John Wilkins is scheduled to play in Flash's Spring Hoops Review on April 19th at the new Markin Center on the campus of BU. Guest speaker Chuck Buescher will present at the orientation at 11AM prior to the games which start at noon. Over 240 players are expected of which 75 to 100 are division 1 prospects. This is an opportunity for top players to be evaluated by a large number of college basketball coaches, plus a number of college scouting services and talent evaluators. Plus the AAU Chicago Wolves will bring 3 teams. Last year the Wolves were ranked as the number 5 AAU team in the nation, which Wilkins played on. Carl Maniscalco is an assistant for this team. This is the 26th event in the last 14 years. It presents many kids the opportunity for exposure to move to the next level and higher education. Many who have attended this review are now playing in the NBA. If you have time it might be something to check out, see John in action, show support to him and the camp and other prospetive atheletes

I will go conveniently work out at Markin during this event.

Also, is the timing of the event on purpose? It's the first Saturday during the Spring signing period I believe. Is there a chance that BU is looking at any of the players attending for a late pick-up??? I'm not sure if the event is made for HS seniors, but since John is playing I guess it's a possibility.

Thanks for the info!

Flash's Alums

Flash's Alums

This is the first year the event is being held at Bradley. Last year it was at Illinois Weslyen. Some participants will be non Senior levels. Past Flash Alums are Shaun Livingston, Eddy Curry, Darius Miles, A J Guyton, Quentin Richardson, Luther Head, Dwayne Wade, Dee Brown, Sean Dockery, Marcellus Somerville, Derick Rose, and many Division 1 players

I'm thrilled to see this event held at the Markin Center. I was fortunate enough to have a weekend pass during the alumni weekend last month and my wife and several friends spent the better part of a Sunday morning there. It is a fantastic facility and will give Bradley a "wow" factor for any recruit who hasn't been to campus before.

Just a reminder- the Flash Flanagan review event will be this coming Sunday at the Markin Center on Bradley's campus, starting at 12 noon.

As noted- John Wilkins is slated to be playing alomg with several other local players who Bradley is interested in- Bobo Drummond of Central, Max Bielfelt of Notre Dame, Tyler Les of PND, Chasson Randle of Rock Island, Rayvonte Rice of Champaign Centennial HS and many others.
Each player at the event will play 4 games, and teams will change players.

bravetime....are you sure??

Flash held his Reviews at the old Fieldhouse in previous years...before moving over to Shirk a couple years ago..

Here is a story from April of 2004 about his review at Bradley's Robertson Memorial Fieldhouse.

this 2004 event had UNC's Bobby Frasor, Jerel McNeal, Bryan Mullins, Sherron Collins, Brandon Holtz, Sead Odzic, and others.

Does PND really have two mid-major DI players on its roster? That would be surprising. Other than Brian Randle how many DI players have come from PND?

I would expect big things from them next year if the roster has that good of players.

did you not notice that as the season went on, the young players at PND improved a ton.
By season's end they were possibly one of the best two teams in the area...

Tornado, there is a reason for that and I'm sure you know why. His initials are Eddie Mathews. What a great job he does with his young guys. N.D. is very luckey to have him. He is truly a chip off the old block. His father was also an outstanding coach back in the 60's and 70's .

I have never been to a PND basketball game. Thats why I asked the question of people who watch these games.

nope, he was from Brimfield, his dad was his coach

Ah, yes, I remember that now. I was thinking he went to Bergan and was making a poor attempt to stir the pot. When I was a young lad, his dad and Squeaky were my two b.b. heroes.

Eddie seems to be a fun guy to play for....expects alot...but shows he cares...a great combination...they improved a ton through the year and next season could be very special for PND....they will be solid through 8-10 players...lots of guards and shooters and big Max and some others with size as well....

Maybe more than 2. I am sure there have been other players from PND beside Brian Randle, and Brian Lavin. Especially if you go back to the days of Spalding & Bergan HSs.

If you want to go WAY back at Spalding, there was the aforementioned Don Mathews (BU 1951-54). Alvin O'Neal (late '60s) I think, played at Murray State. Ken Wolbeck (70's) I think also played D1 somewhere. Joe Voegele, a team mate of mine at SI, played at BU 1958-59.

Good memory TNel, the 1969 team (finished 2nd in State - single class) had Alvin O'Neal, whose antics his senior year cost him a few better scholarship offers, and the 1970 Spalding team (finsihed 4th) had Wolbeck and Brian Lavin's dad, Rich.
