we've been talking about what AW will bring to the team when he comes back, but I think we all missed asking this question until now. Good one, Jason.
I guess conventional wisdom would say that he'd eat into the freshmen's minutes first.....but it might be a "who didn't practice well this week" deal, too.

This is a very good question. After some thought, my opinion is that AW will only play for 10-20 mins per game for the first several games. This is not an injury where you suddenly are "cured" and are back to normal. Off the bat, I bet he takes 2-3 mins/game from CR and DD, and an additional 2-3 mins/game from DN, but I don't think we will even notice this decrease because it is so minimal.

I do not believe that TW, SS, TB, or SM, will take a hit because Warren does not fill the need in the positions they are playing. Once he is back to 25-30 mins/game, I think DN will take the most noticable hit...he has averaged 16.7 mins/game since he cracked the rotation 3 games ago. I bet he goes to 7-8 mins/game because AW will fill the perimeter shooting need that DN currently fills. EMc will also take a hit because I think instead of his 18 mins/game, we play SM at the 1 more and let DD handle the ball more often. DD is a better defensive player so keeping him on the floor is important. CR would be next just due to position conflict...not due to lack of performance.

Between DN, EMc, and CR, I think we find 25-30 minutes for AW...but we may be talking quite a bit later into the season. Again, just an uninformed opinion, take it for what it is worth.

I think after AW comes back and gets his conditioning the rotation should be something like this--

1 - SM (30), DD (10)
2 - AW (20), DD (20)
3 - CR (30), AW (10)
4 - TW (30), TB (10)
5 - SS/DC/AT (Whatever works)

With EM, DN getting minutes situationally in blowouts (either way) or to spell players in foul trouble, with injuries, or just having a rough game. This gets you 30 minutes for each of what look to me to be our best players right now, Egolf's injury notwithstanding, and a center by committee. The freshmen are playing pretty well right now, but it seems like our player rotation during the conference season is usually about 8 players.

I dont see any reason to limit the minutes of Roberts, he is to valuable to reduce his minutes significantly. Warren coming back would not effect SM or Wilson. I would verture to guess that the minutes of McCain and Norris will become less as will the minutes for Brown.

But realistically I dont see a return of Warren really effecting anyone to terribly. Now if Wilkins arrives and can play and is who he has been advertised to be then minutes will be effected and probably for several players.

AT is the one I want to see play and see if his game is deserving of effecting others minutes.

If AW makes EM more effective, then AW may allow SM to rest more. Although in a situation like last Saturday's game, the staff may want to rest AW and SM, but at least one would be needed to get the W.

I do agree that AW may not affect total minutes by much. When you add up total minutes available, AW might only be taking 2-3 minutes from guys.

After listening to the coach's show today, it sounded like JL is interested in giving AT more minutes, as he has been effectively moved from 4th to 3rd on the bigs depth chart.

Honestly, with the way our guards are playing right now, Andrew will have to work his way back into the rotation...

I expect him to play some minutes once he gets back, but to expect him to start is a stretch w/ how good Dodie and Chris are playing...you can't afford to sit either.

What?? If AW comes back as AW or conditions his way back into AW he is going to play over CR easy...CR is valuable but AW is our most experienced and talented shooter...no way does CR at his best out play AW at his

bottom line...AW's better is better than CR's better

A healthy AW is the most talented Brave we have with NBA potential. CR is playing great, but can you imagine bringing him off the bench with TB! We really have a nice rotation with the 2-3 position and will be a lot sweeter once AW returns.

We don't have a player on our roster with NBA potential.

It is going to take AW a while to get back into things....I so not see him getting big minutes for a long time...and thats when he does come back!
