Questions (which I am sure will be answered in time) and have been mentioned elsewhere -does the 5 game suspension hit him in JC rather than at Bradley ? If he does not play this year does he have 3 years available at BU ?
He will try to get his associate's degree in 1 1/2 years, plus summer sessions. He is a bright kid, and it can be done and has been done by many before. That way he will play 1 year at juco and have 3 years of eligibility at Bradley.
The NCAA 5-game penalty only applies to NCAA basketball. That is the only jurisdiction the NCAA has. their penalties do not apply to juco, but will still apply once Wilkins appears at the NCAA level, hopefully in 2010-2011.
The prep school option probably was not considered, because the problem the NCAA has with JWs background education would still apply, even if he went to prep school. He has already graduated high school, so he doesn't need prep school to get the HS degree like many kids. And the NCAA likely would still not clear him even after prep school.
This case is actually most similar to Xavier Crawford. He attended Mt. Zion prep school in North Carolina, and graduated from another certified prep school (Boys to Men). He also was said to have gotten a qualifying score on his ACT. But the NCAA still didn't clear him and after a summer at Bradley awaiting clearance from the NCAA, headed off to Yuba CC.
As we know, he said he remained committed to Bradley, though his recruiting was reopened, and he is now at Cal State Northridge.
