Will Egolf vs NIU

The students did a good job --
and I heard no official word on WE but suspect he was late for a practice since he did not play in the 1st half but was a ton in the 2nd half and helped us win the game.
Sammy was big as always -- as were AW and JP at times..

Yeah.....I wish we had a coach that let players miss practices or just show up whenever.

No you cannot show up late but this has happened way too much since he took over the program and just maybe he is not tough enough from the start and players try and get away with things because of him, he is suppose to be their mentor and not their friend which I believe to be some of the problems.

I strongly believe it's more that JL holds his players to a high standard, and doesn't let small things slip by. That's not losing control that's having complete control. I missed a soccer practice freshman year of high school, and I sat out the first half of the next game. It was nothing on the coach it was me breaking the rules he set and paying the price. These players are young adults JL can't make the decisions for them.

What's the Greek percentage at Bradley?

I think around 40% It's not chapter only two greek houses regularly attend. Like FWO said everyone has tests and final projects and papers coming up. I think friday showed that if students have time they'll show, but during the week especially it's just hard to find time.

Tuesday is chapter night, and i think about 35% of the student population is Greek.

I wasnt at the game tonight because my fratnerity is in the middle of our I-week and therefore i wont be at the game tomorrow either, and i know for the first game we had at least 20+ guys there.

I think the mid week games are worse for students cause there is always other stuff going on, along with tests and projects and homework. But the weekend games also end up bad for students because some just wanna go drink and what not. I think the weekend games attract more students because many are interested in college basketball and can make time for the games.

No worries mon. ;) I'm not wanting to hold anyone's feet to the fire. I was just curious of the Greek makeup. Kinda amazes me as I coulda sworn it was a ton more Greek when I was there. Ahhhh - how times have changed.

I'm non-Greek, but what I do not seem to get is that the U of I, which is considered to have the largest Greek system in the world, has a lot of student turn-out for its football and basketball games. Maybe someone can enlighten me, but does the athletic department out at UIUC accommodate the Greek organizations there?

And yes it is the tail-end of the semester, but I have to wonder how many students in the hard sciences at the U of I (undergrad or grad) still try to make it to a game or camp out for season tix.

Granted they are Big Ten, but it seems to me that the Greek system here is structured where the social activities are limited to their house and whatever is on Greek Row.

Kinda goes back to the Bradley Bubble...

Excuses! Our house and a ton of other houses would be at every game regardless. Special chapter night once in a blue moon should be no big deal. If you want to find excuses you can always find them. I'm starting to shift to Chico's position on this one.

BTW let's not compare U of Ill with BU. Their student population should be able to support their teams and football is played during the weekend. I'm sure they have just as many lame students percentage wise as BU. :-o

I thought the same thing. Yes they have a huge Greek population but they also have a huge population in general, much easier to fill a student section. Another plus is that they usually play big time, big name opponents which gets their students excited. Sorry but for some people Texas A&M - Kingsville followed by NIU just aren't exciting enough to come out for.

So if you are late to work, and you have had the same boss for years and over those years others have been late to work, you and those others being late are the fault of the boss?

None of us have any idea what exactly happened but if Will Egolf was late and it was Will Egolf fault, then I applaude Jim Les for having the mentoring abilities to discipline Will Egolf for a decision Will Egolf made.

Sitting Will Egolf for one half very much handcuffed Jim Les and it penalized his entire team for a decision Will Egolf made. There are some coaches who would have let it slide and well what type of mentoring signal does that give, if a person makes a bad decision but there is not a consequence to the action?

This whole thing is on one person and that person is not Jim Les.

Well, they have 6 times as many students... Have a huge, on-campus, arena... It's a state school (which leads to a very different demographic)... Have more competitive sports... Are only a few years removed from one of the best season in basketball history... Am I really answering this question?

Personally I think one students fan base makes it a prioriety and the thing to do. The other makes it an inconvenience.

It wasn't a practice issue with WE.....minor deal but JL had a good reason to keep him on the bench in the first half.
