Wichita Adds another Top Opponent/Syracuse

I would love to see BU pick up an occasional game like this, against a Top 20 opponent even if on the road.

I can't agree with this. Do you really think WSU has a good chance in the Dome with the Big East officials?

Of course not, but maybe their contract allows for an MVC ref or two.
Any way. neither would they have any better "chance" at Towson State, Southern Mississippi, and anywhere else.
At least by playing Syracuse, Wichita accomplishes four really GOOD things.
-they fill their open date
-they will make huge revenue if 24,000 people show up
-they get noticed by lots of people, especially if they get on TV and they will get noticed by lots of
potential recruits who want to play in big time games like this
-their RPI goes up instead of what it might do should they have landed Arkansas-Pine Bluff
as an opponent instead of Syracuse.

Did Bradley have a chance back in the 1981-82 post-season playing Syracuse in the NIT in the Carrier Dome?

Did Bradley schedule that game?

WSU and CU would have been the last two teams that I would have taken a buy game.

Bradley played Syracuse in the Carrier Dome in 1982, and won easily, 95-81. It was the 2nd round of the NIT.

BU beat American U. in the Fieldhouse in the 1st round, then returned to the Fieldhouse and beat Tulane in the 3rd round in "the last game played in the Fieldhouse".
Bradley then went to NY and beat Oklahoma and Purdue easily to win the NIT.

I was there in NY for it. And it was sweet to beat OK and PU. Their fans were so arrogant, and condescending toward Bradley and our fans. There was no way us country folk from Peoria could play with the Big 8 and the Big 10!

Kind of similar to the experience last March in Auburn Hills.

I find a whole lot of trashing of Wichita State going on over at Valleytalk and a couple of the other schools' sites.
Mostly they are ripping into WSU for doing a one game/guarantee game with Syracuse.
The fans who seem to be doing most of the criticism are the Creighton and SIU fans.

This is interesting, as Creighton did a one game deal at DePaul last year (a guarantee game a few days after BU beat DePaul by 15 in Chicago-but CU lost by 15), and Missouri State did the exact same thing at Arkansas.
And SIU's idea of scheduling tough opponents was to play Monmouth and Alaska-Anchorage and get beat, dropping the Valley's RPI.

I am very surprised there is this much criticism, especially from schools that have hypocritically done the exact same thing.

Wichita has found it extremely difficult to complete their scheduling this season, as lots of teams just don't want to come and play on the Shockers' home floor.

Below is an interesting article about their scheduling woes, forcing them to settle for teams like Rockhurst, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Chicago State, and Kennesaw State on their HOME schedule.

But one interesting comment somewhat credits
BRADLEY for some of the difficulty they are having.

Seems they always have had difficulty getting the instate schools to play them (Kansas and K-State), but now that Kansas has had such an embarrassing loss at the hands of midmajor Bradley, they can least afford to also lose to WSU and perhaps lose ground in recruiting.
They are a bit optimistic that maybe Huggins and K-State will play them, as the predecessor, Jim Wooldridge stopped scheduling WSU in 2003, but they concede it isn't very likely.

i still think that is why illinois won't play us or siu or depaul or isu on an equal basis.afraid of getting beat.

An article in the Wichita Eagle reports the amount of cash that the Shockers are being paid for their guarantee game at Syracuse.

They are getting $80,000 plus 15 hotel rooms at the Wyndham Syracuse Hotel and round trip charter in a regional jet.
And they will have to pay out $45,000 to Chicago State for the guarantee game they bought from CSU.

gonna be a bad deal for syracuse all the way around when the shockers beat them.

When you live in the blinding voip of midmajor land, it's impossible to schedule sometimes. Getting Syracuse and Wyoming this late.....there's just no other choice. You have to take it.

You just pray that the RPI trend continues, so that these other schools realize that playing on the road in the MVC won't hurt their RPI win or lose (just their $$$$$ from not getting a home game).

looks like siu has beaten wyoming the past three years including twice at wyoming. now it is wichta state's turn to give the cowboys a valley beating.

I have listened to a few Wyo games over the internet. I like their announcers. One thing, though, that always cracked me up... they would often call themselves the CowPokes.

:-o
