We have no bench to rest players if we perssed a lot.
The thing with pressing is that you put in fresh guys like AT and MK to do their part. You teach them how to run the floor and space it out. It's more about getting easy baskets, get the other team out there speeding things up and the team with best athletes and in shape have a chance of coming up on top. Since we do not play great interior D or rebound well let's eliminate that need as much as possible. It is also a ton of fun to watch. How many of you love to watch Missouri play or Arkansas when they played 40 minutes of madness? I know I do!![]()
I remember Tulsa from the old days when they were coached by Nolan Richardson and had Paul Pressey with his 7'+ wingspan. Then Richardson went to Arkansas and did the same thing. Even Pitino did it for awhile. Those teams had some athletes and were in incredible shape. They just wore teams down mentally and physically and broke their spirit. I wish we did that!
Talking about Pitino he talks frequently how a team with a ton of heart without a ton of talent willing to press and sacrifice for 40 minutes can beat anyone. It takes heart! I've always been told you either have or you do not and it's something really hard for a coach to instill. That is why you see coaches heading to practices more and more for recruiting because the kids with heart play just as hard in practice as in games.
